Very simply, it's cheaper to make a new window than to try to salvage the old. These demolition companies often are willing to let someone salvage what they can before the structure is pulled down. But it's rarely worth anyone's time to do it. The cost of an ordinary size, basic window is about a hundred dollars or so. Taking a window frame out of the rough opening in such a way that it can be re-used requires a good deal of careful labor. And still the result is usually not all that good. The only time it makes sense is when there is something specially valuable about the window. A window with leaded panes of antique glass might well be worth salvaging. But then you're not looking at a hundred bucks, but perhaps a couple of thousand.

@@louisc.gasper7588 the price of materials these days is making new construction home purchases completely impossible for people that could afford to do so just 2 years ago. Homes like this one in so many places have seen an almost 50% increase in value because of this. Destruction of a home like this means one more family will have to stay living in an expensive apartment for the rest of their life.

      I can relate to that
They bought out a huge part of the east side (residential area)
      You know people's homes.
They gave residents a huge payout for their homes, so construction could begin.
      That was in 2011
Nothing has been done yet, it's 2021.

No one knows why this was torn down, but I don’t think it’s a newer home. I saw galvanized piping, which puts that house in 50s at least. Brick walls and no insulation , no basement. The porch looked newer, but that’s it. As far as salvaging, you can’t have people go into houses and rip out rafters and things, not with the litigation society we have.

As a demolition worker in Japan this is just sad to see. Typically we remove all windows and everything like siding, roofing, metals, and wood are kept separate during the demo process. What can be taken by hand is done before the yunbo begins. The way this person is just crushing and mixing everything is like a complete amateur. The ceiling still has board and insulation which should be taken before any other demo begins on this house. The ceiling board should never become wet as it will melt down and mix into the earth. Why is the ground staff not separating any materials?! I Would never use a company like this. I can only imagine the cost of disposal. Disposal becomes cheaper if it is all separated as some items can be recycled or repurposed.

I have seen how the Japanese do their demolition and it is innovative and impressing. That being said, there are 100 ways to skin a cat and you cant deny how quick this is. That house is demolished in 3 hours and loaded out in trucks in one day, pulling slab and foundations the next day. Time is money, and their is not a lot of material to send to the dump. The the time you are saving by demolishing in 3 hours offsets your tipping fees for sending mixed loads to the dump. If you send in a crew of guys to gut and salvage its going to cost you in labour wages and consumables plus you need to have a place to store old junk you salvaged from the house plus your bin fees for the different C+D materials you seperated by hand. If you are tearing down a big industrial building then yes I see where it is smarter to take your time, separate your materials and do a full interior demolition + roof strip. These guys aren't amateur's, the operator just tore a house down around a chimney and left it standing. If you are a demolition worker I know you understand how unpredictable brick can be. That's just how house demo's are done in Canada and the USA. Its a different culture where people pretend to give a shit about the environment and yet they are all driving around in big gas guzzling trucks and SUV's.

@@mattd6190 We just have very different rules here compared to the western world. Theirs always a first company on site at every demo site checking for mixed materials as a majority of disposal sites simply won't accept it. You either told to return it to the company office and have it separated by the staff there or pay a steep fee and the disposal site workers will separate it for you.
All demo sites from a house to an apartment complex and anything in between in gutted by hand beforehand and it shouldn't take a small team of 2 demo workers and 2 cleaning staff roughly 3 or 4 days to to gut everything in a house have it fully cleaned and separated. The money you get from selling metal is more than enough to cover the wage of those workers.
I understand what you mean about the brick chimney, but just seeing him smash everything is something I've only ever seen done by amateurs companies in this country and it's not long until they can't get any new work and go out of business. I have actually never seen a house demo done by a excavator used the way this guy did it. There could be 2 reason why and one of them being the work area. Either way smashing the roof in is never the starting place.
If you're curious about the demo process in Japan for excavator or by using hand I am happy to send some clips from my companies upcoming work sites.

@@datrumate7375 I don't know about the demo of US or CAN, but that fee is always included with the demo cost. You make extra money for the company by collecting and selling the metals which usually becomes employees bonus pay.

This house is being Demolished probably because a person who grew up in the house has terrible memories of being abused, raped, molested, beaten, and now has the means to destroy those memories.
We just never know the reasons.....

50 people (all relatives) stood at a distance, and watched as a bulldozer brought down grandma and grandpa's house in the country.
Don't know what was goin on in the minds of the others, but I was a little sad.
I had memories of that house
Some good, some bad, but they were my memories.
It was explained to me at a later time, the reason for knocking it down.
    Liability lawsuits.
The house was torn down in the case of people going in and getting hurt.
How an empty old house would hurt anyone is anybody's guess.
But, that's why it was done.

    • @jgrefphenreed71
      @jgrefphenreed71 2 ปีที่แล้ว

If the home was condemnedable, then yes people could get hurt. If no one; which it sounds like they didn't, live in it you have the issue of squatters. If something were to happen to them, you would be liable even if they trespassed.
