Backpacking & Bourbon: Battling Cold & Rain in Red River Gorge | Daniel Boone National Forest

  • The time finally came where we got to go on a backpacking trip with the legendary David Gray, and his (now ours!) buddy Travis.
We had been itching to get back down to Red River Gorge to do a PROPER backpacking trip, and hit the sights and sounds of Gray's arch, Hanson's point, the Sheltowee Trace, and other picturesque places in Daniel Boone National Forest. Additionally, we hit up the Buffalo Trace distillery on the way down, to grab some trip "essentials" that would create a true Kentucky experience.
We spend two nights in the gorge with David and Travis, battling sub-freezing temperatures and constant rain, yet still managing to have a great time - we love Red River Gorge!
Be sure to check out David's video too, as well as his channel

As always another great video, adventure and review of some great hiking kit. I just bought a hammock to thru hike the AT this year in April. I was on the Lite AF sight and did not see those tarps for sale, those looked on point! Loved the Bourbon as the x factor on the trek! Keep up the solid work and keep posting! Much Respect!

Hello my hiking friends, sincere thanks for sharing another classic fun outing brought to you by
SBO. It looks like you gentlemen had too much fun as usual. As usual, great filming and narrating. It was good to see David, Travis and the two canines. You had some great traveling companions on this outing. All the best to you guys and your families. Take care, be safe and always continue having too much fun. 🤗

Fantastic video, guys! It is so cool to see the hike we did from a different perspective. The way you put together the different clips you both took is really great, and all the various angles makes me anxious to steal (err... reuse!) some of the shots you get. The video was great, but more importantly it was a great hike with a fantastic hiking team. Loved it! Thank you.

Great trip... Great group of people and dogs. Bourbon on the trail can make for a late start in the morning. Batoning the wood does help with the fire burning, especially when it's wet. Jason is a good dude, would love to head out that way to hike the trails with all you guys. Thank you for sharing, take care.

Me and a buddy did a rainy one nighter there over Thanksgiving weekend. Camping at what looks like the same spot as you guys by Hansen's point. It's interesting how many spots to hang you saw, as I was so worried about widow makers there. I'm still learning and may just be overly cautious though. Wondered if you saw some of that too?
Edit: After looking at your video and David Gray's too, you guys def camped in the same spot. Kevin's foot end of his hammock was one of the same trees I used. Good to know I should trust the trees more and not be SOO judgmental, lol.

I've pushed a bear on the trail in november for the thanksgiving hike, and this last time I was down there during new years! Their populations are increasing in the gorge.

Love the gorge. Drug a group of 20 scouts on an 11 slog in the rain there a couple years ago across some swollen creeks. Good ups and downs to be had for sure. Also rain on a tarp is the best sleep sound ever... so jealous.

Hi Lisa. Replacement green buff - sacrificed the original to the Mohican Ohio TH-cam meetup! I bought a new one but it's a different, more bluish, color. But then I realized I actually bought two of the original 'army green' color way back when (no longer available, apparently). It just needs a bit of 'aging' but it should be fine.
