    From my brief time in the service industry:
    Nobody really questioned the DoS Dog because they're not *allowed* to question. Not only does federal law prohibit all but two very vague questions, the stores themselves generally prohibit their employees from asking anything at all.

    • @jwadaow
      @jwadaow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      which questions?

  • @AureliusR
    @AureliusR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    Technical point: GPS satellites do NOT broadcast NMEA. That makes no sense at all. NMEA strings contain your lat/lon. How could a single satellite know that? No, GPS satellites just transmit timecodes. That's it. You listen to a bunch of them, look at the difference in time it takes to receive a particular timecode, use some geometry and bang. THEN the chip converts that into an NMEA string that is easily parsed by programming languages. Carry on.

      @AureliusR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also... "to spite that"? How does this guy have a job?

    • @AureliusR
      @AureliusR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      And again... soldering is EXTREMELY easy... it really, truly is. I can't imagine why people have so much trouble with it. Put the hot side on one side of the thing to solder. Push in solder from the other side. Remove both pieces. Done. It's so therapeutic and relaxing to just solder a bunch of components into a working circuit... I started out liking this talk and laughing along, then got more and more annoyed.

    • @billklatsch5058
      @billklatsch5058 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Annnd if u are a bit to long on the chip with the hot end on it... you have a grilled chip.
      Stuff is not for everyone - deal with it. He may also did a bit of exaggeration for the entertainment.
      The difficulty of soldering or the how GPS actually works was not the topic of the talk anyways.

    Late 2013, as a graduation project, I made a small GPS tracker that got coordinates and sent them through an SMS message formatted as a google maps link. If you had a smartphone you just had to touch the link and a google maps page would open and show you a map with one of those little pegs on it to show the location. The libraries were really obnoxious at the time, so I ended up coding the entire thing without any libraries. Decoding the NMEA string was the most awesome thing, because the arduino platform can't deal with real double precision, so I had to separate the integer and decimal part of the coordinates and then convert and format it. I got a 9/10 score because, although my project was the only one that worked properly (no libraries), the teachers knew i procrastinated to such a degree that i not only had the prototype ready before doing any documentation only 15 days before the presentation, I also procrastinated a little more so that I started making the research for the documentation 7 days before the presentation.

    the acoustikitty part is incorrect. they found that the cat's prey drive was so overwhelming that it would prefer to hunt birds than do actual spying, so they did brain surgery on it to make it not get hungry and then it STILL didn't work and then they took all the equipment out of the cat and gave it to someone to take care of it.

      This is why I am constantly infuriated with how technology and people interface. These people that dwvwlop how my smart phone works are exceptional at technical skill, my phone functions amazingly, until I begin to use it. Nowall of the features are suddenly retarded. My phone is stopping me from doing what I'm doing, thinking it can read my mind and trying to give me what it thinks I really want meanwhile I have to fight through what the phone thinks I want to reiterate my initial attempts to make something happen. Then my phone has the audacity to stop me from functioning by pop up boxes that ask questions like, "did you know that listening to the phone at high volume can be harmful to your hearing?" And I'm like motherfucker! The slave is acting up! It is asking me questions when I did not ask it to ask me a question! This is why people break there phones. It's like they can figure out how to make a rock make a phone call and look up the internet but they can't figure out how I, the common person , wants to use it. Just let me design the part where humans interact with the damn thing and we have one super smart phone. But no, you tech people have to remain morons when it comes to human relationships. I'm dying to be able to program apps like Waze, and Amazon music or essentially any app on any phone. I could rework that so nobody else would use any other app but the ones that I worked on. I understand how humans want to use the machines. It is plain as day for me and self evident and no one else has my vision. No else can see it but me!

      About the volume thing, I feel the same way, but they have to have the popup for legal reasons, so the user is informed, so they can't be sued for hearing damage, because they clearly stated that.

    how does "collecting every 30 sec last 4 hours" translate into "collecting every 10 min lasting 8 hours"?? it sounds to me like 8 hours is max duration and collecting every 60 seconds will probably give you 8 hours aswell. if that makes any sense.
