    1:52 for anyone who doesn't have a nice friend nearby, I would get another piece of aluminum tubing and extend the existing intake by 2 7/8". Often that tubing comes in diameters and wall thicknesses such that they slide over / under then next size smaller / larger. I believe it's just referred to as telescoping. I get smaller tubing that way. I have bought larger square tubing that way as well. Alternatively, cut 2 7/8" out of the middle of the drive shaft and use a sleeve to connect and weld it back together although this might be a bit dodgy unless you have a decent lathe to make a nice tight sleeve. Love the project.

    Just found your build series. I bought a Jetstream Headwater 10 foot kit about four years ago and now nearing full retirement finally starting to build. I'm actually making it a challenge to myself to fabricate everything myself including intake, stomp grate, and steering mechanism. Donor is a Yamaha Waverunner VX110 which doesn't compare to modern supercharged skis, but I was told by Jetstream owner would be more than adequate for a 10 foot.
    I'm learning from your build experience and hiccups along the way.

    Bob, I have been waiting for this update and appreciate the time and energy you put towards this project. I am probably about 9 months behind you, but plan on building the same boat and all of your insight (and more importantly) mistakes are really appreciated. Keep up the great work!

    Jet Boat project is looking good! When you cut the hole it would of been nice to be able to cut it short and narrow then use some sort of home made brake to bend it back to give the center more strength, but it's working. If needed, you could weld/rivet/screw a support around it. Looking good and it's great to have helping friends. Keep up the great work.

    Im working on a build where the engine is bigger than it should be for the hull... going to extend the pump out the transom further and extend the ride plate, i dont have extra space in front of the bulkhead in a small 6 foot. Something you could do on your next build too if you dont want to come thru the bulkhead again

    Why didnt you remove the propeller, cut if of on that side, and remounted it? genuine question

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The impeller has a spline on it too and is very difficult to remove, even with the correct tools.

    is the whole hull made of 6mm thick sheet?

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, the bottom is 1/4" (6.35mm), the sides and transom are 1/8" (3.175mm), the stringers are 3/16" (4.7625mm)

      Yes the plastic and hardware came from Jetstream.

      @@MakingStuff Just wondering about all the holes in the bottom of the boat for mounting the UHMW plastic. Do the screws create a water tight seal or do you have to go back and seal every one from the inside?

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gizmobowen There are rubber backed washers and nylocks that go on the other side.

    Does it not worry you to put so many holes in a boat just for some plastic?

  • @007JakeD

    I keep looking at these… I think I’d skip the plastic and go get a bed liner sprayed on the bottom. Great work though.

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The plastic is slippery and allows the boat to glide over land, sand and rocks.

    ahh why are you using a friction blade to cut aluminium??!! use a carbide blade. how do you not know this? pretty embarassing if your trying to pose as some sort "how to channel" if you dont know simple stuff like this.

    • @ConradBrander
      @ConradBrander ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Little harsh don't you think??!?
      Using the exact perfect tool to cut something isn't really necessary. Whatever gets the job done.
