You're a maker of brave decisions, so the worse pain of regret is something you won't suffer later. As an Australian, my view is that it's often difficult for non-Caucasians to get ahead here. Especially without a built-in network of friends or contacts, or if you walk your own path instead of conforming to mainstream expectations. Beneath the public image of a friendly, laid-back nation is the reality that there's plenty of low-level racism, widespread xenophobia, and the undesirable traits that come from a conservative society. Not all of us - but enough to make life harder for many new arrivals. I admire what you're doing, and also - you pronounced 'Melbourne' perfectly and naturally - not easy for non-Australians to do. Nice.

Be bold! We welcome you here. I have said it before. Get out and walk every day. You will feel better about yourself and maybe even meet some nice friends. Oh, by the way, tell everybody you meet that you are looking for work. You never know who may be looking for workers, or know someone who is.
