Nicely laid out, simply described, I'm very much liking your approach. A guitar player sharing his skills and knowledge without unnecessary guff. Plus, you're not putting anyone down! That's a big thumbs up from me ... 👍👍
Thank you for this lesson. I have been wanting to go back and learn some Charlie Christian essential building blocks. This was a perfect as I had hoped it would be!
Excellent, Thanks. This is exactly where I need to pick back up. Dominant chords easy to understand, straightforward and that last thing you said about "shapes" not just being shapes, that you need to know the 6th, 9th etc.... my exact lesson plan that I know I have needed. Thanks.
I think this channel deserves more attention, its really great and helpful. Please keep going with this great tips! P.D. I really enjoy Charlie's playing, I transcribe the Swing To Bop Solo and it was incredibly helpful, I discover thinks like what you said on the vidieo and more, he was out of this world by the time haha
Thanks Daniel. Yes, love making videos and will be keeping up with my 2 videos a week. Transcribing his solo is such a useful thing to do. I just always wonder how his playing would have developed had he not died so young.
Do you have an entire series on the Charlie Christian style? I would love to explore his chord melody improv through your style of teaching. So comprehensive ❤
I think I have a few other ones, one about playing over major chords in his style and the other about the standard 'Flying Home'. Glad you liked the video! Andy
THANKS. I really enjoy your videos, and the music of Benny Goodman and Charlie Christian. Plus, the Gibson archtop is just sooo beautiful. Tah muchly and tally ho.
Very correct. But CC was thinking more as a substitute half dim arpeggio from the third of the chord.( Bm7b5 over G7). Also he would do only downstrokes.
This lesson is a little dive into how Charlie Christian approaches playing over dominant chords. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions 🎸😀
@@jazzguitarwithandy It is lovely being a Dad. Wait till you are a Grandad (or 'Pop'). It is blissful... all of the joy and few of the responsibilities ;-) I was asking about those colours as I plan to buy a 7.25 gauge steam locomotive with my 'Lump Sum' and I think that blue would suit the boiler and cab, and that red the wheels, valve gear and buffer beams. All I need now is to find the RAL codes for Spiderman. Easy!
@@stephensmith799 That awesome. Are you based in the UK? I could probably find the name of the paint and where I got it. I also used the colours of the New York Rangers as inspiration. Can't beat a good steam train. Do you have a 7.25 guage track in your garden?
Amazing! I have a doubt: When u say “over dominant chord”, are u meaning just over the V chords in a blues or this works over all chords in blues? (I7 - IV7 - V7)?
Yes, you can apply it to each chord in a blues. Just depends what colours/intervals you want to go for. I mean a later view would be to use things like Lydian dominant on the IV chord but with this chord tone approach it is more about the intervals to go for on a certain chord type.
It sure didn’t, it’s not a system I’ve used. Analyse a lot of his music though and these areas of the guitar keep coming up in his soloing. For a lot of people that makes it quite accessible.
Merci , vous êtes mon favori.... Your bro from Belgium 😉
Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏
Been trying to learn Charlie Christian and you nailed it! One of the best internet guitar lessons I've had!
Thanks Carter - really glad you liked this lesson. I have a few others on Charlie on my channel too.

Thank you kindly!
Thank you so much for making these videos. You explained something in a few minutes that I’ve been trying to understand for months.
My pleasure. Glad you've found them helpful.
Good night. Great explanation. Parker always outlined the 9th over all the chord changes. Barry always liked the 6ths over major or minor.
💯👍

Thanks. I should make some more CC videos
My kind of lesson. Not to hard. Not too easy. All useful stuff
Glad to hear that!
Excellent lesson - great job
Thanks Hamish

Those are really nice colours behind you... do you know the RAL colour codes for them????!
I'm afraid I don't ! I decorated my son's bedroom in Spiderman colours and then ended up with the same in my studio!

@@jazzguitarwithandy Alas the garden is too small but there are club tracks and yes I'm in the UK...
@@stephensmith799 I only ask as the colours are from the B and Q valspar range.
One Question to this great lesson: Can I use the #5 and 7 as chromatic passingtones over dom7-chords???
Yes I definitely. Very common to hear root, 7, b7. Or the #5 going 6,#5,5 or the other way round
