    Ritchey have made nice looking stems for years, even their budget range. You can usually find one that matches the style of your bike and they never look out of place. Looking forward to seeing the Look Blade bike profile video!

    What a timely video. I just had a carbon stem crack. Very freaky as I watched the crack develop over the last 10 miles on the way home. Got a nice new one out of aluminium.

    I have always used alloy stems while always checking the insides for any rough edges ( that may need to be sanded smoothed down) prior to installing on carbon steerer's and handle bars. One of the reasons why I use the alloy stems is that I use the cup hand over hand hold on top of the stem-handlebar juncture point so this puts more pressure on extension. I use this hold technique on the bike as it gives me more of an aero comfortable position but also allows me to sit further back on the saddle thus more comfortable spinning riding. It's a very weird hold on the bike but works great for my cycling body position.

    Off topic, but would be interesting to see discussion of tubeless tires and the mechanics of set up and maintenance. Specifically thinking for Gravel and Mountain bikes.

      I’ve done tons of videos on tubeless. Tell me more of what you’re looking for

      Seems that road bike tire pressures may not be conducive to tubeless, due to higher tire pressures. Gravel and mountain bikes run at lower pressures, so may be more effective at maintaining the new seal from the sealant. Issues of losing the seating of the bead on tubeless, if out on road, trail and difficulty of re-seatting, compared to tubes. General discussion of the mechanics of tubeless set up and the maintenance. Why did your road tire end up with dried out globs of sealant, is this typical or is that a product, or maintenance issue?

    I use Ritchey C260° with Ritchey handlebar both WCS and aluminum. It's quite difficult to install c260 into the bar first-time but finished with tidy looks. I also use WCS aluminum seatpost too. I don't see necessarily splashing money in carbon components.

      You are correct! Most aluminum components provide the exact same performance at a fraction of the cost! Thanks for watching please consider subscribing

    I think these Ritchey stems tend to look better on more modern box shaped tubes like carbon n certain aluminum frames. For skinny round steel tube bikes I like to go with slimmer rounder stems if that makes sense. Ritchey used to make a stem were the 4 face plate bolts were so close together they were almost touching real sleek design which I have on my logic 👍🏻

      Yes I understand. They were looking for that look on this stem.

    Very nice George.. I always use aluminium stems to..deda Superleggero RS is my fave I have 120mm on 2 of my bikes.. only weighs about 100g - 110g not that I’m a weight weenie but very light I think.. like the clamp on the Ritchey.. great to learn about all the Ritchey products George the chicane stem also looks interesting 😊 Pete 🚴‍♀️🚴🏻👍

      I either ride 110 or 120 George based on the frame and feel, I ride a 120 on my SSE a 110 on my condor Acciaio and a 120 on my Genesis Volare also use a 100 for my Croix de fer gravel bike.. I started out a long time ago on 100 but always felt a little cramped and I have a short inseam with a slightly longer torso so feel that the extra reach feels right for me 😊 Pete

    Hi George, nice to see how you build up another nice Ritchey rim brake! Regarding the whole market tendency to disc brake, I just consider buying a rim brake bike for comparison in addition to my disc bike.. what are your thoughts on very long alpine descents with great wheels/ rim brake combo? Are there some drawbacks in comparison to disc brake systems (performance or modulation) from your experience as I see you do a lot climbing on your Ritcheys! All the best Fabio

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Fabio I don’t where you live in the world but I don’t know why people think an alpine descent is anything difficult, challenging or dangerous. We have massive mountains here in California 15 mile, 20 mile, 25 mile descents 6400 feet drop I don’t even think about it as I descend them on my rim brake bike. If you’re riding shitty brake calipers and shitty rims or shitty brake pads or god forbid riding carbon rims which is especially stupid then sure someone might have reservations riding rim brakes.

      @@SeeYouUpTheRoadThat really helps. Thanks for the reply! I guess the concerns come from the internet forum advice from all the experts who only trust the marketing bullshit. That is why Im here I think asking. Only had experience with disks, but will trust you for sure and test rims as I love the ease and cleanliness about them. Im on a biking trip in 3-4 weeks. Will choose a rim brake setup now for travelling!

      @@fabfab1949 it’s all absolute marketing bullshit. But again don’t buy a shitty rim brake set up or it will suck. I out-brake and out descend disc brake bike riders all the time. But I run Dura-Ace Brakes, Kool Stop pads and alloy wheels. Don’t ride carbon wheels they have horrible braking in the dry and downright dangerous braking in the wet. And that’s why people say Disc brakes are better because they are thinking of when they rode carbon wheels with rim brakes yeah of course that sucks! I would never ride carbon wheels with rim brakes!

    Is having more of the bar craddled in the circle to protect the handlebar? I think carbon stems are a waste of 💰

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes the larger the pocket the better. Yep you can spend 2X or 3x more on a carbon stem and not get 2X or 3X performance out of it.

      MTB people usually use much shorter stems. I don’t know how short they go.

    The absolute weight weenie stems might be made out of carbon for a few grams of weight savings, but some of the cheaper aluminum stems are among the lightest. Kalloy Uno is known for being cheap and light, and graphics can be removed with acetone if one prefers. I like my Ritchey stem, went from a 220 classic to an older style classic after I decided I had overcorrected on length dropping to 70mm. The handling wasn't actually that bad, a bit wonky climbing far back on the drops, but that was about it.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@redkeyspoke yep there was a time when I used to run Syntace stems. High quality company from Germany 🇩🇪 their alloy stems were lighter than high dollar carbon stems.
      I was a weight weenie. And like a reformed smoker, they are the worst in regards to how strongly they now swing the other way 🤣
