A lot of those government boundaries are really recent. Southern Italy used to belong to the Kingdom of Aragon back in the time of Isabella and Ferdinand; there were tons of Spaniards living in Sicily, Apulia, and even Naples. Same thing with France and Spain; large areas of what’s now southern France were in independent kingdoms like Navarre and Aquitaine which also bled into what’s now Spanish territory. And on top of that you have troop movements, and we all know that soldiers in the old days were far more brutal than even now.

The thing is "Spanish DNA" isn't the same as "Spanish people" as a Spaniard is unlikely to be 100% Spanish in DNA, they're likely to have some French, Italian, German, maybe Irish. So the Spaniards with light features might have more northern European ancestry. Spanish DNA though is Celtic and related to French and British.
Iberian dna is not exactly Celtic. Celtic is not even a genetic trait, it's a culture. But Iberian is indeed realted to France adn the British Isles. It's common in the Atlantic coast. Spaniards are mixed, yes, but not too much, and the mix was mostly with Italians, not so much with Germans, so Spaniards with light features are probably just Iberians as well, there's no need for them to have northern European ancestry, though some of them may indeed have some ancestry from aoutside the Iberian Peninsula.

And the chromosomes give different genes, the split isn't exactly 50-50. You get some from your mum and some from your father, but the genes go much further than your parents.

A lot of people where their ancestors came from Great Britain often have Scandinavian DNA. Which include Sweden, Denmark and Norway. This due to Viking immigration 1200 years ago. Also the Anglo-Saxon came from Denmark , Northern Germany. These dNA- tests could come up with funny results. I have a friend of mine who is Swedish and says he can trace back his scandinavian roots at least 200 years. He took the test and it said he was only 22 % Scandinavian while he had 45 %West Europe. He became disappointed thinking he was way more Sandinavian. There are people in UK and Netherlands with more Scandinaina DNA than he was.

Understand that your DNA is made up from 50% from your dad and 50% from your mother. But also understand that the DNA makeup is going to be different from sibling to sibling. I lived in Spain and have been to Portugal many many times and the people are super diverse looking light hair and eyes .. darker eyes and hair.. just like other places in Europe.. also keep in mind both Spain and Portugal have many former colonies all over the world and those peoples have came and settled in both countries so a lot of the mixed people in those countries are not native to Iberian peninsula ... Not all Spaniards are dark eyes and hair...some are very nordic looking due to mixing with north europeans.
Spanish and Portuguese are AMAZING cultures...they are one the most influential in the entire world. Some people are not proud to claim Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Greek heritage because those countries are too close to North Africa and the middle east...it scares them! He must think that having blond hair and blue eyed children represents being anglo...but I have news flash for him...they are mixed race people like Robin Thick's son who is just as white as this man's kids and his ex wife Paula Patton is biracial(black/white).
The thing is "Spanish DNA" isn't the same as "Spanish people" as a Spaniard is unlikely to be 100% Spanish in DNA, they're likely to have some French, Italian, German, maybe Irish. So the Spaniards with light features might have more northern European ancestry.
Spanish DNA though is Celtic and related to French and British.
Iberian dna is not exactly Celtic. Celtic is not even a genetic trait, it's a culture. But Iberian is indeed realted to France adn the British Isles. It's common in the Atlantic coast. Spaniards are mixed, yes, but not too much, and the mix was mostly with Italians, not so much with Germans, so Spaniards with light features are probably just Iberians as well, there's no need for them to have northern European ancestry, though some of them may indeed have some ancestry from aoutside the Iberian Peninsula.

Except that not how genetics or DNA works. The way your DNA makeup is made, is from a bit of everyone throughout the blood-line. You have genes from great-great-great grandparents. And the chromosomes give different genes, the split isn't exactly 50-50. You get some from your mum and some from your father, but the genes go much further than your parents.

I live in an area where a lot of Portuguese people settled, I myself am mostly Portuguese and its cool when other people are interested in it. I cant speak the language but I can distinctly recognize when someone else is speaking it. Great food too :D
A lot of people where their ancestors came from Great Britain often have Scandinavian DNA. Which include Sweden, Denmark and Norway. This due to Viking immigration 1200 years ago. Also the Anglo-Saxon came from Denmark , Northern Germany.
These dNA- tests could come up with funny results. I have a friend of mine who is Swedish and says he can trace back his scandinavian roots at least 200 years. He took the test and it said he was only 22 % Scandinavian while he had 45 %West Europe. He became disappointed thinking he was way more Sandinavian. There are people in UK and Netherlands with more Scandinaina DNA than he was.
I have more Scandinavian than he does! I have 41%, and live in Alabama, where most people arf English (Great Britain is 4% for me.) Most Scandinavians live in my county, Jefferson County.

Understand that your DNA is made up from 50% from your dad and 50% from your mother. But also understand that the DNA makeup is going to be different from sibling to sibling. That is because each time your parents or you have a child, it is not the same DNA. It is completely random each time. So you might get a percentage of something that could be from a great grandparent that others do not have.

The Ancestry.com system is pretty cool. They plug each individual's results into their data base and connect you with possible family members. This could lead to some cool meetings or surprises if you have parented children that you did not know about at the time.
The "irish" is celtic. A native scot or Welshman would show "Irish" as they are heavily Celtic

Iberians are the most mixed Europeans, and specially mixed with Jews, Arabs and Subsaharan Africans - to mention just the more modern admixtures. So, I don't know what makes them totally ignore their non-Northern European genes, but it was pretty awful to see such a disdain.

I lived in Spain and have been to Portugal many many times and the people are super diverse looking light hair and eyes .. darker eyes and hair.. just like other places in Europe.. also keep in mind both Spain and Portugal have many former colonies all over the world and those peoples have came and settled in both countries so a lot of the mixed people in those countries are not native to Iberian peninsula ... Spaniards and Portuguese are both white point blank period...

I just did this. My grandmother raised me and for my birthday she decided to gift me the kit to finally get some answers because I don't know my parents well and I've never met or have spoken to my mother or anyone on my mother's side of the family before, besides my siblings who are all just as clueless about our history as I am (I actually talked to my brother who is two years younger than I am for the first time 6 months ago). Accents aren't genetically carried, they are learnt. You could be 100% Chinese but have a great British accent. I'm only 8% Scottish/ English and I think I have a darn good British accent.
