I'm a long, tall black man, 6"8,. aged 60. I'm not offended. As a a musician, trying to keep it real. The world is filled pain, anger, and suffering. Music should reflect that, though it makes many uncomfortable.♥️

I agree 100% Music should make us uncomfortable. Or sad, or joyful, or... The point of music is to make us feel something even if that feeling is unpleasant and if it does that then it has done it's job. I'm not a musician but I listen to music because it stirs emotions in me. I don't think emotions can be good or bad only the way you respond to those emotions can carry moral weight. And if we are never exposed to things that makes us uncomfortable in songs or movies or other safe ways how can we prepare for those uncomfortable moments that real life makes inevitable.

How have we come to the point that art must be agreed with? The whole point of art is that it isn’t art if the goal was to gain agreement. It makes a statement through the prism of its creator and it leaves the receiver to determine how they feel about the impact it has. Art by definition doesn’t care HOW a person feels, just that they DO feel. This is one man’s vision and I have zero authority to ask him to alter his reality to comfort my feelings… just sayin’

David Allen Coe could always tell a good story. I first new him in Nashville early 70s when he got a name for rewriting Towne's songs and singing 'rude' songs at the Exit Inn. But he's proved a country boy can survive, and good luck to him. He even got Johnny Cash to write a song 'about' him.

Mama singing I didn't know God made honky tonk angels while my daddy played guitar, singing all those songs from the Grand Ole Opry, that's country and I lived it.
My daddy was a big Johnny Cash fan, we'd listen to him sing and play Folsom Prison Blues and all the favorite Cadh songs from the day. My lord, I miss those days and I miss mama and daddy. This was my childhood growing up. I learned to play guitar and play all those songs. I wish everyone could experience true country like I did.

That's cause today's country music "isn't" country at all, it's just pop crap & full of people who don't know what country music is ! Plus this song is from the 70's when outlaw country singers were "actually outlaws" like Johnny Paycheck, Merle Haggard, this man David Alan Coe & a few others !

This sounds like my grandparents. They had 11 kids, farmed and grew everything they had. He also did construction, carpentry.
He used to drink old Milwaukee, he'd stack them up like a castle. I always knew when he was drinking, cause he was otherwise pretty quiet. But on those drinking days, he'd say hey come here sit girl,...and he would tell lots of stories. God I miss him and helping him break beans, and him getting mad at me for stealing all his cane poles off the plants to make a tee pee, which my cousin's and I caught on fire. Haha he was running around the yard trying to chase us yelling, and my grandma waiting on the porch with a nice switch. (Damn, if that ain't KY I don't know what is 😏).

I wasn't born,, raised or baptized racist.. My parents never used it except as a quote from something someone else said in order to be in context. (Example...) I mentioned to so-and-so and she replied, "Well, what would you expect from...
Those people weren't welcome in our home. However, you pick and choose racism. If any person says it, it's racism. Not just people on "your team".

Y’know, if u listen to the song and not worry about the one word that grabbed everyone’s attention, it’s a great song! Doesn’t really matter he said the Hard R or that he’s white, it’s from 1977 for cryin out loud😂 and it’s a metaphor about how hard his dirt poor family worked, he didn’t call any black people the word in a rude way or anything! But just don’t be surprised if Spotify decides to take off the one where he says “slave” though, politics might catch up.🤦🏻‍♂️ Oh and I hope he recovers from Covid sooner than later!
