Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

You made my dream of going to Portugal come true, today I'm still in Brazil, but I really wanted to go one day and live like you, but age is approaching. Today I'm 40 years old, and I don't know if I'll be able to go and work somewhere , because I will have to work to support myself and my wife who has multiple sclerosis, as I think I will only remain in dreams. You could cut the cord board into strips and cover the cracks on the door if it gets extreme cold. Not sure how cold you guys get, so far in Texas we still remain warm. That bedding is so amazing and very cozy. I personally don’t like to sleep with heat on, feels so much better and I can breathe better when it’s cold, and keeps you snuggling😊. Very nice cabinet organizer! You are great at constructing flatpack furniture💪🏻👷🏻♀️. Diego and Frankie are so happy 😄. I get a kick of seeing Albi helping everywhere, João perched in tree like a Snoopy-vulture, and the occasional Simeow sighting being cuddly.
Iwan i love the care you take applying your developing stone masonry skills. You and Carissa are such good practitioners of the skills uncle Nick showed you. You're already pretty good with all manner of mixes and also pointing.
So glad you have the new warmy maytress, duvet, and weighted blanket to keep you warm this winter. Love that you have that gas heater, too.
Not sure if i'm repeating myself, sometime my phone disappears my comment: I like folks comments about filling the gaps in your door with glue, etc., then a layer of fabric. How about if you line the door with (removable) sticky fabric? Maybe you can use double sided sticky tape or 3M adhesive spray for fabric that makes it tacky. Then fit a layer of cork fitted into segments of the door with tacks? With your curtain, that should block out cold and keep in the warms and still be removable for hot weather, yeah?
I got a small WaterDrop pitcher when it came up as an amazon deal, and it's helped mom enjoy more water. She's nearly getting in her 8 cupa of fluid vs 2 or 3 cups before 😮.
You've made such a cozy home for yourselves between your stone kitchen-lounge-office, the cabin bedroom, and your shower/toilet... now with most comforts anyone could want. Beautiful shot of your cabin with the early evening sky.

If you have bubble wrap you can staple that to inside of the door. It stops the wind and insulates against the cold. Ugly but effective! Blessed Xmas to you and yours!

I sleep hot, but I have an English down duvet. It is a necessity in winter because I keep the furnace very low at night. I cocoon in the duvet and sleep like a rock. Getting out of the duvet in the morning, however, is a serious assault to my senses.
***Why not fill in the spaces in the door with wood filler? It would at least stop the breezes.
***Have you ever seen the foam pipe insulation? It comes in flexible tubes that open to wrap around pipes. It also works as a good cold air block at the bottom of doors. Just stretch the opening and attack it to the bottom of the door with a few finishing nails. I use it at my backdoor to block cold air. It's cheap and it works!

Put some cardboard cutouts in the sections of your door to stop the draft, make them a good tight fit and then they will hold in place.

Hello, I noticed that the door has a lot of cracks? One solution would be to place another board outside in their area, this way the cold would no longer enter and they would save a bit of energy.

Lovely video!!!!!! If it were mine I would staple an old blanket covered with a nice fabric on the inside of the bedroom door, add a door sweep at the outside door bottom, and fill in between the outside strips of wood with various different solutions. I love all of your new bedding. I keep asking this question, so perhaps you do not know, but here I ask again...... is your real bedroom going to be the next big project ?????? I hope for a big long porch across the front of both stone buildings that is actually twice as deep as the stone buildings, which will become a huge covered living space that could be enclosed at both ends. And eventually have some kind of three season protection across the front of the porch. Any way that is what I keep dreaming and planning every time I watch these videos. Thank you! Great idea with the blanket! We need to get the driveway done beforehand really as currently we can only get stuff delivered from the road, we will be ordering the roof pretty early next year and our plan is to be able to work on the inside in summer. It’s a tricky balance!

Your bedroom door that you have the curtain over when you sleep don't they sell caulking in your country and you can put that in between the openings so cold don't come through or it's time to make a solid door

Hi Carissa, a very inexpensive way to block the breezy door problem.
White wood glue and fabric. Any fabric, thrifted or new.
Soak it in the PVA glue and place it like wallpaper on the back of your door.
You are artistic, I’m sure you can make it nice.
It a very simple solution to breezy doors.
You could use paper too so long as the glue is on both the front and back of the paper. It ends up looking lacquered…

You could cut some Styrofoam and glue it to the inside of the bedroom door for insulation against the cold air coming in and use the curtain over it. It helps a lot
I was thinking something that would be detachable because I bet it is a welcome breeze in the summer. Maybe something like Styrofoam on cardboard that could be taken off.
