This is what I was looking for! Someone who was attempting to do a true, sound on, Cover! Awesome! I could almost see Alice Deejay dancing! Excellent work! Thanks for sharing the keyboard numbers too. 5 stars
The DGX-220 has been replaced by it's identical looking brother the DGX-230. The 230 does not have this drum beat (style) that I used in this video with my 220. Other than that I don't know if they differ at all. To answer your question,I got mine in an electronics store ( Best Buy ) in Florida about 2 years ago.
When I looked at the title of the vid I was like "Better off alone? Where have I heard that before" And when you started I found myself humming along and said oohhhh I remember, you're real good bro!
@gaara924 : Yes this is a DGX-220! They don't make it anymore because it's been replaced with the identical looking 230 as you found out. I don't know why though. Funny that the only drum beat I used on the 220 ( in this video too) is not to be found on the newer 230! At least as far as I know from commenters. Bummer!
@fizk0 : Thanks! What happens is that most of the songs that you listen to and compare to a keyboard, you will find that they are between notes or de-tuned. So I just play them in the key that sounds the closest to the original.
@charmer716 : Thank you! and that's right it's a good work out for playing with two hands. Actually after mastering the basic method it is very simple to play, and the same technoque can be applied to a bunch of techno songs. Always make sure that the melody and the bass goes well played separately before trying to put them together.
On a DGX-220? Hit "function" button, use the up or down arrows right under the dial to toggle through the menu until it says " Split Point" then use the dial to move it up or down where ever you want it. Then save it to whatever panel setting you are on ( Bank 1-8 , 1 or 2 ) otherwise it will go back to where it was when you turn it off. Any other keyboard if it has split, there has to be a way to change split point.
Thanks! Lol yeah he is. I think the warning "strike" against the video will always be there. When I go to "my videos" and get to this one,it is displayed as YOU NEED TO REVIEW THIS VIDEO... Funny thing is a week later this video appears on top of the related videos in a gray box as " featured video" ??? Not sure what that means but thank you for your comment!
@bomerman104 : It's voice number 339 on the DGX-220 and there are no categories on this keyboard. ( I don't know the name of the sound because I'm away from my keyboard now)
@gaara924 : Hey! All was used is the keyboard it self! Yamaha DGX-220. And of course I had to record the audio so you can hear it in better quality than the mic in the camera could have done,so I used a recording program called Audacity to record it to my PC. Played live, meaning no editing was done.
@Reyna13a : I have not tried recording accompaniment but i think it's possible to do onto one of the 5 tracks available on the keyboard. Then whatever other instruments you want to play on the rest of the tracks. You have to do it one track at the time and it took me some time to figure it out when I tried it. You can always record the whole thing (as you would hear it from the keyboard's speakers) into a computer which is what I'm doing, but you would have to play it live.Needs cable & Audacity!
@GTAandrew: Hey Andrew! Congrats on the keyboard! I only have the baby version of that, the DGX-220 so I am not sure what exactly they packed into the 630. However I'm sure it has a button that says split so if you hold it down for about a second, you can brows all the sounds you want to make a split sound. You can also change the split point by hitting "Function" and scroll through the menu to get to split point, then just use the dial to change it.
Yes I will do a tutorial for this because of multiple requests but it will have to wait for my computer to work again. I'm not sure about the keyboards, I suggest that you go to music stores and check them out for your self. : ) Cheers!
Quite a few years of DRUMMING gave me the independency that helped me to play keyboard easier. I got this keyboard about two years ago and been playing it fairly consistently since then.
hey thanks for putting the camera to see the piano at an angle it helped me get the notes thankyou keeping left and right hand sync is hard though...awesome job
If I didn't see the keyboard, I'd say it is definitly the real karaoke version. so, I'm meaning you got it perfectly and the sound quality is PERFECT happy valentine's day, keep playing like this, you're actually a beast :P
Hard to say.. I play pretty consistently since I bought the DGX about 2 years ago but I had little toy-ish keyboard as a kid many years before that. However I did not play for probably 12 years or more between the two. ( I'm just guessing the years )
Hi! If you want to pitch the notes up or down, you hit function button then with the arrow buttons below the dial you go to transpose, then with the dial you go 12 steps plus or minus to get an octave. I hope that helps! About downloadable sounds, I think it is not possible for this keyboard but I could be wrong. Thanks!
@JimmyinChrist : Actually once you got the hang of the left hand pumping the bass between drum beats,it's not hard at all,but yes to arrange the changes and stuff takes a little practice : ) Thanks!
@JOSHIEKIDD : They are not the same but very close. For one thing that I know from people telling me that they can not find this exact drum beat on the 230. (the beat I always used on the 220) Other than that I don't really know what the difference is.
@Joetheguido1011 He splitted the keyboard and so he can play the bass sound "HiQ Bass" with the left hand and the synth sound "Saw Lead" with the right hand. He doesn't use the auto accompaninment, only the drum beat.
Oh I forgot at 0:32 I got some strings going on. Sorry I had to wipe out these settings from my keyboard;s memory to make room for new songs so I can't look it up exactly. DGX-220 only has 16 memory presets. My new MM6 on the other hand has 64 so that's much better.
@music01234567 No. It's actually an cable with usb on one end and 6.3 mm stereo on the other. They are rare though, as the most common is an external USB soundcard. It will be interesting to see the transfer difference between sound to usb contrary to what i've used before, which is analog audio transfer as well as soundfonts. Yes the line-in does not generate such noise as the mic input but the quality is still low.
@Alexlisas : No MIDI here. simply run an audio cable from the keyboard's headphones jack to the PC's " Line In " jack and record into the computer. Here you need a recording program such as Audacity ( free to download ) At the same time I record with my camera for the video. Then I open windows movie maker and import both the audio file and the video file and synchronize them in movie maker! Now I have a video with a lot better sound than what the camera alone could have done on it's own!
Yes you can shift the split point which I have had to do on many occasions. Especially on the MM6 since that one has a narrower range to play on. ( 61 keys vs 76 )
Hey Alex! I'm not even sure if they still make this one (dgx-220). I think they were replaced with the dgx-230. However I'm pretty sure you can find some deal on similar or equivalent, you just have to go after it a little. Look locally, in music stores, ebay,I got this one (new) in an electronics store.
Hey Mtayieb ofcourse it's posibble on MM6 Difference between MM6 ( $600) and DGX-220 ( $320) is better sounds and more "power" on MM6. I did not learn about synths. What you hear is all preset ( factory) sounds on my keyboard(s) Thanks!
Hey vitrums! Thanks, and yeah I never use the accompaniment because they are unusable for me.I rather use split and select a bass sound and tap it in there,it makes the song more realistic than the acc. In this kind of music it is not really hard to do.
Haha kennis942 you are right! I did play it about that much slower. Nowdays I try to "clock" the speed of a song first but this one slipped through. Good catch and thanks!
@StefPhoenixOoORising: I'm sure what you're getting is a USB audio interface not just a cable. If it's good quality it might sound good.( mine doesn't) I recorded this with simple audio cable from headphones output to line in at PC. ( not the mic input) I used Audacity. I"m dealing with noise issues too when recording. My motif rack is the only hardware that never gave me noise problems when recording. Good luck with your new cable!
That's probably the same as DGX-230. Style 044 is Hip Shf1 on the DGX-220 I don't think I have tch on mine. I'm glad you are enjoying your keyboard though!
Sad to see all the old comments and reply’s to deleted accounts 😞

@Sh4d0wpho3n1x : Yes the dgx-220 has been replaced by the 230. Very similar keyboards.
@Jenii0132 : Thank you! I think I already had the reverb maxed out on this keyboard and I don't own a sustain pedal : )
@Reyna13a : I have not tried recording accompaniment but i think it's possible to do onto one of the 5 tracks available on the keyboard. Then whatever other instruments you want to play on the rest of the tracks. @TheWelshFrankie: I'm not sure.Maybe a week? I spend most time on figuring out the arrangement, sounds etc.
5 stars on this one! I really like that you even made it your own a little bit. great job friend!
Thanks! The style is " HouseMsk " 034 on the DGX-220. I toggle between A and B but the style stays the same.
You are THE BEST on you tube Barna!!!!! :) Amazing!
you nailed the sound! Really impressive, knowing that this keyboard doesn't even have filters...
