Happened to my Omni. The machanic removed it's thermostat valve without my permission saying that it would perform better. Ended up re-installing it due to low pickup and mileage. The purpose of thermostat valve is to maintain optimum engine temperature by controlling coolant flow. It is a very important part of engine cooling system. An internal combustion engine runs most efficiently at 98°c. This temperature is called 'optimum engine temperature'. You get the best performance and fuel efficiency at this temperature only. Engine efficiency deteroriates if it gets hotter or cooler than 98°c. The purpose of engine cooling system is not to 'cool' the engine as most people believe, it's purpose is to steadily maintain optimum temperature or 98°c. The logic of mechanics behind removing thermostat valve is that since ours is a hotter climate, deleting the thermostat valve will help the engine run 'cooler'. Now this is true, if you remove thermostat valve, the engine wil run cooler. But running 'cooler' means engine temperature will be significantly less than 98°c/optimum temperature. So engine efficiency will reduce, means less power and mileage. Now it all depends on who do you trust. The mechanics who 'repair' cars or the Engineers who 'designed' these cars? Every single part in a car has it's purpose. I suggest to only listen to Engineers instructions or the owners manual.
I really dont understand y do these ppl keep doing this.even in my previous 5 speed they did the same nd didn't even bother to tell me. Really appreciate the time you've taken to type this out here and ive pinned your comment It would really help people to understand whats going wrong when to take off the valve. The reason you have stated here about mechanics is the exact same stuff they have told me as well.lol Thank you bro 😍
This also happens to maruti 800... mechanic remoVed thermostat valve and throw away without my permission....now I am searching for new thermostat valve spare part but not available in any local Spare part shops.
