This is a great cautionary tale, and I’m so glad Megan was brave enough to tell her story. We often hear about on-line romance scammers AND are warned about them, so it’s becoming rarer for people to fall for them. However, people need to be warned about real life romance scammers because people fall for them a little easier than someone sending them an email calling them “my king” or “my queen”.
Pro-tip: Anyone who opens with I'm [lord/count/duke/earl/viscount/marquis] upon first meeting probably doesn't have a hereditary title. Also if your man has a hereditary title, his dad would be dead.
Almost all 20 year olds would be too trusting which is why this horrible man conned her. I hope the police finds him and throws him in prison for a long time.
Me and my mum were conned by a supposedly multi millionaire turns out he was stealing all his riches he went to prison but so did my mother as all the money he put into us they made us pay it back they took our homes. It’s been an awful 7 years. We will never take someone as face value again x
It’s the greed that gets them scammed. She would NEVER have looked at him twice if he’d told her he was a sanitation worker or barista. That’s why the scammers are almost always Nigerian princes, Lords, doctors, oil barons etc.
Really frightening. Catfish are one thing but for someone to go to those lengths. Hope he’s watching this right now feeling terrified over who’s going to recognise him
I think this happens because most people want to full in love and have a fairy tale like in movies but it doesn't happen in real life, when something sounds to good to be true, it usually is.
she was naive , but yes she is only 20 , & we have all trusted people we shouldn't have , the comment about her weight is not called for , I bet you aren't perfect .
Why didnt her parents question about who the guy was? Why did they allow the daughter to move in fast with the guy. At 20 my parents never would've allowed me to move in. At 20 i was in college and not looking for a boyfriend. My parents would have said things are moving too fast. My dad was also a very good judge of character. I talkedcto my parents about almost anything. Im not sure if she married him.i dont think so.
Not everyone has nice or savvy parents. Mine are the types to escape from. Left as soon as I could at 17, not seen them since 19. So my only source of advice was myself. I would have benefited from wiser older counsel but didn't have that. I had moved to the city from the country and didn't even know you had to pay to get on a bus, lol!, However, I was a good parent myself, & uncovered the reason my daughter's ex bf dropped her- he had been cheating for months and thought he had hidden it successfully from all their friends and colleagues. I tracked his social media for months before I uncovered it. He and the new gf thought they'd covered it well enough on social media - but not so, once we got sleuthing!
Actually not that rare. I've known Lords (not all neccessarily peers but still lords) who work in banks, accountancy, historical reenactment and one who made taxidermy.
What a lovely young woman. Well done for sharing. It’s so easy for people to be judgmental and critical, and question how she missed the red flags.
