I think it is always a great learning opportunity to see words with their items. Even if they can’t read yet it is building that recognition. So I vote make a label for the manipulative bins.

Love that your school still allows for imaginary play area (kitchen, toys, etc ..) !!! I feel like that is one thing that is still so crucial for the littles... Imagination seems to be pushed aside, sadly, in today's day and age. To me, play is just as important in healthy growth and development in school!
Great video ❤️❤️ Excited for you!

I teach preschool and would totally recommend labeling with a picture and word! In my experience kids at the beginning of the year love dumping all toys and manipulatives out and then they sometimes get put back in the wrong bin so it is a great learning opportunity to match the items and begin reading the words 😊

This!!! Words with pictures are great for learning to associate words with real life things. Also the pictures help Littles clean up correctly.

Labels with words AND pictures is great for beginning word/letter recognition, vocabulary, and identifying and classifying times! Love your classroom so far… beyond excited for you!

Why in the world are they requiring you to keep that rug? Maybe the janitorial staff can clean it or you can rent a steamer. Good luck!

For Kindergarten, you should label the containers with pictures and words. I taught PreK and Kindergarten for years, and that is what we were always taught.

Label everything, like everything you can or that the kiddos will have access to with pictures and words!! Environment print is so important for this age! I taught K-prep and I got a few kiddos in each class that could read or were beginning to learn how to read, so I’m thinking you’ll experience the same thing.

Hi - I've taught K and TK for over 28 years. I used to take photos of the contents of each bin (your large manips storage) and then put the photos on the front of each tub, covered with clear packing tape) That rug that you are required to keep in the room is yucky, especially with the old tape on it! The custodian should have a carpet steamer that will clean the rug. It's weird that the school doesn't supply cuter rugs - - I like the ones that already have designated areas for each kiddo to sit in. You could always try sit spots, though.

Kindergarten teacher here! 😊 I also have a tee pee/ tent and make sure you set super clear expectations with it! I used it as a reward since every student wanted to go in there. I definitely had students run in and out of it when they weren’t suppose to and it became quite a problem. Love your videos!!

Hey, I'd label those bins with very standard font words and a picture. The learning curve for Kinders is HUGE and over the first few months, they will learn those words, especially your ESL kiddos. It's how I learned Tagalog when I was a child in the Philippines! Fun to see this!!!

What I always do is label each toy bin with a picture and word under it that is simple for the students to read like a picture of Lego’s and the word Lego. I always make sure to have a matching label on the toy bin and on the shelf that way the students can match the labels and know where the item goes when they are cleaning up. Super important for students to see words around the room to understand how print works and to help with word recognition. Also important to label so students will know what toy goes in what bin. The other easy way to label that a coworker taught me is to take pictures of the inside of each bin of the toys and print them all on photo paper and literally just cut them in half and stick one half on the shelf and one half on the bin. I did that when I taught twos but I would add words for kindergarten.

I love that you are teaching kindergarten! Welcome to the chaos but loveable world of littles. Some food for thought: I get headaches easily when a camera moves rapidly or is unfocused or shakes. I found today's video hard to watch because of the movement. Still love your videos and all your hard work.

    Hi Madison,
    I love your video!
I’m Inge and a teacher in the Nederlands.
For 4.5 years a was a teacher in kindergarden.
Now I changed to second grade. So I think that will be the class in the American system.
When i setuo my classroom, my dad come to help also. It’s always a great day when my dad come to help me. My dad was also a teachter for over 40 years. When I was little I helped my dad with setting up his classroom. It’s great that he helps me now 😊
For de boxes… I would put now stickers on them. The can see trough the boxes what’s in it. I think stickers wel make it busy.
