I came across your videos today and find them insightful and calming. Life takes us down many pathways, and you are willing to share with us your wisdom. I also live in Ontatio. I commend you for what you did to provide stability for your daughter, what a good. Mum!
Keeping it out of guilt! YES! Susan, you are an angel on Earth. This video is the equivalent to me of you cupping your hands to give me a foothold and boost me over a brick wall to freedom. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this comment; was a sweet thing to say! I am so very happy that some of my suggestions may help you. Press on, you can absolutely do this!
Thank you. My husband passed in 2019. I’ve been in a depressed, helpless, hopeless state of mind. I’ve felt guilt, shame, and anger. I did move into an apartment but it’s been a cluttered mess for years. I guess bc I just didn’t care. My health has gone down hill because I just didn’t care. Even though I have two adult kids and a grand baby. When you said visual what that would look like, a light bulb went off. I’m visualizing a clean, organized, decluttered house. I’m visualizing me no longer feeling broken but true inter peace. Im visualizing me being healthy. I’m visualizing not being a mean bitter person but kind and helpful. Your video has spoken to me and I will watch it many times. I’ve watched hundreds of videos, but please know, you have giving me the will and “permission “ that it’s ok to let go of everything negative around and inside me. Thank you, again. You’ve changed my life. XOXO🙏🏼
Dear Jamie; this is the sweetest message ever! I am so incredibly glad that I could help. This is the reason why I wanted to do this... there have been some unexpected negative comments, which has been difficult... but your message makes up for it all! I know that you can do this; something in you must be ready, or you wouldn't have clicked on it. So, start with the easy things, the things that you are certain are not adding anything to your life. Gain momentum and confidence in your decisions, and keep going! Not only do you have permission to let the negative go, you deserve to have inner peace and lightness of being. Please, keep me posted of how you are doing! Susan ox
Thank you for this. My husband and I recently helped my in laws move from a big single home into a seniors residence. The stuff that we had to get rid of was incredible and reenforced the fact that I have a lot of decluttering to do myself. It’s a long and slow process but I’m determined.
Thank you for your comment, Erica. Have you watched any shows on "Swedish Death Cleaning"? (There's a series on Prime Video...) It's very interesting, and exactly that... cleaning out our clutter before our children are burdened with it. Check out the series if you can; I think you may like it!
Thank you Susan. When I was selling my home and downsizing I had a huge bin in my driveway. I filled it to the top. 2,000 pounds of junk and countless trips to the goodwill or Value Village. Stuff I had accumulated over 25 years, such a waste of money. I practised retail therapy on a regular basis during the years after my divorce. I had 2 small children and always worked two or more jobs to keep up with house payments and kids needs. So there I stood as the bin drove away saying goodbye to all that stress shopping. Big lesson for me. Guess that's why I never had any extra money every month.... I gave most of the big furniture to the now adult kids and furnished both their homes. I moved from 2,000 sq ft to 840 and still had too much stuff. Purged again and now it's manageable. I think it's an ongoing process. Truly there are very few things I couldn't live without.
Thank you for sharing Cindy, I can definitely relate to your retail therapy comment. I too, have purchased many items that I barely even used. I'm sure your kids appreciated the help with the furniture, and it must feel good knowing it's being put to good use. And yes, decluttering, and life, is an ongoing process :)
I find your experience instructive. I've been in limbo after husband moved out of family home in 2022. Adult child still in university and other one lives at home. Hard economic times/cost of housing in southern Ontario make this an extremely difficult situation. Turning 60 and not enjoying dealing with lawn care, snow etc on my own and so looking forward to downsizing to something low maintenance in a few years once the adult child still in grad school is fully employed. Your statements about saying goodbye to how we thought things would be hits home. It helps knowing others are experiencing the grey divorce fall-out! Thanks
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. Wow; our experiences so very similar. The outside work is a challenge, for sure! And yes, as Moms, we make sure the kids are well situated before we feel we can make any future plans... I wish you very well in your future... and it looks like we may not get too much snow this winter :)
This is a great video! I love your wisdom so much! I know just by you making these videos you are helping someone out there! Keep up the great work your doing! I loved the home tour video!
Another great video! Enjoying your channel. The most difficult thing for me right now is photos, three generations worth, and hand made quilts that my mother made. Some of which are either not the right size for my bed or are not colours I like. I use some of them, infrequently, during the summer in order to protect them from washing too often, as some have fabric wear, and so they just sit in my closet. Often when I use them on my bed it makes me feel sad because I remember my wonderful mom, and how much she loved to make things. And it does make me sad at the same time, that I don’t feel when they are not “in my face” I have 6 quilts. Every time I think I could donate one I wonder if I would regret it, and who I would give it to, without them feeling burdened by it. I gave one to my daughter, who already had one of her own and now she wants to give it back. lol I’ve never heard a solution for this problem that I have been able to go through with. But that said I have a very small 70 year old home with no basement or linen closet so they do take up a lot of my small storage space. Appreciate any ideas you have.
Thank you again, Jay, for your kind comments. Have you ever considered making throw pillows out of the quilts, so that you still have (a piece of) the cherished quilts, but they're taking up a lot less real estate. Or, framing a piece of the quilt, and hanging it as a piece of wall art? Or, using a small piece of the quilt as a chair cover... I hope maybe one of these ideas helps! Oh, and photos... I do have the same problem! lol
Great advice. I will add 2 of my own that I use and follow. When decluttering/purging - follow this when in doubt, throw it out. AND, this I always remember hearing Gail Vaz- Oxlade telling people who had lots of debt - "Before you buy anything ask yourself - do I really need this/ is this going to enhance my life?" This one not only helps you from accumulating debt or wasting money, but stops items from coming into your home.
Thank you, very helpful & inspiring. I like the idea of making space for good things that (we hope) are coming our way! I will definitely keep in mind that our belongings are supposed to serve us, not we serve them. Good to know that you felt once you got started on the whole house declutter it did not take as long as you thought.
Hi Susan if just found your channel and subscribed I decluttered a lot last year and I’m waiting for weather conditions to warm up a little bit so I can do some more thank you for your video
Appreciated the content. In my 60’s now looking at retirement and all this stuff that fills our home. I especially will grab hold of your suggestion to keep my end goals in sight. Sometimes it’s a slog…

Thank you……..now I don’t feel so alone with this overwhelming task of downsizing and letting go!
Thank you for your comment Monika; it seems to help knowing we're not the only ones :)
You are not alone. A 46 year old woman in Pa that doesn’t know you is thinking about you and wishing you well.

Hi Susan if just found your channel and subscribed I decluttered a lot last year and I’m waiting for weather conditions to warm up a little bit so I can do some more thank you for your video
Thank you, Margaret. Yes, it's an on-going process for sure!
Have you had to declutter a home you've lived in for several years? Let me know how that process went for you.
Appreciated the content. In my 60’s now looking at retirement and all this stuff that fills our home. I especially will grab hold of your suggestion to keep my end goals in sight. Sometimes it’s a slog…
Thank you so very much! Yes, envision exactly how you would like your space to look and feel, and keep that front and center! You can do it!
Went to look at your videos but can’t see anything
Hi Margaret; that's strange; did you enter: positively60 in the youtube search bar?
@ hi I found your channel and videos I think it was 4 of them thank you for your message
I would love to see a hint of a smile.............maybe a little louder too.Your making me feel negative and sad.lol.
I’d rather see the truth than another fake channel putting on an act. Boring to see people pretending how great things are just to get views.
Thank you, RoseGrace! I appreciate your comment.
Thank you for your comment; I'll definitely work on the audio quality.
