I actually loved Jennie's performance in all that pink venom 3 stages but really what hapnd to jennie in this one? I felt her energy drop. Lastly who even thout of that smoke n sound thing in the end, it mostly ruined a perfect ending. This is the difference in Korea n America stage I guess, u can even see an artists minor fault in American stages. BP are very talented, yg should keep giving them more stages to perform that'll make them give same energy n charisma in all their performances. Let's hope for other stages.
I think kpop fans are really used to the usual kpop performance wherein they use props, hard choreography, etc. that's why they expected a lot.. but since I've been a fan of a lot of yg artist (since 2013) I got used to them not doing a hard choreo (except treasure) Personally, I love their looks, their whole outfit. On the other hand, the smoke was too much, I couldn't see their choreo very well😭
US stages are very different. They don’t just do angles that work for the specific dance, they show *all* angles of a performance, good or bad. I also think the girls were nervous. It’s not the same as a concert or music show when the people there support you because they like you. These award shows are very raw and people are there to judge your performance abilities. So I think they need to adjust to that next time.
I absolutely love the song and them but I think the issue at the VMA was they blended in too much with the background dancers and they didn’t pop. Lighting was really off and too much smoke you couldn’t see them. Other than that I loved it.
Their TeAm is basically not as PREPARED as BIGHIT, so what is YG now compared to Bighit? HYBE set the bar so HIGH.. BP is HUGE in TH-cam but not in the Live Stage.. this opportunity is wasted..
The only main issues were 1. too much smoke that you can’t see them! That’s a fail on the stage folks part. 2. They should’ve stood out from the back up dancers more, either change their outfits or change theirs, can’t be the same color. Folks who are new to Blackpink wouldn’t know who’s who right away. That’s a fail on wardrobe stylists part. Blackpink themselves did a great job.
They're used to performing in Inkigayos and stuff but at the VMAS, the staff failed to prepare all out for this, the girls having trouble in mics and the whole stage was a mess so they couldn't give their best. BUT still, THEY DEFINITELY ATE IT UP. THEY WORKED IT AND STILL MANAGED TO SLAY THE PERFORMANCE, especially the vocals (Rosé 's voice is so powerful)
I miss those fiery girls from 2016 that were actually exciting to watch and listen to. It’s just seemed to go downhill since then, especially since they got into the modeling stuff. If you’re supposed to be an artist, performances should come before photo shoots. YG has done them a tremendous disservice and it shows.
I think Jenni just got lost in the choreography. People make mistakes and I’m sure there were nervous. I think they looked great on the red carpet! The only big flaw was to much smoke.

The smoke at the end Just ruined the Break dance , We couldn’t even see Rosé and Jisoo + Jennie have some Breathing problems ( Im not sure but she mentioned that she couldn’t run cause she get out of breath really quickly) so Singing & Rapping live and dancing was definitely hard for her But she seemed happy while performing so seing her enjoying the performance is Good
I think their performance on VMA was overall pretty good, but the things that I noticed were the microphone problems, which caused Jennie and Lisa to get unstable. When it comes to the setup and the stage, I think it wasn't thrilling at all. The entrance didnt give so much hype, but again, it's better that we don't expect much

Their performance was sucks. They can’t perform live and dance at the same time unlike other artists. This is their first U.S. award show they have to show their best. But sorry the seem like they’re doing lip sync just singing to the background of their music. The audience don’t know their song so at least the performance should be upscale. Regardless of music or language they did not deliver well. They can’t move and sing at the same time. The back up dancers just overshadow their singing and performance. So many lights and smoke and their company said they spend so much money on this but failed. Still cannot compete with U.S. artists. Their songs are manufactured.
I think because of the little time to prepare for VMA’s, they haven’t prepared much for the stage and the time allocated is very short unlike thier performances in korean award shows they have months to prepare. Also their represented designers probably haven’t created a custom made outfit for them because of the short time to prepare. And lastly, the are singing live that is why they tone down thier dancing. You can clearly see lisa tone down her dancing when she prepare herself from her rapping part.

I actually liked jennie's energy in this performance. She did one mistake at some point, but that was it, yet u keep showing that as if she messed the whole choreo. She is allowed to do mistakes, she is only human. There are some parts when she is not doing the choreo on point, but her heels are way bigger than the other members, so that should also be taken into account. I feel like the moves she did were energetic enough to make up for the ones she didn't and that little mistake. She also sang energetically and tried hyping the crowd with her yell at the end. I actually really liked what they did with the performance. The outfits i agree weren't a good idea. Too simple and black. I also agree with everything about the red carpet looks.
I feel second hand embarrassment for them. Especially after they performed this on the VMAs. I know the crowd was sitting there like😐😐. It's so sad how brainwashed Blinks are too, you can't say anything about it without them harassing you and I've even seen some say this is the best song yet... yikes. This song was awful and they're stuck in this weird copy cat of previous songs sound.
I think BP is really poor performer there first impression at American show is really bad. It seems like they don't create any impact on locals. I'm just a casual fan of kpop but it was really below average. I remember when I attend Grammys last year BTS performance was legendary like the crowd was going crazy at that time they are such an amazing performers and many locals who was setting beside me was surprised by their energy even they got standing ovation from big artist. Jisoo's outfit is really beautiful (best for me) and her hairstyle with earrings looking pretty . Jennie's top of the outfit is good but the bottom one is confusing but all over nice . Lisa's dress is basic and the chain isn't going well with the dress . Rosé's outfit disappoints me expected more but she is looking nice to me . Love them all ♥️
It surprised me when you said that Jennie's energy was off because I didn't notice anything when they were performing. Rather it seemed like Lisa was energetic in her voice and expression but doing very small moves at some point (during the chorus I believe?) but I think she was saving her breath because she was singing. I actually rewatched the performance and for the moment you pointed out for Jennie, I think she forgot the moves and that's why she seemed to stop giving energy, but when she remembers you can see her doing the next move even harder, to make up for it I guess ? Anyways, all of this to say I think she also really tried for this performance and overall I really liked her energy. She looked like she was enjoying herself.
Honestly for me the biggest issue was the lipsyncing:( I really wish they would've sung live. Also there were so many mistakes idk if they practiced enough. :/
I miss when YG artist would go off choreography in award shows and just perform to the audience giving something different. Like Big Bang MAMA performances were just epic. Blackpink was able to kinda do that for Coachella so I wish they were given the same permission as before
I am not a fan of Kpop I first listen to BTS during Grammys performance and I was amazed I always thought why there is so much hype of BTS but after seeing there performance it was clear for me that these men are fucking talented. I don't listen to blackpink often but I was happy that they are going to perform on American show but after seeing there performance it was really poor like it was clear they were lip syncing the whole time and choreography was really weak it seems like they have not prepared well. They are the second kpop group I have seen but they are not even 0.01% close to BTS.
I felt that the direction of the shots was bad, many open shots that didn't focus on the girls when they sang, nor on the strongest moments of the choreography, like I couldn't see any detail of their performance because all the shots were By far, adding to that all that smoke and so many dancers in the back, I think it made the girls lose their leading role, the stage management was poor since its production. And yes, some of the pinks were more nervous, like jennie, she's so good when she's in the right state of mind, it's a pity she can't keep it up sometimes. In short, they could give much more, they are really talented girls
Big brands sponsor Blackpink, and I am a bit disappointed. I could imagine 2ne1 in this, and the stage will just be treated like their own concert. YG used to pay attention to these things and the fact that they have a group that made it global; attention to detail should not be subpar.
I agree this performance is not as energetic as their usual performances in Korea, but I enjoyed this one the most. They look more natural, more relaxed,the choreo is more chill so they can deliver better vocals. It's more like USA style performances, and I personally like it more, performances in Korea often have playback and only the choreo has the spotlight.
Out of YG their stages is so repeating.. they to same moves All to a t... I like when they let loose and actually take control. That's what I liked about YG artist in their stages. Now... It just a typical girl group who songs seriously have nothing on the playing with fire, whistle, stay songs... Tell me otherwise and it pure lies. Sorry but club bangers for 6 years? I mean they don't even own the concept.. their songs can't even have a change.. look at G Idle ... Their songs have a similar song structure but they make it so versatile... The stage was soooo badly coordinated, the smoke was horrible, the girls gave their all but we couldn't see them properly!!! We barely saw Jennie being focused. Too many stage takes, the lightning was atrocious. Poor girls, this was a very important performance and they couldn't make them shine properly. I hope to see them in future performances where they can really show their talents. YG is trash, so, we could hope.
Not their best performance but I can also imagine the pressure they must've felt. Everyone telling them how huge and historical this opportunity was, over and over! Plus this was their first time performing in front of a crowd this size in more than 3 1/2 years. And not just any crowd... but one filled with celebrities and American Icons. I know I personally would've gone mad, lol. The camera work surprised me though. I was expecting a better job from the VMAs. Some of those angles were awful, and didn't highlight some key moments of the choreography well. I guess I too have gotten spoiled by the Korean weekly shows. Specially the by the camera work on their last dance practice, that one was perfect. About the smoke...well. yeah. Anyway I hope that people cut Jennie some slack. I can only imagine what's coming!
The could have changed the backdrop to the lake garden in the Mc or something to give the stage a bit of character and have some water and sand sound before the song started. Even if they couldn’t do much with the stage it would have been cool if the costumes were more jazzed you as they blended with the backup dancers and that smoke is awful. They should have had a raised platform if that much was produced.
Rosé is my bias but I agree with you. She's a beautiful girl and they don't give her justice. That dress was hideous and that hairstyle worse. I don't know why lately in the special they had to put this thing on her, have they tried to make it a "characteristic hairstyle"? 🤦🏻♀️ also the other outfits of the pinks left something to be desired but Rosé's one was the most weird. Poor girls, they slayed the performance. ❤
Rosé already admitted that she does NOT like her hair get done too much so she always requests minimal style only for it because she always bleach her hair and avoid hair damage.
I think Jennie got thrown off after she messed up and that's why her energy went down. As someone who performs on stage, one thing going wrong can sometimes affect you the rest of the performance. However, she bounced back during the bridge, her energy was great during the final dance break.
for Rosé i wasn’t really a fan of either of her looks, i felt a bit disappointed as a Rosé bias and someone who takes fashion as a subject (and very passionate about it). The dress was SO boring, the thing that dangled at the front was sagging the dress (you can see it in videos of them walking) and she had to lift it up a lot to stop her self from tripping on it and it’s strong appearance didn’t suit her soft hairstyle, make-up, facial features and blonde hair (a mismatch overall)… The performance outfit was really reminiscent of her most recent inkigayo outfit; black sleeveless crop top jacket with exaggerated bulky shoulders and black shorts/skirt…
black pink stages is always empty bc the camera works aways make it cool but it's always empty the vma didn't have all the crazy camera wok they do in korea to make the performance good and it's showed that they're lacking
Not tryna just throw up excuses but jennie does have a condition that makes her tired easily and motion sickness. I know most fans say “well that’s no excuse” but if you’ve ever performed like that on stage you’d know it’s f-ing difficult to keep up. She still seemed like she was trying her best and kept on singing live. And I genuinely don’t think live singing is the bare minimum, that ish is energy draining, especially while dancing. Regardless of whether or not it’s your job to do it, it’s still difficult. We as Kpop fans have been “desensitized” (for lack of a better word) to the hard work that goes into being an idol. But another note on the performance it was a little embarrassing, not the girls faults but the smoke covering them up and when Lisa’s hair got stuck in the mic. Also I genuinely didn’t hate their outfits it kinda went with their pink venom concept outfits. I mean roses wasn’t the best but I loved Jennie’s and jisoos. Just my opinion though.

I really really hate Jennie's laziness. All the girls giving their best and 100% throughout the entire performance and suddenly you will caught Jenny dancing like a vegetable. She is only good when its her turn and at front. You will notice that she does her lazy dance when she is at the back. Its unfair for the rest of the members who are working so damn hard.
Not to be too biased, but Lisa's Lalisa stages were better executed. The jimmy fallon and lalisa special stage was everything. From outfit to performance, YG shld let Lisa do the creative directing more for BP stages.
Honestly the girls were drowned in anxiety and it came out in their stage presence. It's like "good morning America" all over again. The clothes did no justice to their performance...they should have gone with something more glamorous. It's the VMAs after all...but I really hope this doesn't bring them down and they continue to perform in shows to feel more comfortable there. As a fan I have seen some incredible performances of Blackpink and I know how much they have to give. This wasn't it.

I actually liked jennie's energy in this performance. She did one mistake at some point, but that was it, yet u keep showing that as if she messed the whole choreo. She is allowed to do mistakes, she is only human. There are some parts when she is not doing the choreo on point, but her heels are way bigger than the other members, so that should also be taken into account. I feel like the moves she did were energetic enough to make up for the ones she didn't and that little mistake. She also sang energetically and tried hyping the crowd with her yell at the end. I actually really liked what they did with the performance. The outfits i agree weren't a good idea. Too simple and black. I also agree with everything about the red carpet looks.

I feel second hand embarrassment for them. Especially after they performed this on the VMAs. I know the crowd was sitting there like😐😐. It's so sad how brainwashed Blinks are too, you can't say anything about it without them harassing you and I've even seen some say this is the best song yet... yikes. This song was awful and they're stuck in this weird copy cat of previous songs sound.

I think BP is really poor performer there first impression at American show is really bad. It seems like they don't create any impact on locals. I'm just a casual fan of kpop but it was really below average. I remember when I attend Grammys last year BTS performance was legendary like the crowd was going crazy at that time they are such an amazing performers and many locals who was setting beside me was surprised by their energy even they got standing ovation from big artist. I think BP only has hype but no real music

Jisoo's outfit is really beautiful (best for me) and her hairstyle with earrings looking pretty . Jennie's top of the outfit is good but the bottom one is confusing but all over nice . Lisa's dress is basic and the chain isn't going well with the dress . Rosé's outfit disappoints me expected more but she is looking nice to me . Love them all ♥️

It surprised me when you said that Jennie's energy was off because I didn't notice anything when they were performing. Rather it seemed like Lisa was energetic in her voice and expression but doing very small moves at some point (during the chorus I believe?) but I think she was saving her breath because she was singing. I actually rewatched the performance and for the moment you pointed out for Jennie, I think she forgot the moves and that's why she seemed to stop giving energy, but when she remembers you can see her doing the next move even harder, to make up for it I guess ? Anyways, all of this to say I think she also really tried for this performance and overall I really liked her energy. She looked like she was enjoying herself.
Honestly for me the biggest issue was the lipsyncing:( I really wish they would've sung live. Also there were so many mistakes idk if they practiced enough. :/

I miss when YG artist would go off choreography in award shows and just perform to the audience giving something different. Like Big Bang MAMA performances were just epic. Blackpink was able to kinda do that for Coachella so I wish they were given the same permission as before
I am not a fan of Kpop I first listen to BTS during Grammys performance and I was amazed I always thought why there is so much hype of BTS but after seeing there performance it was clear for me that these men are fucking talented. I don't listen to blackpink often but I was happy that they are going to perform on American show but after seeing there performance it was really poor like it was clear they were lip syncing the whole time and choreography was really weak it seems like they have not prepared well. They are the second kpop group I have seen but they are not even 0.01% close to BTS.
I felt that the direction of the shots was bad, many open shots that didn't focus on the girls when they sang, nor on the strongest moments of the choreography, like I couldn't see any detail of their performance because all the shots were By far, adding to that all that smoke and so many dancers in the back, I think it made the girls lose their leading role, the stage management was poor since its production. And yes, some of the pinks were more nervous, like jennie, she's so good when she's in the right state of mind, it's a pity she can't keep it up sometimes. In short, they could give much more, they are really talented girls
Big brands sponsor Blackpink, and I am a bit disappointed. I could imagine 2ne1 in this, and the stage will just be treated like their own concert. YG used to pay attention to these things and the fact that they have a group that made it global; attention to detail should not be subpar.
I agree this performance is not as energetic as their usual performances in Korea, but I enjoyed this one the most. They look more natural, more relaxed,the choreo is more chill so they can deliver better vocals. It's more like USA style performances, and I personally like it more, performances in Korea often have playback and only the choreo has the spotlight.
Out of YG their stages is so repeating.. they to same moves All to a t... I like when they let loose and actually take control. That's what I liked about YG artist in their stages. Now... It just a typical girl group who songs seriously have nothing on the playing with fire, whistle, stay songs... Tell me otherwise and it pure lies. Sorry but club bangers for 6 years? I mean they don't even own the concept.. their songs can't even have a change.. look at G Idle ... Their songs have a similar song structure but they make it so versatile... Is it just me or do I expect too much from kpop idols as artist or the real gems are just not in the media eye?

The stage was soooo badly coordinated, the smoke was horrible, the girls gave their all but we couldn't see them properly!!! We barely saw Jennie being focused. Too many stage takes, the lightning was atrocious. Poor girls, this was a very important performance and they couldn't make them shine properly. I hope to see them in future performances where they can really show their talents. YG is trash, so, we could hope.
Not their best performance but I can also imagine the pressure they must've felt. Everyone telling them how huge and historical this opportunity was, over and over!
Plus this was their first time performing in front of a crowd this size in more than 3 1/2 years. And not just any crowd... but one filled with celebrities and American Icons. I know I personally would've gone mad, lol.
The camera work surprised me though. I was expecting a better job from the VMAs. Some of those angles were awful, and didn't highlight some key moments of the choreography well.
I guess I too have gotten spoiled by the Korean weekly shows. Specially the by the camera work on their last dance practice, that one was perfect.
About the smoke...well. yeah. Anyway I hope that people cut Jennie some slack. I can only imagine what's coming!

The could have changed the backdrop to the lake garden in the Mc or something to give the stage a bit of character and have some water and sand sound before the song started. Even if they couldn’t do much with the stage it would have been cool if the costumes were more jazzed you as they blended with the backup dancers and that smoke is awful. They should have had a raised platform if that much was produced.

I think Jennie got thrown off after she messed up and that's why her energy went down. As someone who performs on stage, one thing going wrong can sometimes affect you the rest of the performance. However, she bounced back during the bridge, her energy was great during the final dance break.
for Rosé i wasn’t really a fan of either of her looks, i felt a bit disappointed as a Rosé bias and someone who takes fashion as a subject (and very passionate about it). The dress was SO boring, the thing that dangled at the front was sagging the dress (you can see it in videos of them walking) and she had to lift it up a lot to stop her self from tripping on it and it’s strong appearance didn’t suit her soft hairstyle, make-up, facial features and blonde hair (a mismatch overall)… The performance outfit was really reminiscent of her most recent inkigayo outfit; black sleeveless crop top jacket with exaggerated bulky shoulders and black shorts/skirt…
black pink stages is always empty bc the camera works aways make it cool but it's always empty the vma didn't have all the crazy camera wok they do in korea to make the performance good and it's showed that they're lacking

Not tryna just throw up excuses but jennie does have a condition that makes her tired easily and motion sickness. I know most fans say “well that’s no excuse” but if you’ve ever performed like that on stage you’d know it’s f-ing difficult to keep up. She still seemed like she was trying her best and kept on singing live. And I genuinely don’t think live singing is the bare minimum, that ish is energy draining, especially while dancing. Regardless of whether or not it’s your job to do it, it’s still difficult. We as Kpop fans have been “desensitized” (for lack of a better word) to the hard work that goes into being an idol.
But another note on the performance it was a little embarrassing, not the girls faults but the smoke covering them up and when Lisa’s hair got stuck in the mic. Also I genuinely didn’t hate their outfits it kinda went with their pink venom concept outfits. I mean roses wasn’t the best but I loved Jennie’s and jisoos. Just my opinion though.

I really really hate Jennie's laziness. All the girls giving their best and 100% throughout the entire performance and suddenly you will caught Jenny dancing like a vegetable. She is only good when its her turn and at front. You will notice that she does her lazy dance when she is at the back. Its unfair for the rest of the members who are working so damn hard.

Not to be too biased, but Lisa's Lalisa stages were better executed. The jimmy fallon and lalisa special stage was everything. From outfit to performance, YG shld let Lisa do the creative directing more for BP stages.
Honestly the girls were drowned in anxiety and it came out in their stage presence. It's like "good morning America" all over again. The clothes did no justice to their performance...they should have gone with something more glamorous. It's the VMAs after all...but I really hope this doesn't bring them down and they continue to perform in shows to feel more comfortable there. As a fan I have seen some incredible performances of Blackpink and I know how much they have to give. This wasn't it.
