Yup, the Mikey we saw in the Christmas episode was already using, and even then he was charming and charismatic. In this episode he's probably still clean, and that's the real Mikey.
Viewers and people in the show always said Richie was useless until “Forks” but he wasn’t, he’s always had that charm and love of customer service. I bet a lot of people went to the beef just to see him.
Was always my favorite since 1x1 imagine losing your best friend and just going on as life is normal.... that's what people didn't understand from the get-go
Yup Richie always had a magnetic personality he just never knew how to channel it. He tried to at The Beef, then when Mikey died he became bitter, and staging at Ever with Garrett and Jess made him realize he always had it in him
Liza Colon-Zayas is obviously INCREDIBLE in this episode, and I don't want to take away from that at all... but holy hell, is that one scene in The Beef all the evidence we will ever need that Jon Bernthal rolled a natural 20 when it comes to charisma. Dude is beyond magnetic.
The most wholesome episode. I put this over Forks. I like to think the first bite Tina took of Carm's sandwich in episode 1 reminded her of the first bite after Mikey offered her a job. That moment where it hits all the taste buds and your brain is checking all the boxes in the Pro column.
"I remember there was this one time we didn't have napkins and I told him 'Mikey, you need to pay these mfs we *need* napkins' and he said 'what's the point? we won't be able to pay em next month anyway." "That sounds like that was his attitude about things, huh?" "No. I remember because it wasn't."
Love that her real life hubby is her hubby here. Also love the napkin call back. In the last episode of season 1 when Carm asked Tina about KBL and money she tells him a story about napkins and Mikey. And Ayo did a great job directing.
Another reason why Tina was standoffish at the beginning is because of how special The Beef is to her, and the special place Mikey had in her heart, that she wasn’t gonna let just anybody take that away. She was being a protective mom. Then she saw that it was coming from a sincere place for Sydney and Carmy :)
the Soviet Union theme being played while Maple was talking about the corporate system had me chuckling bad 😭😭😭😂 loved whoever edited this episode lol also, Tina’s husband in this episode is her ACTUAL husband in real life which is why the chemistry is off the charts
"This episode brought out the human in me." I feel this way for this whole show! The scene between Tina and Michael is so beautiful. You can also see why Tina was so protective of The Beef when Carmy first came in and it's also so powerful to see what made Michael so loved. This show is just stunning.
This is what I appreciate about your channel. You both listen and really watch the episodes and don’t over talk when not necessary and don’t give overreactions and elicit inauthenticity for views. You two are awesome and have great amount of empathy, and provide great insight. This was by far the best episode of S3, and Ayo killed this episode. So well directed.
A portion of people generally do hate a system in which there are haves and have nots lol. I can sympathize but… it’s pretty good when you’re on the right side of things
Interesting seeing Tina's backstory. Anyone who has ever searched for employment could definitely relate. Good to see David Zayas (Sgt. Batista from Dexter) in this episode. Had no idea they were married in real life. The best thing about this series other than the realism is that you find yourself genuinely rooting for these characters.
I loved this episode, it kind of proves something about the world in general. People in positions of power and people that have comfy jobs are usually really uninterested in other people. It’s when you go to those hole in the wall, off the beaten path, random places that you actually get treated like a human being. People that might hate the job, but love the work, always make everyone around them feel welcome.
lol comrade maple preaching her views on the us college for profit system with the ussr anthem in the background was so funny haha. Died laughing at that
Incredible episode, one of the best this season. I’m just now realizing that the way she initially felt about Syd might have stemmed from a deep fear of being replaced again..
Liza Colón-Zayas was freaking amazing this episode. But then I've seen her in her other stuff and knew it. Was just waiting for her to get her focus ep.
I love how Michael is portrayed. You can totally see why people loved him soo much and why the loss of him was soo devastating.

Yea, great work by Bernthal. You can totally see the subtle difference between the character here and the Christmas episode.

When Tina said to carmen that she loved mikey in season 1, she really really meant that

This one was a good palet cleanser. We needed time away from the restaurant, and we needed to see Michael again.

Maple you don’t have to apologize in the edit to speaking out against the cruelty of capitalism. I admire you for it!
Fun fact: This was Ayo Edibiri's directorial debut❤
Brilliantly done!
That Sabotage entrance to the original Beef is 🔥
Not that they noticed, Mable talked through the entire thing.
Show always makes me cry, even after repeated viewings…it’s like scary therapy

I think this is my favorite episode from this season
You think this made you cry? Episode 8 is going to make you bawl like a baby.
What a blessing it is to just be listened to by someone.

Hey editor Jess here. I wasn't sure about about putting this in but I'm very happy to see there's some hasanabi heads in our chat!

This episode was directed by Sydney herself!!! Ayo did such a good job
Love john berthal. Bravo.
I like how the actual owner of the Beef IRL is a cook in this season
Love this episode ❤
I cried very hard during this episode

I see you, Maple, you and Hank Pecker
If Jon bernthal is not tellin you somethin , he's always askin you somethin first.
This show is soo well written
Knowing you both love Tina, I knew youd love this one.
I love this episode so much
