This Channel makes me so happy. I lost my Dad several years ago, he was a carpenter/builder. I spent many school holiday in my younger years on a work site (something today's regulations don't allow). I never really got what he did in detail, what he needed to know to do his Job. I always wanted to. And i'm sure getting that information from this... Thanks you so Much.

I think we could all benefit from the community of knowledge we have here. I bet many of us would be interested in hearing what the 14 suggestions were, how the plans have changed based on those suggestions, and why you decided to make each change.

You've said this a dozen times, and I just want to repeat the sentiment. You aren't just making this for us loyal returning watchers, you are making this series for the viewers that come across this series years from now. The instant gratification side of me wants to watch all of those videos right now today. But the craftsman in me wants these videos to be done right so that they can last forever. Square, Plumb, and True.

Get loads of blacksmithing videos in the can and have them ready to go. Then drop them slowly amongst all the spec house ones over spring/summer and keep everyone happy? Saying that, I could watch paint dry on this channel and EC would make it interesting, so I wouldn't really worry if there weren't any blacksmithing ones for 9 months... hell, there haven't been any spec house ones for that long anyway and the subs count is still rising :)

I'm going to become a channel patron. You have been at this longer than I have, yet you are openly willingly to admit if you ever make a mistake and to listen to ideas from other people that you don't personally know. The information that you wish to share is very important for those that have never attempted such a project. You have my utmost respect and backing. I wish that I would have had someone like you to work for/with 30 years ago.

“Besides the fact I’m 60” cracked me up so much I had to play it for my wife. As a 65 year old builder/remodeler who retired 6 weeks ago, with arthritis in my hands and cataracts in my eyes, man, could I relate. As a higher end builder the last 30+ years, we’ve used a lot of iron speakeasy grates at front doors, real shutters with real shutter hinges and dogs, inset iron scroll work on interior full view pocket doors. Somehow, I think you’ll find a way to incorporate lots of smithing into the home. And it’s great to see Nate take a more active role in Essential Craftsman! Good luck with the build. I’m looking forward to it!

It's Alive.... the spec house lives! Great news on the content the spec house will generate. How excited you must be to have your son along for the journey. As a 54 yr old tradesman who hired my daughter last year I think I can relate to the emotions this project must stir. I've been a subscriber since early on and look forward to each video you release. The wisdom you share shows you are blessed with a great heritage, and I love that you are sharing is with us all and spreading the word that ethics coupled with hard work has a great payoff and is not some antiquated and arduous lifestyle. It a way to build and pass down a legacy to those who follow. The trades need strong voices to teach that hard work isn't a curse or fate that awaits the unfortunate and ill-equipped. Thanks for adding your voice to those teaching valued life skills and knowledge.

I came across this channel researching ways to fix my anvil. That said I enjoy blacksmithing, but I also enjoy the information passed to us here. You explain it in a manner that is easily understood. And you are humble with your knowledge. And I thank you for that. One of my favorite sayings is if you want to learn something new read an old book. I think no matter the content of this channel no matter the book you teach us from I will enjoy and continue to use in my life and pass on my self where I can. I look forward to the build. Nate and Scott,
The blacksmithing is fun to watch, but the house is teaching me thing that are going to change my life. Thank you so very much for this series. My dream is to build a house in my country (Canada) to my own family's needs. I'll never reach your level (it's not my place in life to pour concrete I think) but I'm learning so much to help me hire those who will do the job right.

I searched for an answer to a specific question I had about construction when I first came across this channel and the construction and carpentry content kept me watching.
The spec house turned me into a patreon supporter of the channel.

I had a thought when I first saw this channel that I wish I could see him build a house or even work with him building a house. It was just a few months later I saw the announcement of the "Spec House". I do truly mean this is a dream come true. I'm excited!

I found this channel about a week ago and it has quickly become one of the best channels I've come across on TH-cam! You guys are awesome and I appreciate how much effort you put into the videos. I've learned so much already from yall and I'm grateful for the information. Thank you for the awesome channel! 👍😁🙏

Hello Scott and Nate, I absolutely love all the videos on your channel. hard to believe that it has been a year and a half already since you began the process of the Spec House build. As a contractor myself, I really appreciate the time you take to explain things others that are following your channel, and for the quality in the work that you do. keep up the great work my friend.

I appreciate all of you're content! I'm a draftsman for larger residential structures, so this is right up my alley. I enjoy seeing what you do differently in single residential dwellings!

Awesome stuff guys, really appreciate your channel. I hope when those snags come while building the house you're not shy about making videos of that too. I think that might be the most valuable information. Keep up the good work!!!

Really like the way the garage is slightly angled-off 30-40 degrees from the main house; nice touch.

As an introvert myself, I feel Nate's pain about being in front of the camera. He doesn't need to worry though, he does great and some day he will be just like his old man. You guys are great, and you blow programs like This Old House out of the water. Keep doing exactly what you are doing. We will be watching.

As a guy who tends to put off the blacksmithing videos but will take a break at work to watch the construction stuff I'm looking forward to spring.

Can't wait for spring. For 2 reasons now. I'm no fan of PA snow storms and now to watch you guys build a house from the ground up!

Just got off work and immediately hit play on this video. I work on a crew with the Kentucky State Parks, and we’ve just been given the go ahead to clean out and repair one of the oldest buildings on our home park (Total roof collapse in one section, several cracked/ rotted rafters overhead throughout the rest of the building). I look forward to seeing the content you all put out and finding bits of information that comes in handy on the job site. Thank you both and God bless.

I've been in Taiwan for years now teaching English and recently I've started up into furniture making. I can't say your videos necessarily teach me technique. I dont plan on building a house any time soon. What I get from your videos is not how to make things, but how to think about making things. Too me, that knowledge is invaluable. Thank you for sharing with everyone.
