my aunt does the same. going to the animal shelter and taking home the cat noone wants. she has a collection of 5 by now. and my mum got one of my aunt's when he wasn't getting along with the neighbour.. or rather the neighbour making a fuss about him being in their garden. and of course as soon as my mum had taken him in... my aunt went to the shelter and got an other one to fill the free spot in the house...

I feel so bad because my cat is black but in the sun you can see that she has a bit of tortoiseshell coloring but she has a lot of bad habits and behavioral problems, my 2nd cat doesn't have these consistent problems and is a full tortoiseshell and is the sweetest. My 1st cat can be affectionate but only to my mom. But it's given me so much stress to deal with my 1st cat when she does those things everyday that over the months I've grown resentment for her and I hate myself for getting so angry with an animal that I want to move out to leave her alone to do whatever she wants. I want to change but I also want her to get better but sometimes she can be so difficult... I don't know if anyone else understands.

I got a cat and had her for almost 17 years. She's been gone for 12 years and I still miss her. Someone posted on my FB page a while back that "cats are jerks". 10 years ago, I adopted a black cat from a rescue, I was his third home. He is 11 going on 2. He has so much personality, is playful and has so much energy. He's very chatty and the most loving cat, it's borderline excessive.😂 He loves being held and gives the best hugs. He sleeps with me at night and is the first one at the door to greet when I get home (in front of 2 dogs). I can't fathom 2 homes passing on him, but their loss is our gain. Hes an amazing little dude! 🐈‍⬛❤️

I got a black female cat that was in the shelter for over a year. No one wanted her because she had a bad habit of chewing on cords. The moment I picked her up, I knew she was meant for me. I coated all the cords in my home with chili oil and gave her a stick to chew on instead. It worked perfectly and she is the most cuddly and affectionate cat I have ever had. It's because over the centuries IGNORANT people have only associated black cats with witches, Halloween and witchcraft so therefore they must be evil creatures. I have a solid black cat that was tossed out by it's owner and almost starved to death before it found my front porch and the food I used to leave out for my neighbor's cats before they moved away (and yes, they did take their cats with them, thankfully!). He was nothing but just literally skin and bones, barely alive. I rushed him to my vet who was shocked that he was still healthy in spite of his condition. Now he is a big, fluffy long haired love bug of a cat and even though he lives indoors with six other rescues, he knows he's special and loves ear scritches.

My life has also been graced with two bonded black brothers, Raven and Pluto. I called the rescue woman and told her I wanted a black cat. She said she happened to have two black brothers, but they couldn’t be separated. I happily took them both. She said the smaller one, whom I named Raven, needed his brother for support because he was shy and nervous. Both of them are wonderful affectionate fellows with very different personalities. I couldn’t love them more. Formerly nervous little Raven has been asleep in my lap for the last hour. Thanks for your video.

A local animal rescue has adoptions every Saturday, and they would post pics of the kittens online on Friday. They had two bonded black cats, a brother and sister. Week after week, month after month, these two were NOT getting adopted, and it broke my heart. After eight months I was like, that's it, and I went and got them. When I took them home I placed their carriers facing each other in the back seat, and at a traffic light I looked back and they had their paws touching like they were holding hands. Just like the cats in this video, mine are two little chatterboxes, never heard cats make the sounds they do. They are just adorable. Black cats get such a bad rap, but these two are such a joy to love and be loved by.

I was adopted by a black cat named Norton. He showed up at my house one evening and decided to stay for another 12 years. After I had to let him go on his journey over the bridge, I was emotionally numb. It took almost a year before I could even think about another cat in my life. I adopted the oldest cat my local shelter had. She was left there by her owner at the age of 15, which I thought was just wrong. On the shelter's website, she was on the very bottom row of pics of adoptable cats. Almost like she was an after thought. I named her Hope and we had almost 4 years together until it was her time to also go over the bridge. She was beautiful, inside & out. Much gratitude and best wishes to this lady for also adopting cats no one wanted.

I adopted a bonded pair of black kittens and named them Phantom and Raven. They were brothers found in a pillow case thrown in a dumpster. They were clinging to one another so tightly I worried they might hurt themselves out of fear. Year after year they grew closer and closer. I had other rescue cats but these two were always together. I would call them one cat with two heads, because they laid together constantly. They were never aggressive unless one thought the other was in danger. They were closer than any creatures I’ve ever know. Inseparable. Maybe because starting out in life all they had was one another. One of the pair, raven, developed an illness and, after a long battle, I was forced to have the vet end his life. Phantom, seemingly healthy, with no apparently illness at all, died less than a week later. I had them cremated and their remains placed in the same box. They were 23 years of age.

It is totally true that we are adopted by cats while we adopt them. My girl had been handed in twice to the shelter. I saw her profile online and decided she was the one - because she really needed help. She hissed and swiped almost everyone and had been mistreated. When I met her she licked my nose. Been 11 years now. She is approximately 16 and still gets the zoomies.

Definitely, If my boy didn't decide that he liked me I don't think we would be as close as we are. Now he follows me everywhere and meows at me, one time he even kept me safe by not letting me go into the alleyway where some kind of drug exchange was happening. He just kept running in front of me and laying down (what he does for me to stop and pet him) he only let me go when I went in a different direction.

I was always a dog person. Having spinal issues, when I thought about it for quite some time I decided to get a cat. There was a left over from a litter, a young cat no longer a kitten that had gone feral. I decided to give him a home. He hid in a closet for 12 days before he came out. I nuzzled his ear with my hand & that was it! I had named him "Kidd" after the 2 kids that helped transport him. I always believed that cats just ignored people. I later added the second part to his name "Kidd Velcro". If I am sitting or laying, he is on me wanting petting. I believe God set him aside for me. We are a perfect fit.

I had a black cat years ago, and it was the only cat I ever had that trained me to play fetch with him. He was really kind and affectionate towards people, but he was a hunter and a fighter by nature, he used to bring in dead prey, rats, lizards, birds, and he would place them in the pantry right next to his canned cat food, like he was saying that he could fend for himself, I guess he believed he was doing his part of the family chores. We had a really deep connection, I never told my mom when I was arriving home, but ten to fifteen minutes before I got there he was already waiting for me. When he died I felt his spirit go right trough me, I felt it. I miss my cat "Bijou" 'till this day.

My Wife eventually talked me into getting a cat almost 40 years ago. With the odd exception of a few months, we have had cats ever since. Every one of them has its own unique personality. I was told, "Cats will forget all about you after 2 weeks". I went on a deployment for over six months, when I came back my cat went NUTS! It was like I was a giant piece of catnip. She knew who I was and as independent as she was, she now would look up at me and in cat-speak ask/demand an "Uppie". If I didn't pick her up sometimes she would just jump up into my arms.

Cats will not forget about a person in 2 weeks, they may if the bond wasn't very close perhaps, or if they were very, very young. Strangely, though, depending on the personality of the cat, they can behave as though they forgot you and don't care you were gone if you leave them for a week or longer, when you return they will refuse to even look at you, and can behave that way for a day or two before they will forgive you. The closer the bond, the more aloof they may be, as they are not happy that you left them, and want you to know. Some cats don't play it "cool" like that though, and will behave happy, like a dog who misses their owner. Cats do not forget anything in 2 weeks, the only pretend to, when it suits them.

We have a black cat named Melina. My wife found her hanging around a local hardware store several years ago. The employees told her she had been there for some time and didn't know where she came from. They would feed her bites of their lunches and let her stay in a shed behind the store. When my wife went to get in the truck to leave, Melina followed her and jumped in, which is probably the smartest thing she could have done. Now, she's always got food and water, sleeps next to our kerosene heater in winter and gets petted all the time.

@@terryadams2652 Cats are not indoor animals, studies prove that the everyday cat travels over 3 miles whenever outside.
That's genetic, you can't teach that, also they have fur. Fur is to protect animals from the enviroment.
My cats were allowed outside, they died of old age. But they went outside whenever they wanted and was allowed to stay inside whenever they wanted. Sometimes you wouldn't see them all day, but they would always come back happy and healthy because they was getting the correct amount of exercise.
Same with dogs, they are outdoor animals, hence why their fur will go bad if they're stuck indoors too long. Same goes with cats, they need the outside climate, not indoor heated climates. It's okay to have your cat indoors, but they need to spend time outside and get their healthy 3 miles of exercise each day.
The normal cat whenever outside will hunt and chase rodents and birds, climb buildings, protect their territory and engage with other cats. Remove that from a cat and it's no longer living how it's suppose to be.
More proof that cats are outdoor animals. My cats would ASk to go outside because they did not like staying inside all day.

I had a black cat that I named Coalby. She had a very dark coal color to her coat with very faint stripes. Both of her parents were tabby cats. She had a grey sister as well. She was a very bright personality, and I had given her to a friend who gave her to a neighbor. The neighbor was relocating and couldn't take her, so I took her back, but her momma didn't. I fed her once on my desk, and after that, she just expected it there. I gave her to a cousin, and after 13 years, her health was going downhill, so they put her to sleep. My cousin said that she was their all time favorite cat, and I can agree.

I had a rescue cat named CoCo (after the Chanel fashion line) who said "momma". If I went outside, to the basement, or grocery , etc, I had to tell her goodbye, because my son told me she looked everywhere and screamed loudly "momma momma momma" over and over and became very distressed, anxious and inconsolable if i didn't. She would watch me mow the lawn from inside the house, and followed every step I took. I guess that was her way of thanking me for saving her from being euthanized. She died 10 years ago due to a vets negligence and misdiagnosis. I miss her so much. CoCo, I'll meet you and all the my other pets (at least 50 or so!!!) at Rainbow Bridge. I have cancer and have faith animals are there, as their souls are pure, devoted, selfless and loving. See you soon, CoCo, save me a spot on the porch swing!!

We lost our cat of 20+ years early this past November, we told ourselves we’d wait for a few months to decide if we wanted to get another one. That resolution lasted about a month, just before Christmas we adopted a beautiful, black cat of about 12 years who has been in the orphanage for nearly 11 years. He’s all black, even his whiskers and he has beautiful topaz-yellow eyes, he’s very sweet but kind of skittish, he was adopted out twice but returned both times. He has no worries now, we’ve had so many cats and infinite patience for their quirks and personalities, he’s found his forever home at last.

Sheba was sitting on a chair at the table with us when she suddenly jumped off her chair mewed and jumped up to her put her paws on Jane’s chest and planted her mouth on Jane’s mouth and then sat on her lap. She really understood that there was something wrong and was going to try to console her. Which she did. She went to Rainbow Bridge in Feb 2019 and I will always miss her. My best to you. He said no not that she has a cancer in her ear has to be putbto sleep! I said no its just yesterday it happened no its not going to happen he said i can call the police if you leave, its under animal welfare you signed a form that gives me the right, you cant take this animal out of here now ive decided! With no exam apart from looking in her ears he took poor katy from me and called a woman to hold her i complained that i wanted another person to see her he said either she stays and i put her to sleep tomorrow or now, only choice i go home in ten minutes. I had no choice on my own, wishing id never gone there, the door was locked and the woman stood by it, they put her to sleep in my arms, i took her little body home, on three buses felt helpless. I wrote to head office but got a reply saying it must have been in the animals interest no never again will i go there support them or give to them. @outerrim It’s all about their individual personality. Their black fur does get very hot in the sun, but they are clever enough to lay in the shade. Sometimes, they’d lay in full ☀️ sun which surprised me. Cause they’d be so hot. As long as they were happy. Or nearly scald themselves by sitting too close to the 🔥 fire, but very happy babies. At 1 point I had 7 cats including 4 rescue’s. You REALLY have to be dedicated to caring for them. Clean their ears regularly, trim their cuticles. Don’t go passed “the pink”, that has blood vessels and nerves. Trim the Edges. Firstly gently stroke their feet, gently play with their toes for SHORT periods, to get them used to having their toes held and having their cuticles trimmed
That’s where the phrase “cut to the quick” comes from. Picture a human nail…we only trim,or file, off the “free nail edge” We don’t cut back to where the nail is growing on top of the nail bed, as its Bleeds and it HURTS ! Hope that helps anyone attempting to trim claws. Also please make sure they have a tall up right cat scratching post and always lots of flowing water. I got a cheap cat Water Fountain, as cat’s will drink more water ifs it moving, like from the kitchen tap. I kept throwing out bowls of 💦 water. Wow, it really worked, they all drank much more which was brilliant and buy big cheap bottles of still water. They drank a lot more. It also lessens the amount of time the water fountain will need to be throughly cleaned by using bottled water. Believe me, IT WILL NEED CLEANING xxx

My friend always had dogs, but ended up with a cat after his cousin passed away from Cancer. His cousin had three cats - two of them were kittens and were easy to rehome. The woman at the rescue asked him to keep the older cat because they are harder to adopt. He has had Molly, who is a black cat, for over a year now and absolutely loves her. She also plays fetch like the cats in the video.

As someone who had a black feral Mom show up on my back door with her four black kittens a couple months ago, I can certainly relate to becoming a mid-life cat person. A few days ago, another one - pretty sure it’s the Daddy, started coming by as well. So I went from taking care of zero to 6, very quickly - tho because they’re feral, I guess they adopted me instead. Thx for your story!

These two look just like my Chester! Who is also very talkative, sweet, playful, smart... and also does the air chomps! Also... an accident. Lol
He was an outside cat when we bought our house. We built him a home on the wrap around porch. But, he was hurt. His tail had been broken off, but there was more bone left, than remaining tissue to heal around it. So every time it tried to heal, it just tore back open. Long story short, we took him for surgery, and they were able to tuck it, like you do a dog's tail. But a week long recovery inside, turned into a month... turned into a lifetime bond. He is now a very healthy, active 11 year old guy 🙂We got him a friend, to keep him young and happy. Little Stevie. We got her at 5 months old. Everyone who took her before, brought her back. I was even told that I could bring her back, if she was not what I was expecting. But, I saw her, and knew she was ours. And, that is what we wanted. One that no one wanted, that kept being thrown away. So they would never have to be rejected ever again!
She is now just over a year old, grey and white mink like fur. They have been so great for one another. Perfect, really. And they love each other so much! Chester is a little guy. So even at 11 years old, and she at only 1 year, they are the same exact size. Lol
(Wow... didn't mean to go on that long tangent... so sorry. Lol)

My Zulu was really loyal & protective of our other pets. Once he fought off a Doberman Pincher that came after another of our cats. And another time he fought off a huge roaming dog that came into our yard to attack our own dog. Zulu was brave & fearless. (p.s. Zulu was not harmed in fighting off those dogs, as I also intervened to save him)

This is a VERY unusual cat. Not only well behaved, but incredibly intelligent. He is so luck to have so many toys to play with, which helps improve his mind. My mother's cat was half Angora, sweet, and intelligent---pawing the doorknob to get out. We had a black cat, too, but his only trick was taking a nap! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video. Thank your daughter for being so perceptive and wise.

    • @lisar3944
      @lisar3944 ปีที่แล้ว

It's very unusual for a cat to be well behaved and intelligent?! Not in my experience. In 40 plus years as a cat mom, I've only ever had one truly dumb cat. He was taken from his momma way too young and just never matured properly. He was very sweet, just dumb as a post (think jumping on top of the lit wood stove, burning his feetsies, then doing it again a few weeks later - he would burn his feet several times every winter). I've also never had a badly behaved cat. Sure they get the zoomies from time to time, and you have to teach them boundaries, but if you put in the effort, they do actually listen and learn. "stop" is always the first lesson, but they pick up what other words mean too, if you are consistent and treat them with respect. Treats and words of praise help instill certain behaviors, too.
If you want a "bad" cat, bully them and/or don't give them much attention. It's not rocket science.

I also was a dog person, I had Siberians for 35 years, then one day I befriended 3 stray cats that were coming around in February of 2019. One was pitch black and the other two was brown/gray Tabbies, very common cats. I didn't know the sex of any of them, but by June of that year I did. The black cat was a female, she brought 5 beautiful pitch black kittens up onto my deck for me to see. I quickly got them into a crate with food and litter, a kitten rescue came and got them the next day, they were about 5 or 6 weeks old and eating canned wet food. Fast forward to October of the same year, mommy brought me 3 more babies that were appx 2 weeks old, the babies were brown/gray Tabbies this time. One of the males actually came to my backdoor and kept meowing until I followed him, he took me to where mommy was all curled up with the babies. So I took the babies and brought them into my house and placed them in the middle of the kitchen floor, so mommy could hear them crying and would try to get them back. But I left the door open, I hid behind the door, mommy snuck in to get them, but when she came in I closed the door behind her. She tried to get out but I showed her the babies so she came to them and snuggled with them and calmed down and started to nurse them. So needless to say I fostered these cats with the intention of spaying and neutering all of them and finding them homes. I had them all fixed, shots and FIV checked...all was good. As I fostered these cats I grew to love them, so much so that they never left, all 4 are my treasured pets and companions to this day. I have treated them like dogs, so they do tricks, fetch balls and hair ties as I shoot them through the air and bring them back on command. They understand everything I say to them and have my routine down pat, so I have learned to love and respect cats as they are clever and smart more than I ever knew. Cats are the new dog for some people, I'm one of those people..... :)

Thank you for adopting 2 together! Beautiful Balk cat! My first cat was also a black one! My husband picked from the street to bring home. I was a dog-favor person and did not anything about cats then. She was so bright and so lovable when she came to my house. Then, I started learning more about cats, and the more I knew about her, the more I fell in love with her.🥰
Then I got 2 Russian blue brothers from Bleeder and fell in love. And One day, a homeless male cat came to my front porch, I started feeding him. One day, he cried so hard at my front door. Guess what? he brought his girlfriend's cat and asked me to provide her the food. They were always together on my porch and ate together. A couple months later, guess what? The girl cat brought me cute kittens One by One to bring to my front door. Total of 3 kittens. I already had 4 cats inside of my house. But I was trying to rescue all, including mom cat. I took them to the vet, and after 8 weeks, I tried to take a showcase at Pet Mart for the adoptions. But No one adapted. So, here I am adapting the entire family except for Daddy Cat. I really liked his personality, but I could not find him anywhere.
However, 10 years since then, I still have all of them together; they are my family! Mommy cat still cares for them, kissing and sleeping together, and they think they are still kittens.
I hope many people will find how sweet and lovable cats are and adopt homeless cats to find a lovely home for them. 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻💝

I have no idea what he was saying but I often imagined that he told me about every bird and cat that wandered past the house and whether or not he'd seen my Mother go by or not. He was a delight... I miss him so much. And Darth (the cat I didn't want... but got anyway) like you the two were brothers... Obi and Darth... Obi was a beautiful gray on gray... with a swirl on the side... gorgeous cat... that was the one I wanted... but they asked if I'd take them both... and I said I didn't want another black cat... but I decided what the heck right? What is one more... he could be the kids' cat... I'd have obi... Well HA laugh is on me... Obi didn't want anything to do with me... Darth however followed me EVERYWHERE. He talked too... Not only saying Mom, but Out, No and Help... which he also knew how to use... he was super smart and did tricks all the time... like shaking hands, sitting up, talking, giving kisses, high fives... about anything you asked of him... all for attention... which he craved.

I thought all shelters did this until I went to adopt my now nearly adult cat, Miso, and asked, "is he pair bonded with any of them?" He had four siblings so I thought it was a fair question but the worker said, "We don't do that here." I was very confused for the next 30 minutes but was too distracted by my new kitten to think about it past that.
It ended up being a good thing because Miso HATES cats. Even in the shelter, he was ignoring his siblings that were trying to play with him and just kept staring at me, which was really weird because he was only a tiny kitten at the time. He's fine with the smell of other animals but the second he sees another cat inside a house (he's too scared to go outside but I'm working on it), even if we are at a friend's house and it isn't his territory (he's comfortable in any space so it isn't an issue about being somewhere unfamiliar), he starts hissing and puffing up. Guess the little guy got fed up with his siblings and decided he wasn't dealing with cats anymore.

The neighbors got together and made shelter for them with blankets and everyone brings food for them. All got fixed, yey! I still stop by and see how everything is and drop off some food for them to the lady that owns the home. It was the neighbor of hers that started with one cat and now about 7 or so. She did get help and got all of them fixed with anti cruelty society, but the rest will live there, too wild to tame since they are older.
