Hello Mamas!
I hope that breastfeeding your baby has been as smooth an experience as possible. Today, I’ll be talking about an interesting breastfeeding topic; breastfeeding noises. At first, it can seem like your newborn is breastfeeding constantly. However, it turns out that this doesn’t mean your baby is also eating during all of that time! Keep watching as I explain the difference between the two kinds of infant nursing.
Newborn Breastfeeding
According to Dr. T. Berry Brazelton (author of the Brazelton Assessment Scale), there are two kinds of infant nursing: comfort breastfeeding and breastfeeding for nutritional needs. Comfort breastfeeding is sucking and licking in the front of throat for the purpose of self-soothing. The other is nutritive sucking for eating and happens in the back of the throat. To make sure that your baby is actually eating enough of your breast milk, learn to distinguish between the sound of your baby sucking and actually swallowing the milk and just sucking for comfort. For more on breastfeeding nutrition through nutritive and non-nutritive sucking, refer to my video!
Did you hear both sucking noises from your baby? Please add your comments below - I would love to hear from you!

Please don’t discourage moms to not comfort nurse. Babies nurse for so many more reasons than just milk.
Babies also cluster feed to signal they need more milk, so your supply will accommodate.
This is so against so many experts advice
I came here to really listen to those sounds amd distinguish which ones are which
Yeah me too

Same. My ass is paranoid.
Same here
Just a thought regarding weighing the baby before and after feeding to see how much they are getting from the breast. as long as the same diaper is worn during the before weighing and after weighing it won't matter if the baby pees or poos for the after weighing. 4oz of breastmilk in the baby's tummy is the same as 4oz in the baby's diaper. :)
Love your videos! I'm a new mom to be and I've been watching your videos religiously, great info and very clear :)
Thank you for this video!
check out a video on my site on nursing and teething -- I think when they bite you say NO and take away the breast --
but where is the sound
I heard him sucking at first then it stopped so that means he's not eating?
Baby should be allowed to nurse for comfort. Breasteeding isn't only about nutrition. It is also about nurturing your baby.
Ikr, my sister in law does that to my six week old nephew because he was born 4 months premature and he does it for comfort.
@@ambervantassel3816 excuse me.. your nephew ? You meant your cousin ?
@@Fox.White. actually, I meant to put sister in law, but put aunt by accident
Video did not answer the title 🙄
My baby makes noises like shes gasping, reqlly hard to breathe, loke shes in distress while sucking..the midwife said its normal.. but it doesnt seem normal
Squeeze ur breast maybe thee nose is covered
Babies are sneaky.
:)
How do I break the habit of my baby sucking for comfort? My little girl is 6 weeks now and most days I find myself confined to the couch with her attached because she never seems satisfied and it is emotionally draining.
MsAshlynn12 - I have the same query. Pls help
I know you posted this comment 2 years ago but if you have another baby that does the same thing use a pacifier, what my aunt use to do is she put some of her breast milk on the pacifier and give it to my niece who did the same thing
it is temporary and there is nothing wrong with it. hang in there and let the baby come off the breast when he or she is ready to.

Is your aunt also your sister(in law)? 😂
Could you upload a video with what an incorrect latch and correct sounds like? Or change the misleading title. Thought this would help 🙄
I love you
My baby makes huge sound while saking milk. Why?
Same here my boy is now 12 days olds
@@victoriafrasure148 Like our too, like he cant get an air
Babies don't use breasts as pacifiers. Which was invented first???
Actually they do, I have a six week old nephew who was born 4 months premature and he sucks on my aunt's nipple for comfort.
