Hi Creag J Martin this is Jermey McGuire, I can relate to this song don’t take the girl; let’s go back on Friday January 3rd 2003 I was in the 8th grade and it was my last year at Santa Fe, Junior High in Santa Fe, Texas where I use to live. I was about to start my spring semester; the next week one day I came home from school. I after I took off my backpack then I went to my room to listen to the radio, to wind down and relax after a long day at school That was my ritual after I got home from school I’d turn the radio on I’d listen to KKBQ 93Q Country 92.9FM then I randomly changed the station and I landed on 97.1FM.” Then I noticed the station was playing classic country, tjen the station became country legends 97.1FM (KTHT) Country legends 97.1FM became my favorite country station to listen to for little over 20 years the radio station was son in July in 2023 When COX radio decided to leave the Houston radio market then on Tuesday 10/31/23 when my favorite country legends station was no longer on the radio then country legends went to HD radio KKBQ 92.9 HD2 that’s where the station resides today when I found out my favorite country station was not on the radio anymore.” I was very upset, I wondered why did they have to take my favorite country station away; My friends felt the same way I did when the classic country went M.I.A now you must have a radio that is HD compatible or you need to stream the station on your iPhone, that’s what I do now when I want to connect with my favorite country station; It takes me back down memory lane and remember the good times I had listening to my favorite country station, now when I go visit family and friends where I use to live.” I no longer listen to the radio when I go to my old hometown; I asked why did he took my favorite country station off the radio where I use to live. Thank gosh d where i now live I have a classic country station on 97.5FM (KFTX) real country here in the Lake Corpus Christi area.” To this day I no longer listen to the radio in my old hometown;

God bless his soul. R.I.P Craig J. Martin. Your talent lives on through all the lyrics you have written. This song touches me down to my soul. My husband sung this song to me and I felt his love pouring out, the same way I felt the love pouring out of you while telling your story behind writing the song. May your family find peace and comfort.
Great to hear the back story of the influence of that incredible song. I remember meeting and seeing him perform this soulful song at a Printer's Alley club in Nashville around 96. He's a great guy, very humble and kind. I heard his recent song he'd just written, "I'm A Kid In Trouble", first time I heard it, even first couple verses and melody knew it was hit material. Sure hope it lands on the desk of a established artist, needs and deserves to be heard. Many relate to it. He's sure gonna be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I love this song. It reminds me of memories from when I was young. They don’t make songs like this anymore. Ooh! The end gets me every time. Thank you for sharing!

I am a crisis responder - I spend a lot of time guiding people from a hot moment to a cool calm -always reminding them that through the toughest moments in life there is a reason for their sadness and despair. I also share that the best musicians and authors reach a depth that brings them to a light that makes them shine. My dear sweet Craig -You shine...your words - your stories bring joy to my being and smiles to my heart- tears too but only as a gentle reminder that we all carry a burden and if we listen carefully those whispers are able to transmit a message that we all need to hear. Gratitude for sharing your wonderful gift- keep listening to those whispers- they remind us that the universe is always listening. In gentle mind, Mdm Samm
I love this song and cry every single time at the end no matter how many times I listen to it. It takes a special talent to be able to put lyrics and music together to be able to touch people so thank you.
Love hearing stories behind songs! Just happened to seek out after listening, was happy to actually find some background, since Ive always been curious. And if I might say, will always, imo be one of the greatest songs ever written. As an artist/ person that aspires (or more like fantasizes) about writing songs, I always appreciate hearing origins, how artists conceive of their ideas / where their inspiration comes from. In this case, really explains so much as to the depth of emotion felt through the words and melody, seriously gets me every time! So well done!
Craig I never thought I could love a version of this classic as much as I love Tim's but there is just something in the way you sing it it makes the listener feel like they have gone through this even if they haven't
Mr. Martin. May I say what a thrill and pleasure it is for me to come across your TH-cam channel. Always a joy to put a face and story behind one of my favorite songs of all time. I grew up so attached to this song. I always wished my dad was the one singing it to me. He just wasn't equipped to loving his kids. I haven't heard from him in over 10 years. Thank you for giving me hope as a little girl that I would one day be truly loved by a man.
Good story. I have a woman like that. Flying down from Maine to see me in a couple of weeks. I’m supposed to fix HER homemade pizza though. And sing her this song. I can’t however get through it without welling up because the thought of ever losing her gets in my head and I just get emotional. Lol. I’ll just keep at it. I have two weeks. Beautiful song.

Hello Mr. Martin. I have a song I wrote for a friend who was killed in Iraq after we graduated high school. I'd be honored if you would take a listen and give me some feedback or direction on what to do with it. Is there a way I can contact you directly?
I’ve always been curious about the beginning of this song. Where did the little girl come from? Why the dad decide he would just keep her? I know it wouldn’t fit in the song, but it seems there would’ve been some sort of process to find her parents or something first. Guess I’ll never know. This has always been my favorite song and it was a joy to hear the writer sing it.
It's always different when you hear the writer sing it there's something special about it
