So sorry for the passing of your Mom Scott. It's never an easy time. I went through it with my Dad years ago and currently going through taking on the responsibilities for my elderly Mom and I appreciate all you've been through. I thoroughly enjoy the content you put up and the manner of your instruction. You are a true gentleman and incredible teacher. Keep the faith.
I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I never met her, but based on the work you've shown here on your channel I have at assume that she was well cared for, and it is clear that she has a lot to be proud about for helping raise you into the man you are.
I am an electrician, I have been in construction for 20 years, and although I have met very good people from whom I have learned a lot, I have never before met a person with the human quality that you have. I have learned a lot from your videos and I sincerely appreciate it. Now I am trying to start my own business and you have been an inspiration. Your logical and sequential manner, the honesty with which you talk about the process, denote your sincere desire to pass on your knowledge, thank you.
My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother. It’s difficult to reconcile the conflicting emotions of watching someone close succumb to a protracted and debilitating illness. You mourn the loss of a loved one, yet also feel the relief that they are no longer suffering. I can only assume that bearing the strain and responsibility of being the caregiver only multiplies the emotions. I offer prayers for peace of soul and peace of mind. God Bless
This book was a great resource for ideas, practical advice th-cam.com/users/postUgkx-b91_bYU48sOwHX-XC49tRRXRxcnOmZm and pro tips I purchased the plans for the 10'x16' colonial and used them for the basics and made my own modifications. I built my shed for storage and lawn equipment, but decided to sheath and side it in case I ever wanted to add insulation and turn it into a shop or bunkhouse. I poured over this book all winter while I planned and found it to be the all-around best shed book out there.
I suggested the garage post tension slab and house over crawlspace but didn't get a reply. Hope this comment can breathe life into that option. It provides all viewers insight and instruction. Maybe the cost will be slightly more. I haven't built or done inspections in five years so costs may in fact changed significantly.
Becoming the "Leader of the Pack" is a sad/glad moment as one mourns the passing of Mom & Dad. One day it will be our turn. Whatever we do in this life is picking up opportunity to pursue what makes us happy. You have done it with Nate's help in communicating earthy experience living your life. You reflect credit on yourself, your family past & present and on God's will for being a humble servant.
No matter how old we get, we are never quite ready for the loss of a parent. I'm so sorry for you loss. For what little comfort it is, know that your mom has every reason to be proud of you.
Scott, I'm deeply sorry to hear about your mother. She raised a sharp guy. Thank you for saying what I've felt for a long while (i'm only 30) about tradesman. I don't see many guys my age who can fix a darn thing!
I am sorry to hear you lost your mother and grandmother. In her short appearances on the channel she always made me smile. On one hand because she somehow reminded me of my grandmother who passed away way to long ago. On the other hand because it made me happy how she looked at you while she was visiting the building site - she had a hard time walking but carefully listened to every word you told her - man she must have been proud of her son! I am sure she is at a better place right now. A place without pain and sorrows. I will pray for her and the rest of your family!
Very sorry to hear about your mom. You and your team's tenacity and determination to your craft and this channel are truly amazing. As a long time fan, I think I speak for all of us devoted when I say that you need not make any excuses for the time between videos. Your quality is excellent and life and family is supremely important above all else. Good luck, keep in good faith, and we all appreciate the work and sweat you put in to everything we all see. Looking forward to everything next
Very sorry for the lose of your mom. No one understands the ins and outs of hospice unless you have gone through it. Praying for you and your family through this time. Thank you for being a craftsman that shares his talent on you tube, all while being an honorable man while doing it.
I too lost my mum recently, So I feel your pain...... I am a few weeks ahead of you in the grieving process and I can already feel the difference now that I’m not constantly worrying about mum and her pain from cancer. You will be making great things with the spec house and your TH-cam channel........ I’m sure she will be even more proud.
First, I'm truly sorry for your loss. I lost my father about a year ago and even with the time on hospice care and seeing the decline, you're never truly ready or prepared for a parent to pass. That said I hope faith and memories carry you through and wish you and your family the best as you learn a new normal. Second, I'm delighted to hear you are going with a crawl space (most likely). I'm an owner/builder and I was hoping to go through your videos on the spec house as I went because they're so good and so detailed, and always implement best practices, that it would have been a GREAT tool; that's why I know it will be a great tool for another owner/ builder or DIY craftsman doing their addition, shop, mother-in-law, and so on. Really looking forward to the project and thank you Nate for all the work you put in on this. It's valuable and as a photographer who has done videography and editing I know how truly time consuming and thankless it can often be behind the camera. Look forward to more and God bless.
Mr Wadsworth, please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. Thank you and Nate for your invaluable contributions and hard work into creating it.
Sorry to hear about your mother Scott, one of the most amazing selfless things I've witnessed with my own eyes was my mom taking care of my grandmother. It takes a special person
First off want to offer our deepest condolences with the loss of your Mother. We really enjoy your videos. It's a true blessing seeing a true craftsman doing his thing and being able to teach others. God bless you and your family! Thank you!
As so many others have said, I'm sorry for your loss. My heart sank when you said that. I'm going to have to watch this again tomorrow, someone is cutting onions somewhere.
A point to consider when trying to decide between a crawl space and a post tension slab: whichever one you don't choose can always be covered in a later video. I personally would lean toward a crawl space with many access hatches for use as storage space for my own home, but at the same time you may have an easier time tracking down another project in your area that goes with a crawl space that you may be able to make a deal to film and discuss on the channel. You are a great teacher, and I love the content you've been putting up. Thank you for all the hard work.
I'm torn. Part of me is glad that the spec house project will be resumed soon, but I can't celebrate when it comes at the cost of your mother. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! I lost my mother rather suddenly two years ago, and in some ways the pain is still with me. Death is the great enemy, and even when it comes at the end of a long life, it's still painful and difficult to lose the ones we love. Praise be to God that he has defeated death, and that it has no more sting and no more victory!
Prayers for you and your family Scott. May the Lord bless you and your family and give you the Strength to move forward may the prayers of your mother always carry with you and yours Amen
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. You are doing a wonderful thing, sharing your knowledge with us through these videos. I'm sure your mom was very proud of the man she raised.
We are so incredibly sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She will always be by your side, to help guide and support you through life. Thank you for sharing with us. We wish you all the love!
So sorry about your mums loss i know what you are going through my pop passed away a couple of weeks ago he was the wold to me and your mum was probably the wold to you to.
Really love this channel, Scott. I just wanted to express my appreciation. It isn't just about seeing the work or the craftsmanship, or even learning, although those things are both important to me. I really love just hearing you go through your thought processes and your philosophies on life and society. I appreciate the way you think through things, and place an importance on bringing a sort of level reasoning and intellect to things that most people take for granted as being "blue collar", and for that reason they underscore them. You come off as a real throwback for me, to a different kind of American guy, and a different time period. Glad to see you are bringing 4 people into the world. Take care, and hope for strength for yourself and your family in your time of grieving. Wishing the best for you in the outcomes of your project, and for some fun during the process.
Your Closing comments about having your offspring involved with construction is so true. I grew up in a family that built homes and remodeled homes; at 18 I made the choice of going to a university for higher education but now 20yrs later I desire to be out there doing a tradesman job. The overall satisfaction a tradesman gets from seeing the initial dirt work to the completed project is so satisfying. I have taken my own daughters around to various subdivisions and showed them the houses I helped construct when i was a teenager or on weekends when they were young. Glad to hear your son is still being the blue collar gambler and developing land.
Thank you for everything that you give to your viewers. You have the Mike Rowe values that I love and are passing on via this new media. I learn a lot from watching your videos and how my grandfather passed mechanical knowledge to me; so I hope to pass some of your knowledge to my kids. Condolences from central CA.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Lord, be with everyone touched by Scott's mom. Give them comfort and strength to get them through this difficult time. Let them have peace knowing she is in a better place and not suffering. Amen.
Scott, Matt Risinger did a video showing off a project where they poured a thin concrete floor/slab under a crawl space. It’s allowing the various men and women working down there to roll around on mechanic’s creepers. Not just convenient today, but for everyone who will do service/remodel work under the house in the future. Thought it was an awesome idea that I’d never run into in my residential construction days.
As a general contractor in the SW where slab on grade rules I prefer raised conditioned floors with ICF foundations from a energy conservation and comfort to the occupied. Higher R values and I have also pour rat slabs 2" thick over the insulation for future trade access. Works great with a automotive creeper.
I'm truly sorry for your loss. On the trades for your children thing, I did a biology degree and even started a phd in the same subject and have put that on hold/stopped it to learn a trade. We live in interesting times and the advice I was given growing up is no longer a good rule of thumb.
Sheps I live in Scotland, and here in the UK many many people around my age and younger have degrees in this and that...yet most of them struggle to find work in their field, or at all for that matter. Growing up, my dad always told me...if you can work with your hands, you will never be out of work. I have certainly found this to be the case
So sorry for your loss Scott and I thank you for sharing it with us as I know it is not easy to talk about. I just lost my Aunt 2 weeks ago and I feel your pain! I have to say that your channel is my favorite on all of TH-cam because of how absolutely down to earth and open you are with all of us. God Bless You and your Family!
I know it means little coming from people online who you have no real connection to besides the wonderful content you produce; but our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
So sorry to hear about your Mom, Scott. Prayers for you and your family. Thank you so much for all of your videos, and thank you for your outspoken faith!
I am a younger fellow at 35 but in 2011 i watched my dad pass from a heart attack and 4 mths later my grandpa who was already on dialysis. Once someome goes hospice theu have a few weeks to a few days. 8 months hospice or however long is something you cannot explain until u r there. I took care of dad and gramps by myself and i would do it again to be there for em but WE don't decide when it's time to go. I saw the ramp you built for your mother. If you've had to wheel them into the bathroom or be beckoned to their call you will understand. As a parent now with a 3 year old youd think someday that child will grow and take care of you. That is the circle of life. That really hits home as I was in the care taker position and while it was difficult I would do it again without hesitation. That is what family is for. Ive never been hit with an immediate death like my dad and then gramps. Felt like my gpa said fk it. Nobody should outlive their children. Well I hope your mom is shining down on ya and from a younger person to you, you will get those moments where you think about her and ball your eyes out and thats okay. I still do it and i keep my dad and gpa in my thoughts. As i said before my gpa was old school cement mason and smart man. I know he had his stories and if i showed him someone like you he would approve. He was born in 1928 so you mighta been a hair younger but would enjoy your conversation and knowledge. Your videoa and your values are an inspiration. There is a dying breed of true craftsmen and I watch your videos and think about how I can work smarter and harder from your other video clip. People now days seem to lack value and drive. They want everything handed to em. You are a mentor and true example of an example of what men should strive to be. Technology is making us soft and forgetful about what a man and woman should do. Or welp now transgender and proper pronouns and bullshit...
Scott, deepest condolences for your mother. The strong family you seem to have built will see you through these hard times, and I am sure you are confident with that.
Thank you so much for the wonderful videos you do Scott. I am truly sorry to her if your mothers passing, if she was suffering her pain is now gone and you can take comfort her soul and spirit are now free! God Bless You and all your family🙏
Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family. Going through this with my father in law, 92, skilled boat builder, carpenter, and craftsman. Has all his faculties and can remember his first meal on this planet. There isn’t an easy way of leaving this world. Best always.
Sorry about your mom.. damn sure she's proud of you. No love lost... I thought you sounded different, before you broke the news.. take this time to yourself. Reflect.
Words can not express the sympathy accurately for the loss of your mother. I hope you find the peace that you need and remember her fondly! Much love from southwest Ohio.
We pass the torch and in doing so we do our best to guide our children, watching them grow, teaching them values and Love. I see a Mothers Peace in her last days in You and who you have become and I know she is smiling with joy. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
Your children got to watch how a man handles the loss of a parent, how to care for someone special at the end of their life. They turn to you as adults, they care for you and your knowledge base. Not bad at all. The very act of what you did is more important than most can comprehend. Robert Heinlein the science fiction writer put words into one of his characters. I paraphrase. I saw my father dead in his coffin. Shrunken and wasted. It took me years to be able to remember the vital man who raised me and taught me. Who taught me how to be a man. There was more but I cannot remember . Incisive and relevant. Hope your mother passed without too much suffering. Hope she stayed sharp to the end if not physically able. All the best.
I'm watching all of your videos here over a year later. I have a deep respect and appreciation of you, thank you for sharing and I'm sorry for your loss but happy that you were able to be there for your mother at that time.
Sorry to hear about your mother, I know its late, but you and your family are in my family's prayers. Thanks for the great education and entertainment EC.
I'm very sorry for the loss of your mother. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Please take the rest you need. God bless.
Sorry to hear about your mom. She must have been a great influence on you. She left behind a great son and some even greater grandchildren.
My sympathies, Scott. Your mother raised a fine man. Thank you for what you do.
Sorry for your loss.
So sorry for the passing of your Mom Scott. It's never an easy time. You started young, earned a living and raised a family with a strong back and an honest heart. You sir are the American dream.
The human dream
I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I never met her, but based on the work you've shown here on your channel I have at assume that she was well cared for, and it is clear that she has a lot to be proud about for helping raise you into the man you are.

My deepest condolences Scott. I lost my mom 3 years ago, and still miss her..

How about a post tension slab for the garage to show us how its done? Love the videos, sorry about your loss
WNC Portable Sawmilling I second this idea. I'm more on the side of the pros he talked about who are curious about this method.
I suggested the garage post tension slab and house over crawlspace but didn't get a reply. Hope this comment can breathe life into that option. It provides all viewers insight and instruction. Maybe the cost will be slightly more. I haven't built or done inspections in five years so costs may in fact changed significantly.
Yeah best of both worlds that way, good idea.
I do like that idea. A two fer.
was also going to suggest this
Condolences mr Scott
So sorry about your mother, Scott. Thank you for all the amazing content. Keep up the great work.

Team? Who is helping him with these videos? The music is great and so is the editing.
You are in our prayers Scott. I’m sure she was a great woman and a huge blessing to everyone around here. Thank you for the great work
My heart goes out to you, Scott. She must've been very proud of you. I'm glad you had the time you did.

Scott and family, so sorry for the loss of your mother. Thanks for letting folks like me into your world by way of such a well done TH-cam channel.
Mr Wadsworth, please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. Thank you and Nate for your invaluable contributions and hard work into creating it.
Peace be upon you brother. I lost my grandfather this year. God bless you as you move forward.
A family loss is an incredible obstacle to overcome in ANY project. My thoughts and prayers are with you in these hard times. God bless.
Sorry to hear about your mother Scott, one of the most amazing selfless things I've witnessed with my own eyes was my mom taking care of my grandmother. It takes a special person

Condolences on the loss of your Mom. Your time is much appreciated in those difficult times.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Lord, be with everyone touched by Scott's mom. Give them comfort and strength to get them through this difficult time. Let them have peace knowing she is in a better place and not suffering. Amen.
My condolences on the loss of your mother. Crawl space and make sure it is conditioned and finished. But a full basement is my preference!
Good words as always. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss.
Your mother's life came full circle, celebrate a life well lived. Cherish the many wonderful memories you have of her as she will always be with you.
Scott, Matt Risinger did a video showing off a project where they poured a thin concrete floor/slab under a crawl space. Isaw that and was just contemplating suggesting it. Ibeleive Mat called it a Conditioned crawlspace with the concrete floor. Definately!
Bob, thanks for the backup! I don’t know why this never occurred to me. It’s really a great compromise.
When it comes to crawlspaces, the only way to go is conditioned, and hopefully with a slab!
As a general contractor in the SW where slab on grade rules I prefer raised conditioned floors with ICF foundations from a energy conservation and comfort to the occupied. Around here a lot of crawl spaces have dirt floors which I don’t like. Mine has a concrete floor which I do like.
Joe DeMarco
Yep, dirt floor crawl spaces suck, not useful space imo.
Even a small concrete pad to have is nice
I know it means little coming from people online who you have no real connection to besides the wonderful content you produce; but our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Thank you for sharing something so personal and painful with us :'(
My deepest and most sincerest condolences regarding your mother sorry for your loss. Sincerely Derek Bryant and sons

I wish you and your family peace and comfort. Please know you're appreciated. I've learned so much from.
My Condolences too.
Scott, deepest condolences for your mother. The strong family you seem to have built will see you through these hard times, and I am sure you are confident with that.

Sorry to here about your Mom passing, TH-cam and TH-camrs aren't important compared to what you're going through - all the best from Downunder.
We pass the torch and in doing so we do our best to guide our children, watching them grow, teaching them values and Love. I see a Mothers Peace in her last days in You and who you have become and I know she is smiling with joy. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
Love the crawl space decision. Thank you so much.
I am terribly sorry for your loss! You and your family will be in our prayers!
You are in my prayers always remember that our loved ones go to a better place. Keep your chin up.

I'm just wondering if you're Mike Rowe's uncle. LOL Great update man.
Their views are somewhat analogous. Either way, good company to be in for either of them.
Scott's show is much more interesting and entertaining than Dirty Jobs.
