You can actually swing really fast by letting go before you go up and quickly swing again. You get more speed by doing that, but unfortunately, you are close to the ground, and you may hit the ground, thereby losing all of your speed
If you are playing miles you can use his venom dash mid air and it really helps keep yourself just above the ground as well as keeping top speed. Especially if you have the air tricks give venom mod you can pretty much just do it forever
While you are correct, it is still nowhere as fast as previous games have been. But this is more a conscious decision made by the developers so that you wouldn't go fast enough that the hardware can't keep up with generating the city. This can be seen in Web of Shadows where you can go really fast that the game can't keep up and you are now swinging in a PS1 quality city.
@@LegendConsole something that I discovered that is very efficient is starting a zip to point and then dodging, it gains speed and if you find a rhythm you can go extremely fast
Some of the funnest swinging I've had was in the amazing spiderman games. You could just fly across the streets. The swinging in the new games definetly feels slower than previous titles
The second amazing Spider-Man game kind of fell off. Even if the graphics weren't better I think the first game I had better mechanics and replay value. And I agree with you that game you could web rush / bullet time to swing across the damn map. You could literally swing up/webzip/scale the tallest building on the map within like a second
It’s because the ps4 couldn’t handle the high speeds and load everything in on time. I’m pretty sure the devs even said they wanted it be faster but couldn’t. Now with Spider-Man 2 being exclusively on ps5 it already shows how they originally wanted the speed
We need a remastered version of Batman Arkham Knight for next gen consoles on xbox because it would be fucking fast and really fluid and everything will load even quicker.
Anyone remember Spider-Man 2 and 3 on the PS2? If I remember correctly, you could go blindingly fast if you timed holding and pressing the button at the right moment between each webswing, it was a bit hard to do 'cause of how blurry the screen would get. Once you had the black suit, you could go even faster, and with that speed, one of my favorite things to do was launch myself extremely high after reaching peak momentum. Never got old. The webswinging mechanic in Ultimate Spider-Man was fun too.
@@TheMrBluJayyes they do lol that’s the game that the 1st Spider Man PS4 was benchmarked against when they made the swinging mechanic. It’s just not as fast
I remember swinging so fast in web of shadows that I’d literally entered into unloaded chunks of map, causing the game to either freeze to load in the map and events, or it would crash the whole console.
I use the “movie style” swinging where you pretty much release the button the second you start moving upwards in your swing. It pretty much throws you and if timed right you can keep the momentum and make swinging really fast
@@stayredeyed Not everyone. One example would be DanTDM, when he was playing the game, he would let go of the web a little higher than the ideal "let-go" moment.
It’s really not that they can’t speed it up, it’s just that at the time they purposefully slowed it down so the map areas could load in fast enough while you are swinging
It does feel kinda slow, even if you get the upgrades n shit. I even tested how fast you could go by dropping off the tallest building and it basically had the same speed as usual, the cap is too low. I wanna properly ling myself across shit
SM2 felt really quick and amazing to handle, but I did miss the opportunities to web zip through obstacles. Apart from the staircases and a few suspended pipes there are not too many opportunities to do that
I actually completely agree with this criticism. Pretty much every play session I end up thinking, "man I really can't go any faster?". Even when timing my swing boosts as optimally as possible, you just can't go faster. It also feels like the swing speed and web zip momentum unpredictably throttle themselves due to either terrain and mission type. (Perfect example is car chases. Go ahead and try to web zip, I dare you.)

@@elmu6783 I know about it but my contention isn't really whether or not I can slightly break the game to move faster. The game itself seems to cap swing speed at a certain velocity when it feels like you should be able to go faster, even just a little bit and even if it's only momentarily. Like if you threw a baseball with enough force to go 70 mph and it stopped getting faster at like 50 mph, it would seem awkward. It should pick up speed until the distance overcomes the velocity. Also it gets awkward around certain geometry.

I think it's more about the FOV you have during the swing. That was actually the real speed when we fall in real life. If you increase the FOV you will notice how significant the sense of speed has improved.
Its like how in minecraft speed potions boost your fov so the effect of the potion feels more significant. You don't feel nearly as fast if you turn off the fov change

I agree! I really don’t understand how people worship the older titles? Insomniac is the first company that achieved realistic swinging. With momentum and style. The older ones feel like spider Man is on steroids.
@@edwaaard46 Cuz it's fun to swing around at high speeds. Simple as that. Realism be damned. PS4 swinging system is fine but it gets dull after a while without things like speed, web climbing and loop-de-loops to keep it interesting.

Its not do to cinematic bs. Its literally to keep that ugly and stuttering pop in non existent. Now that nvme is becoming the standard, hopefully games won't have to make those choices like before. Personally, i hated the pop in on older games. It just bothers me so much no matter the game. So the speed throttling in SM ps4 didn't bother me as much. Although i know others would happily trade pop in for faster swinging and i get it.
That game is my baseline for swing speed and yeah, it feels too slow now. Like, I'm using fast travel instead of actually being Spider-Man because it just becomes a slog.
There's actually a mission in MM where for some reason your swing speed starts of fast AF before halting to its capped speed. Its when you beat the underground at the rally and head to Braithwaite Bridge. The second Miles swings from the cutscene, for some reason he's sent at twice the speed for a moment before swinging.
It's not that the first insomniac game is slow it's just that Web of shadows is really fast. If anything that's insomniacs is a realistic fast approach of how fast spiderman would be swinging givin his strength and endlessly swinging through the city non stop.

Also one tiny little thing that he didn’t mention is that your swing speed in web of shadows is called by how many tokens you collect out of 2000. Absolutely buzzin for the next game hope peter knocks the shit out of miles being brutally honest hahaha 😂
Yes it is relatively slow usually but, There are some hard and easy tricks that will make you faster, example, Wall running + x X + top of building wall run + plus web swing In air hold L3 for a dive, increasing speed Top of web + x There’s are main things that get you to go faster, maybe not as fast as spider man 2, but close to it, plus it also require some reaction/ thinking to do, as you must think about how your next move will impact on the fluidity of you web slinging. This rule may not apply to all of the insomniac player but one rule that will is - The fact that if you mess it up, your satisfaction will also be ruined. And in miles, If you do the same but with camera angles, it gives you at least a sence of speed, but if you actually want real speed, just do the same tricks. Not only so but you can also use your venom abilities to go higher plus faster, (which you will unlock later in the campaign) you can also use your venom dash to go not higher , but faster. This is experimental, but you can use your venom dash and then press L3, and before you go to the ground web swing up and press x, then follow through with a venom jump mid-air - also followed up with yet another web swing and - wala! If you want to carry the speed over fluidy, then you can wall run after. And - if you want you can slip in a few air tricks. Well, that’s all from me, and hey, I have nothing against his opinion - just saying a few things to let him know it’s not all that slow. 😊
The swing in this game most definitely was paced slower that what it could’ve been. But due to limitations it makes sense. But games like SM2 web of shadows and I think the ultimate game, all had faster swinging
Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s because insomniac said something about how they want their game to look good and so not wanting to swing fast or if you do you get missing building that don’t load up or textures not on properly. But like I said don’t quote me.
The swinging will feel slow if you do nothing but mindlessly hold the swing button throw in some web zips and point launches in between your swings and add momentum by diving and pulling up at the last second and you will see just how fast you can traverse the map, it's lowkey a skill issue if you think the swinging is slow because gravity is still a thing in the game and swinging at the speed of web of shadows would break the immersion to some degree it's cool but will feel off sooner or later
@@Void-Knull It's just about right the previous games didn't had the best physics to begin with, what we have now is more grounded to reality while also being plenty rewarding with speed for mastering the traversal mechanisms
Guys , you have to accept the fact that no game is perfect and has problems, even the games of the year . So it's not a bad thing to point out the things that don't work . That's how game developers can make a better game for everyone to enjoy.
Sure. Every game has some problems, but Marvel's spider-man has a lot of problems (how it got 87 of 100, i have no idea!). And I'm afraid most of them will be in the 2nd game as well since they look alike.
Needs dynamic Weight/mass calculation more so than just Speed itself. Weight/Mass is what will launch you further after jumping from tall heights. Currently, the game adjusts your speed to fall in line with canned animations & not much on top of that to give any feelings of dynamic control. Peter shouldn't go flying forward for an extended period before gravity kicks in, off a weak web swing.
Don't get me wrong I loved Spider-Man 2 and Web of Shadows as well, but I just don't get how people loved how fast the swinging could get in those games. It always looks and feels janky, like I'm intentionally breaking the game Skyrim-style. When I swing in a Spider-Man game I want to feel like Spidey swinging in an elegant dance in the sky, not Spectacular Seizure-Man
I get this but I feel like the speed really rewarded you for understanding the mechanic of the game while insomniac spiderman was very hand holdy and automated. It essentially more so like do you wanna look like a experienced spiderman from the jump (insomniac) or do you wanna build yourself up to be a experienced spiderman (spiderman 2 and web of shadows)
@@TyandOnGoing I agree with both aspects that Insomniac's swinging was too restrictive and that it felt empowering to master the swinging in the older games. To me, it just never felt justified to have speed at the sacrifice of the animations barely being able to keep up, and so looking like you're not supposed to go that fast. So yeah, it might be a personal preference thing, but I think there could be a middle ground between the two.
@@samueluy6586 I think spiderman 2 had the best middle ground with there being a option for easy swinging and unrestricted swinging. Im sure insomniac prob has another answer though.
@@TyandOnGoing the easy swing and normal swing modes do not change the core functions and physics of the game they only change one aspect of the system which is shooting the web line without having to hold R2 so you have room for other actions like shooting a second web line while still holding onto the first one (and thanks to this you can also do a manual slingshot) and have to jump off the web manually pressing x in normal swing while in easy swing you have to hold R2 and you can jump off the web simply letting go of R2 but this takes away the options to shoot the second web line and by extention the option do to the slingshot
You would swing super fast if you cancel your swing early with X and re-swing, once you got it to a tea its a just a rapid change from swing/X button to keep the momentum going. Literally cancel when he’s like 0.5seconds into the swing and you go thru the city really fast
@@hazelcrisp most likely you haven’t got it down to the tea. You would want to get to the point where when you swinging you literally see a good amount of motion blur around you. If thats not the case then you prob comparing too much into the older games where FPS is lower and its game mechanics. This game which 60 FPS makes the game run smoother but your character will look slower in comparison because of how the game is rendering frames
@@sensei3436 i already know how to swing. Releasing at the optimal arc. Using web zips, point launches. There really isn't much to it compared to other traversal. Looking at videos like "this is what x hours of playing looks like". It's still very basic and slow.
@@hazelcrispi dont think any of those mechanics is what they're talking about, it does make you go faster. Its still too slow but there is a strat to go faster besides the main mechanic the gane tells you.
The speed will be 0.8 times faster in Spiderman 2. The game will expand to the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, as said by the Creative Director Bryan Intihar.
It’s not as fast as previous games because it actually relies on physics, it’s not just a swinging animation if that makes sense, but it’s still way better than any other spiderman game
@@Void-Knull This is the reason. Its so weird. There is no such thing as a perfect game, every game has areas where it can improve and pointing those out shouldn't get you attacked by rabid fans with nothing better to do.
I think the real issue is that the swinging itself doesn’t feel like it has much physics to it or maybe too many safety nets. Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man3, Ultimate and Web of Shadows all feel like your character becomes a pendulum when you swing on a web. Insomniac has some physics but it works overtime to keep you above the ground and always able to instantly run on a wall/object.
I have a super fast swinging technique If you press X when you're in just about the middle of the animation you can go way faster instead of pressing X at the end This works for all the spiderman insomniac games btw (Ik Im like a year late to this video but I don't care)
The swinging is slow but kind of justified for the game they made which is more grounded and cinematic compared to other Spiderman games. But since it's confirmed by insomniac that the PS4's capability limited the swinging speed, we don't have to debate that much about it anymore. And correct me if I'm wrong but I certainly remember Ultimate Spiderman game's swinging to be slow too, because I remember playing that game after beating Spiderman 2 ps2 and my initial thought about the swinging was slow compared to the latter.
Now that I’ve played Spider-Man 2, I can’t believe how slow the previous games look. I’m glad I replayed them before Spider-Man 2, because I don’t know if I’ll be able to go back to them after this.
yea, im playing spider-man now, and going back from Spider-man 2, you reallly notice how slow the first game is. I just remember it being quite fast tho
@@shaquilleIVit's called swing steering assist in the gameplay tab of the settings. When at 10, (default) you swing forward even though your webs attach to things to your sides. With it set to 0, it makes swinging slower but realistic, meaning whatever you connect to you'll veer towards it. Like actually physics. If you swung under a bridge and the web is above you, you'll move forward. But if your webs attach to something to your left or right, the web will be diagonal from your position, thus meaning you'll move forward but also veer towards what you webbed to.
Adding a higher skill ceiling will make it so you get better and enjoy the game for longer, say the only method of traversal was holding down r2 to get to your destination, after a few minutes, it gets boring, thats why the game has so many other ways to traverse, adding more will raise the ceiling and make it more fun.
He specifically said he chose to showcase him swinging slower to highlight the swinging's strengths. He does have a point. Simply look up Spider-man PS4 swinging max speed and compare that to games of the past. Take a look into what the devs themselves had to say (something aqua briefly touched on). They admitted themselves that due to the PS4's limited rendering capabilities, they had to limit swinging speed.
I love the "you just don't know how to play" argument because it's just a personal attack and the kids who said it don't really want to discuss the swinging, they don't even want to think about it
Because speed matters alot. Even insomniac wanted it to be faster but couldnt due to hardware limitations. The new spiderman at least with the new hardware will have faster swinging.

For real I went back to Miles Morales after getting the platinum trophy on Spiderman 2 and never realized how slow it felt the swing speed upgrades in SM2 really speed it up
Don’t swing fully up maybe that’s why 😂 not saying it’s the fastest but it’s way faster if you swing right across the ground and let go as like you are running with the swings. Stay in a line and close to the ground and it’s way faster.
I was told by a friend when I first got Spider-Man remastered on Steam that there are mods to allow you to swing faster, but I opted not to install any mods on my first place or because I had never played the game before. And immediately after beating the last DLC chapter, I decided to go back and start a new game plus with and uncapped swing speed mod, and man I love the fastest swinging so much. I do encounter loading screens more often though, but that might be down to the fact that I'm playing the game off of a SATA SSD. I actually completely agree with this criticism. Pretty much every play session I end up thinking, "man I really can't go any faster?". Even when timing my swing boosts as optimally as possible, you just can't go faster. Like if you threw a baseball with enough force to go 70 mph and it stopped getting faster at like 50 mph, it would seem awkward. It should pick up speed until the distance overcomes the velocity. Yes it is relatively slow usually but,
There are some hard and easy tricks that will make you faster, example,
Wall running + x
X + top of building wall run
+ plus web swing
In air hold L3 for a dive, increasing speed
Top of web + x
There’s are main things that get you to go faster, maybe not as fast as spider man 2, but close to it, plus it also require some reaction/ thinking to do, as you must think about how your next move will impact on the fluidity of you web slinging. This rule may not apply to all of the insomniac player but one rule that will is -
The fact that if you mess it up, your satisfaction will also be ruined.
And in miles,
If you do the same but with camera angles, it gives you at least a sence of speed, but if you actually want real speed, just do the same tricks. Not only so but you can also use your venom abilities to go higher plus faster, (which you will unlock later in the campaign) you can also use your venom
dash to go not higher , but faster.

Spider-Man 2’s swinging on the PS2 will forever be the standard in my eyes.
After playing Spider-Man 2 I finally understand
If I’m not mistaken the swinging was slower back then due to the old gen console not being able to handle fast swinging while making it look nice
After playing miles and seeing yt videos from far in the game, I got the remastered version and it felt like swinging through jello
@@TyandOnGoing I agree with both aspects that Insomniac's swinging was too restrictive and that it felt empowering to master the swinging in the older games. I do encounter loading screens more often though, but that might be down to the fact that I'm playing the game off of a SATA SSD. I don't know if I'll be able to go back to the slower swinging when I play miles Morales, but I'm going to try and start vanilla when I eventually get the cash to buy it.
