  • As we continue forward progress on the house, unexpected cost are popping up for building code requirements such as installing 2 inch foam board inside the foundation for energy efficiency are used to pay $21 per sheet for 2 inch foam board a few years back now it is $60 a sheet same material
    Thank you for choosing to watch our channel and the progress we have made so far on our 52 acre farm. We enjoy making upgrades to the property whether it's access roads, or installing large and small, barns, equipment, storage buildings, running heavy equipment, and giving a home to a miniature pony and miniature donkey. We like to give others ideas of how we operate things on our property. We don't claim to be professionals, but we like to share our opinion and views. we are very much open for suggestions or opinions in a respectful manner to further our progress, on making things safer for us in the future. We thank each and every one of you for your input and continued support through this journey!

    I cant believe how much building materials have gone up! Id be interested in how much energy that actually saves. My wife is in favor of a warmer house so it would be worth it around my house

      Yeah, I often wondered myself how much it actually helps. I’m sure some engineer figured it out somewhere. 🤣

    I used 1.25 poly and pushed my 1” pex into it from the outside of my hole to the water heater. I also placed 1.25 poly where I put 3/4 pex in the slab. Good work man!

    Your home project is coming along nicely, Tom! It's a good idea to add the foam insulation. I 💯 agree with you about the cost of material. With my main job, I have to follow metrics like inflation. The government wants us to believe inflation is in the 3 to 4% range, when in reality it is at least 8% for consumers. I am really enjoying following your home build project. Thank you for sharing with us. Have a great weekend, buddy 👍

      Thank you very much ! I agree with you. There is a lot of smoking and mirrors going on right now in our economy gonna be a very interesting election. It’s funny all of my suppliers in my daytime job told me the last couple years the inflated prices were temporary due to supply and demand issues. I just got an email today. My hot water tank prices are going up another 7% so I guess the Covid pricing stuck and the increases are coming again 🤦🏻‍♂️. Hope you too. Have a great weekend.

    • @OpenAirAdventure
      @OpenAirAdventure 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fatefarmspa yes. With everything. Our provincial government charges us 15% tax on everything, and the feds have us taxed crazy on fuel, which brings the price of everything up. Right now we are paying 45% tax on fuel and starting April our prime minister is adding another 16% carbon tax on fuel. He has the entire middle class broke, worse prime Minister in history.

      Kenny, do they build like this in your area?

    • @OpenAirAdventure
      @OpenAirAdventure 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @oakiewoodsman not the block, but the process is the same using concrete. We use engineered slab or slab on grade. Slab on grade is the most popular. It's very similar to what Tom is building. Footer, four-foot frost wall, and insulated slab, three pours.

    The cost of all building material has skyrocketed in the last 4 years. Newer homes are being built way more energy efficient and air tight. So, tight that if you fart, you smell,it for a week lol.

    • @fatefarmspa
      @fatefarmspa  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it’s unbelievable how much everything has gone on I know I don’t make 100% more in my wages within the last four years🤣. what is crazy for one of the requirements before they give me an occupancy permit? They actually are vacuum testing the house to test for air leaks on the exterior of the building.
