The journey along the green Rhine is the story of the inhabitants love of their river, but also of man's arrogance and excessive belief in technology, and the unbridled force of water. It is the story of man and nature, both in harmony and in conflict. From Lake Constance, the route first takes us to Basel, we continue north past the Alsatian metropolis of Strasbourg. After 500 kms, the journey ends at the so-called "Island Rhine" near Mainz.

The Rhine has been shrouded in myth over the centuries: No other river in Europe has more stories to tell - full of desires and longings. From a bird's eye view the film dives into the canyons of the Rhine source and at the Rhine Falls small drops of water fly past the audience so that they consider themselves right in the middle of the cascades. Panoramic shots amaze the audience all the way from Switzerland to the Netherlands. The Rhine is also one of the busiest waterways worldwide: The contradiction between industry and the urge for re-naturalization is vivid in everyday life of many of the protagonists - from the archaeologist at Lake Constance to the shepherd living in the green Rhine delta near Rotterdam.

"Europe's highest Waterfall" is in Krimml, Water falling 385 meters. The Rhinefall in Schaffhausen ist Europe's BIGGEST waterfall.

"Rhinefalls - with 23m the highest Waterfall in Europe." Sorry, but that's not true. But, i think it carries the most Water. Dettifoss in Iceland is huge, too.

Now I know why France is bigger than Germany with all these towns given to France as price for victory...

Germany stole those towns and villages from France in 1871 in the Franco-German war

@@yaniekjoro Yes. It remained in German hands from 843 (splitting of the Frankish Empire in East- and Westfrancia) until 1648 when the French took it during the treaties of Münster and Osnabrück. After Charlemagnes death in 814 the Frankish Empire was unstable and then split up after the treaty of Verdun. Westfrancia became the kingdom of France and Eastfrancia became the Holy-Roman-Empire in 963, which was dissolved in 1806, but later became the German Empire in 1871. We just took what had been German for 805 years.
