    how come that a completely circular dynamic driver can produce sounds that sound like they're coming from different directions in movies and games? It clearly has a difference when you swap the left and right chanels.

    The first etymotic in ear for medical research had the drivers in a box and then a long sound tube like that. Look for ER-1.

    Look up Bauer Binaural Method. There are plugins for this and is built into the crossfeed settings of the RME ADI-2 series.

      @@sharuraudio Not true in this case. There are multiple vents at the back, there's basically zero noise isolation, and there's a lot of sound leakage. It's like an open back headphone.

      it probably bounces chaotically so many times on the way to the ear that most of the difference from changing the direction/shape of the tube gets cancelled out

    People need to realize the "soundstage" in IEMs is just the sound effects and reverberations in the audio itself. The resolving performance in the IEM and source, and the airy frequencies can also improve the percieved stage size.

    Wasn't the vents and openness help instead of driver location? The latter might help with distortion I think, not soundstage/width.

      I don't think that's it. Most can't differentiate closed and open-back headphones in blind tests without the outside noise.

    Wide soundstage can he expected with hi res earphones, headphones? I was wondering about the same and does cx 180 have wide soundstage? I had philips and pioneet hi res earphones that sounded better than steelseries and coesair headphones amd i have a g6 dac as well

    You know this may be true but since I only use over ear headphones, it's a completely different story there. The differences there in soundstage are not huge but noticeable

    Look sharur if you want widest soundstage
    Just plug the Moondrop Quarks DSP eartips just half in the ears
    Don't make any seal let the eartips sit little outside of ear

    Even though the superior way to listen to music are IEMs, we also use our ears and head to track the sound around us
    It's impossible to create a perfect spacial audio with IEMs and headphones like so anyways, so why bother for it just for music

    You fail to account for the fact that the human brain is very malleable and if you 'simulate' a response that a room might give you, you will fool the brain into forming a mental map of a 3D space. Im not saying its correct, im saying enjoyable and can give the effect of an out of head experience.

      Yes, but that's not the point, he's arguing about the possible effects on soundstage created by the driver's distance to the ear canal, which are none. The soundstage only comes from the way the FR is and from the recording itself.
