Pre-beta hype was real, because of all the trailers misleading people to believe it to be a faithful BF4 sequel. Then afterwards it was a bait n' switch to hero shooter commericals and cheesy action movie quotes/scenes. Battlefield isn't mil-sim, but it had it's niche as a sudo-realistic atmosphereic shooter that was less arcade-y/arena-based than CoD. Now it's just an Frankenstein's monster of chasing trends.

But nothing compared to BF3/4 imo. They had posters on the London underground for that game. At least those games deserved them. Great games in a time when PC gaming was accessible for around $500.
If EA would have just made a BF4 clone with all new maps plus redone versions of old maps and just added new tanks/vehicles/weapons then the game would have been JUST RIGHT. It would have made the developers have an easy time making the game actually work on time for release and people would still be happy.
BF:Vietnam (the full game from 2004; not the DLC) & BF2142 are still part of my greatest gaming experiences. Bad Company 1 & 2 were also pretty fun. After that the cracks started showing. DICE used to make great Battlefield games. EA was only the publisher, but their increasing influence on the final product is why the series is at where its at now. AAA games went from being creative endeavours from passionate people to assembly line products that need to be updated every year to make budget numbers. I'm not saying all AAA games are garbage, but the formulaic nature encouraged by major publishers has been a disservice to customers. Whether they are chasing gaming trends (PubG/battle royal) or payment systems (microtransactions/ingame stores from mobile/F2P gaming); making sure their game has the right checkbox items that are popular at the moment seems to be their highest concern.

EA didn't fully acquire DICE until Oct 2, 2006 at which point 2142 would have released 2 weeks later on the 17th. Physical copies would have been pressed & packaged and advertising would be in full swing at the time. Which would leave EA little ability to affect 2142's launch state. Did EA have zero effect on DICE's development of 2142? Doubtful, but it's a far cry from their influence after the acquisition of DICE; now one of EA's "inhouse" development studios.
They need to just sprinkle buildings and cover on every single one of those maps, then remove bloom entirely from infantry guns and the game would instantly play better. Make vehicles earn their kills weaving in and out of closed spaces, and infantry able to advance without being in the middle of an open killing field 95% of the time.
This has to be the only time Halo won the fps wars by default because the competition just eliminated themselves Edit: Turns out the true losers of the fps was was the consumer

Most of the friends I have been playing Halo inf with seem to agree with me and those who don't are currently milking the campaign for everything it's worth, which is good for them but by the time they are up for multiplayer again, well my investment is currently low and only getting lower.

My favourite and most hated situations in this game was when I was on a skyscraper. The enemy team says nope, and all these hovercrafts just starts boosting 90 degrees upp the wall to get me to that squeaky horrifying version of the battlefield theme. Damn horror game is was it is.
I stoped caring about AAA developers a long time ago, as I accepted that their soul is no longer present in their creations. If gamers are looking for products that worth the price, they better search it with indie developers, as they took a more serious and focused effort to make something at least decent.
