I think so many people have changed their perspective this past year. At some point people realize that having the most luxurious car on their street is not what makes you rich. Neither is the million dollar house. Rich is happy. Rich is appreciating what you have. Rich is loving and sharing. Rich is treating people like you want to be treated. Rich is not monetary, it's a feeling and all the things you listed give us those feelings.
You've learned some very wise lessons at a very young age. You have a gift and are gracious enough to share it. You are rich! 🌹
And since the pandemic started, I feel rich now that I can buy "good" toilet paper again. Oh yeah. 🙂

If you don’t have someone to share whatever you have in life, makes you feel so poor. I live by myself no friends, no family in the US. All I do is work. I feel so lonely. So I will add to your amazing video, having your family &/or true friends make you feel rich (happy - complete). Thank you and blessings for you and your adorable family and everyone reading me.

I took a huge pay cut in 2013 and it has remained almost the same to the penny. I am so with you. I had to change how I'm living NOW, and live off of this income instead of continuing to live as I had before. I sure miss it. But, that is real life. I have sheets and towels I love and I just drag the sheets off the bed, into the washer, back on the bed. One set you love is better than 10 you hate.

    • @jennysjourney02
      @jennysjourney02 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@yesiownfrodo I lost my job several months after I posted this comment so I get it and only use the same two or three quality sheets, depending on the weather.
One of them is from Costco that are my favorite.
My income has changed too and not getting as much. I'm working towards that income again but realize it'll take time. I'd still rather save money for quality sheets and towels than have to buy cheap ones again after a year.
Good luck to you and hope you get back the income you lost. It's tough but you have the knowledge and discipline to do it.

Living below your means is the first and most important advice I give to younger couples!! I was blessed to be able to buy a beautiful but modest house when I was 24 and single with one tiny dog. Since then, a husband, 2 (going on 3) kids, and another dog have moved in. The house is getting small and we've considered a bigger house so many times, and honestly we could afford a nice place in our ridiculously expensive city. But being comfortable financially has done so much for our marriage and family/personal peace. The extra bedrooms or bigger yard just isn't worth the stress. We're able to live comfortably, not worry when expenses come up, eat organic, be generous, and save a nice safety net without feeling the strain. Buy a safe, heavy car but don't make it fancy. Buy the good quality upgrades for your house when you need them, but don't install a pool or $10,000 piano you won't use. No one needs $900 shoes. The peace you'll feel saving that money is worth ALL the material stuff and more.

When we got rid of our debt, we started putting what we were paying each month debt wise into a savings account and kept living on that budget (so was below our means) and when we look at the bank now we have such a pleasant surprise. It really helps put our minds at ease knowing we have that money if something happens.

In 2013 I had a stroke at work. This resulted in a big loss of wages and rather an identity crisis (who was I without my career?). This was an excellent video. You should be a guest on Dave Ramsey. This was wonderful. For me, I feel rich when I have cash in my pocket, just $5 of wiggle money is enough. To me, that makes a big difference so that I don't feel stifled by my budget. Access to beautiful music and art makes me feel richer than a Vanderbilt. I agree with you on amazing coffee. It's worth the effort. I try to make time to just sit and be grateful. Gratitude is something no one else can do for you, and that no one can prevent you from doing. I so agree on the pajamas!! I have a set that is the pajamas and the robe and I feel like a star when I wear them. LOL And I'm single. I do it for me.

Now later into my 30's I really relate to these things, what makes me feel rich are simple but quality things. I bought matching Pjs last year instead of old clothes! lol. I’m not rich or well paid or overly comfortable that I don’t have to watch my spending BUT we have a nice home ( could be bigger could do with renovations but I’m happy), a car (paying it monthly but again it’s safe drives well looks good and will last us another few years), food in cupboards, eat out or cinema once a money as a family (offers/take our own treats etc) and we have nice clothes & shoes that we wear until the kids grow too big and/or they are worn. I am happy living like this & teaching my children they can’t have everything now & we have to work hard to pay for nights out, nice clothes & furnishings. Kids should be taught this x

What makes me feel rich is when I buy 2 or 3 sets of bed sheets that are so soft and awesome to the touch that I don't want to get out of bed. Makes me feel like I'm in a luxury hotel. Also my Clinique face creams. I can't use anything with fragrance in it so this is something I have to use. And my shower time is important to me. But my bath gel or soaps can smell good but not linger on my body due to my sense of smell is very sensitive. Not to picky on toilet paper so I'm good there.

I appreciate some of these tips. Especially the debt-free, clutter free and capsules wardrobe. But for some things, I prefer feeling more green than more rich. Bamboo TP makes me feel good. Shopping local feels good snd makes one a healthy participant in the community. Some tips aren’t doable for some since a reasonable salary is not available to so many. I like your ending. I visited a small town in Mexico a long time ago and was impressed with how happy the seemingly poor people there were. They had each other. They were rich in family and community.

About the nice toilet paper... I bought a bidet. They aren't expensive (I spent $30-40), they are better for the environment, and are super luxurious. Plus they save you all that money not buying toilet paper, making you actually richer. To dry off, just make your own cloth toilet paper

I definitely agree that buying from small businesses is so much better. The products r higher quality and so is the customer service. They really appreciate your business. I’ve especially found that if u want high quality handmade, reusable and sustainable products, Etsy is the place to shop. Since Covid, I’ve changed the things that I’ve purchased bc so many things r missing in the stores. I just bought handmade reusable makeup pads to take my eye makeup off from Etsy., it came in a cute bag with a handwritten note. Also, people in other countries r really struggling to make ends meat and their only means of support is to sell their talent in making things. It makes me feel really good when I know that I’m helping someone out that is struggling to provide for their family.

This evening I started watching your tips for happiness, which reminded me that I’ve been meaning to declutter my desk for months and I suddenly felt motivated. As I was getting stuck in I was glad that auto play was showing a few of your organisation videos then this one (which is also relevant to my stage of life). As I was putting things away I found myself organising other parts of my bedroom too. Man, I feel happy and proud of myself! Thanks for the inspiration Kallie. Just stumbled upon your channel today and have happily subscribed.

I thought of one. Have a cozy corner in your home whether it be the bedroom or the living room or another room where you have a comfy chair, a nice lamp and a stack of good books where you can curl up and just read or enjoy your coffee. Just a cozy corner.

Thank you for sharing how to budget paying down debts. January I've paid off one large debt, now working on my last debt. Wow I feel liberated. I look at things in the store in a much different way. Like what use is this to me, not how fast I can through my money. Have a wonderful day 😁

One of my favorites is a super soft, comfy bed! If your mattress isn’t comfortable and you can’t afford a new one, get a soft mattress topper. Super soft, but not expensive, bedding and pillows make your bed feel luxurious! The down side is I don’t want to get out of bed,

A couple of months ago I invested in a single-cup Keurig machine. For the longest time my husband was against the purchase since we already have a 10-cup coffee pot; BUT since he and I have different preferences at times with our coffee flavors, I figured it would save more water. I also agree with the toilet paper bit; one thing he's pretty adamant about is that no matter how bad things get financially, if we can swing it, we're paying for Charmin. (Btw, they have a new ULTRA soft toilet tissue that is absolutely divine. LOL!)

Wow, this is so interesting because I've naturally done a number of these things over the past year and it really does help! I would add some more:
    - cancel streaming services and instead only pay for one at a time
    - turn off all your app notifications (spend more time in the real world)
    - take advantage of free events in your city
    - split costs for things with friends and share items you don't use all the time 😉

Right now during these uncertain times it really is a good idea to try to shop local when you can support your local businesses especially right now during the pandemic when things are so uncertain those businesses are struggling right now Walmart Target Sam's Club and Costco even Aldi's we'll all survive more than your local businesses will I try to shop local as much as possible because the local grocery stores that I have here are very good about supporting the community they support the local 4-H clubs in also food banks many of the grocery stores here will donate the leftover Breads and cookies and other things that will otherwise get thrown out to help other people I don't see Walmart Target or any of the other big box stores doing this when they can really afford to do it

My husband works full time for a local non profit and I work 3 days a week with children with special needs. We are by no means rich, but I feel good about where we are financially. We both have debt. Between the two of us we owe about $40,000 on our vehicles and still owe about $70,000 on our house. But we never miss payments and we are living within our means. It makes me feel rich that we can afford to buy the groceries we need and cover the bills we need to handle every month
