This isn't just taking in a stray little kitten. This is being willing to spend what must have been thousands of dollars to give it a chance at a good life. These guys are heroes
The cost of medical care depends on where you live.
My wife and I rescued a kitten from a hedge, he had his left eye hanging out, he had a skin disease, fleas, internal parasytes and was malnourished and the cost of bringing him back to good health (including the removal of the compromised left eye) was the equivalent of about 300 USD over the course of a year. We live in Eastern Europe.
That was in 2015.
Now he's a handsome 6 kilo tomcat and we love him to bits, as does our CHihuahua.

I was born blind in my left eye..not just _legally_ , but also literally. It has never stopped me doing anything. Whiskers will also be fine, with these beautiful men being his daddies!!!
