It's my favorite game of 2024. You're right about the dam not being an eseentiel thing. I found that you can fill your fields but you don't have to. If you fill all of it, you're in a good place to win the game. Very interesting rewiew, thanks.
The player driven end of game is always tricky. I know in a high level Great Western Trail the goal is to make a fast but efficient path the Kansas City. As you get better your scores go down because you find the sweet spot of efficient scoring and speed. But as you mentioned that comes with the trade off of not doing everything or the stuff you want. I wonder if other games like Viticulture would have a similar issue if the endgame trigger there was different from a first to so many points.
I actually gave feedback about the dam to board & dice. It doesn’t make any sense that the water spins a windmill. It’s not a waterwheel. Otherwise I agree that it’s a solid game.

I totally agree with you about the dam. When I play this game, I’m always trying to slow it down and not use the dam too much or not at all.
Yep, it's the one thing I don't like
This one looks cute. Rondel and midweight might be good for my group
It's a nice solid midweight
I hate the dam too. Wish there was some variant to take it away.
Agreed
