      @@brianc1889 Yes, it has an interior. Sort of. It's a bit like a two-car garage -- a lot of wood and open space. Keep in mind, the house itself is quite small, so it's not like you can go explore anything. (When they did the "Psycho" remake (awful) in 1998, I was on all the sets. I paid a visit to the house interior late one night and walked up those creepy dark stairs with my flashlight. I kept expecting Norman Bates to pop out and shove a knife into me!) When I would do my nightly patrols, I caught more than my share of trespassers sneaking up to that old house. Can't say I blamed 'em too much. It's a fun backlot!

    The "house" was purposely built small to make it seem further away than it really was. I went on this same tour way before this tour with Norman coming out. It was vacant at the time but it seemed scarier because all you heard was the quietness/nothing on a bright, spring day.
    At first Hitch did not want any music or sound during the stabbing scene, but his wife suggested, since the composer did such beautiful music as in Rex Harrison's Ghost and Mrs. Muir that he would do a great job on this movie score and he certainly did. It was perfect and he won an award for that.

    Nice try, but this is the third version and second copy of the set from Psycho. The original Bates Motel was actually demolished by the late 60's and at least 2 other versions have been built in 2 other locations. Go figure! The original Psycho house was disassembled, moved and rebuilt in it's 2nd location in 1980. The third version, in this video, is the most compromised, with sets from other movies surrounding it, marring it's original visual grandeur, with an asphalt road built right in front of the "Psycho house' for the tour bus. Universal grossly underestimated the value and historical significance of that iconic classic set. I have to be honest, as someone who first heard about Psycho when it first came out when I was 6, then went to see it about 7 years later and became a Hitchcock fan/movie history buff for over 50 years now. I was at least able to get a much better secret private tour of the 2nd version in 1987; a lot closer to the original set and still an exciting experience.

    • @brianc1889
      @brianc1889  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for breaking it to me softly. lol But from what I've read it's the original house just has been moved and restored by adding a back section or something. So agree to disagree there. Thanks for stopping by

    • @boborrahood
      @boborrahood 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@brianc1889 True, in that the basic frame of the Psycho house has been saved, with a num er of boards replaced since it's 60 years old by now. The third wall on the right side was actually added around 1963 and can be seen in the background of Western movie The Last Gunfighter(on TH-cam). The 4th wall, or back, was added much more recently in the third location. I know, I'm such a film history geek! Did you see my comment about the 1990 fire I just added here? I'm also a big fan of To Kill a Mockingbird, and regret not getting a secret private tour of that before it was burned down as I did of the Psycho set in 1987.

      @@brianc1889 Then you probably know that the tower of the Psycho house was originally from the movie Harvey with James Stewart. Either copied, or cannibalized for the Psycho house. The house from Harvey was on the same street, and next to the house from The Munsters. Now it bears no resemblance to it, I think since it was used for the street in TV's Desperate Housewives. Did you see my comment about To Kill a Mockingbird?
