So the apology is fantastic and worded very well. I am still leary that these 3 people were scapegoated as there are more people like finance that see the bottom dollar and would be aware of it. A CEO of this company does not appear to be in touch with his or her staff and business practices. Would like to see report cards over a period of time to see if it really changes.
Whilst it is easy to blame the CEO , I doubt he or she was even aware until things blew up big time as from my research they have a lot more than one dealership so those who should heve kept the CEO in the loop obviously have not done so. I would not be surprised if they get their marching orders but not in public down the track but simply because they have proven to be not that competent in crisis management as they along with the people directly involved actually caused the issue to grow to what it became.
Someone needs to follow up to see where the 3 that were terminated actually went to? Let’s certainly hope that they aren’t now working at a different Hiek dealership. Their defiantly needs to be a “Where are they now”.
@@stephencox4224 sorry, but I can agree with ya for the basic reason that the owner/CEO of any dealership sees the the money come through the accounts and when you have a couple sales come through which put an extra $200k+ in your account, your gonna be asking some quick questions about where it came from! These guys are not blind to the bottom line! They watch it like a hawk and when something like this occurs when vehicles are being sold at a premium, you can’t sit here and tell me that they don’t have any idea what was going on, they are just trying to correct it quick so they did t become the next Bud Lite which is exactly what was about to transpire
How many people did this dealer rake over the coals before this? The CEO of this dealership is guilty of one of two things. 1. He/She was well aware of the price gouging and gave the blessing to conduct business like this. 2. He/She is asleep at the wheel and has no clue what is happening with their business. This was inexcusable either way. I’m glad they are “making this right” but it’s easy to be sincere after you got caught.
so... the CEO of the dealership needs be accountable for EVERYTHING, EVERY employee ever does, at all times??? I dont think thats a realistic expectation to have. thats why the sales team that sold the car out from under the soldier was fired to a man.
The "bad actors" were doing what the dealership wanted them to do - The ownership and management turned their head and held their nose while their staff used unscrupulous and unethical means to make sales and squeeze every dollar out. They got called out for it and some people had to pay. Forgive me for being sketpical about the dealer's motives.
Kudos to you OC! I couldn’t have said it better. I agree, ButtaDaInsider should get that car, because I heard it first from him. He is a good dude and his content is great. As a 26-year Military Veteran myself, this story resonated with me and I definitely didn’t want to see a Brother-at-arms get screwed over because of ongoing dealership greed. When Butta broke this story, I can tell he was livid by what happened and wanted to do something about it. “See something, Say something.” Never let an injustice happen. Kudos to you again OC for recognizing Butta. Get the petition out, I’ll be the first one to sign it.
a wise man once told me... if a company fucks up, makes their fuck up worse, then apologizes, they're only apologizing because they got caught, not because they are truly sorry.
Great video and thank you all for what you’ve done. Butter you are deserving of a 170 even though I know you didn’t carry the torch for your own needs. You are a good man
Yes… I think butter deserves that demon 170 …… he stood up for the soldier. I appreciate all the work you guys did exposing this dealership and I hope it continues if situations like this arise again. I’ve tried to buy cars from Mac haik 2x in Houston tx and their paperwork seemed shady both times, so I walked away. I’m glad ya put them on blast- so they can behave better in the future😊.
That is a good apology. It must be followed up with a commitment to no longer charge more than msrp on any car. And if anyone has been ripped off they need to refund the overcharges.
I’m proud that they publicly apologized and corrected the issue. This I hope is a lesson to all dealerships that have people like this that are still screwing the public?
I used to work in the automotive industry as a wholesaler. There was always drama at dealerships and front-end employees were always used by the owner as scapegoats and were let go to save face. Within weeks, those same fired employees would be in a new position at a dealership right down the street. The owners always know whats going on in their dealership and this shadiness is usually fully known by the owner and usually encouraged. Greed comes from the top down.
Sadly, this is happening in many other dealerships throughout America and has been happening for many decades. In the Mac Haik case one soldier was made whole, as a disabled Vet, that pleases me. But how many other Americans that were cheated will get anything at all? BTW, how do you know that anyone was fired, unless you have their names and addresses? Since hustling cars is their only talent, they are going to do this shit until they die, because there are no criminal charges to face, now or ever. Folks, don't EVER buy a new car as an investment as it will depreciate even quicker than shares of Paramount or Disney stock have. BTW, cops don't like Mopars any better than your insurance company does. I've owned many fast cars during the last half century and my 1970 Chally RT440 was, by far, the most costly. It was also my favorite. Keep the shiny side up and the beer cans out of the back seat...HAPPY MOTORING!!! Chris
There's also the reality that the soldier will have the red carpet rolled out for him. I mention this because of the commenter that lamented that the car wasn't going to be delivered to the soldier directly. This is an opportunity for Dodge to really knock one out of the park. So, the soldier will be flown out to Jay Leno's garage to take delivery of the car. And, depending on how far it is from the soldier's home, they'll still ship it back to his house if he wants. I believe the default will be that he has the option to have it shipped from there. He may decide to make a cross-country trip in his Demon 170, but the point is that he will have a choice. Given the PR around this, Dodge will bend over backward to ensure that the Service Member doesn't come out of pocket for anything other than the price of the car. Everything else will be handled. Great video OC!
I took my vehicle to them a little over a week ago and even though my warranty covered 100% of my repair on my hellcat, the service advisor asked me to still pay over $230 because he said he needed more time to work on the car. That was messed up. Let it be what it’s supposed to be… free.
My dealership just got one in we won an extra allocation. I can’t stress how awesome it was seeing it in person. Love your channel keep up the good content.
Glad to hear that they did. The dealership network especially for Dodge has a bed name on marking up its cars for its customers. This dealership just reinforces it for everyone and became the poster boy for this terrible practice. Which is why I wouldn’t set foot on that dealership’s lot EVER! I am not sorry they will probably close next year.. selling 4cyl CUV’s to teen girls and E.V’s
Dodge needs to take a closer look at their dealers.2 weeks ago I had a dealer brag about the $200k mark-up they were going to make on the 170 they had.
I agree with you Brad! Butter absolutely deserves that car! 🙂👍🏼 I also think that people that feel the dealership should never be forgive, don't deserve forgiveness WHEN they make a mistake!
That wasn’t a mistake 😂 tf it’s dealerships all over the place snatching selling cars from under customers to sell to some other fool willing to pay more for it
You need to learn the difference between mistakes and corrupt greed is. You do realize there is a book that all dealerships have have by federal law that shows every car on the lot and it's status . They knew exactly what they were doing. They may also have broke the law by screwing over a soldier who is out of county.
Agree with one of the comments that stated that even though the GM, Sales Manager, and Salesperson were terminated, this wasn't the first time that the price gouging had occurred. Somebody higher up was either aware of this practice and blessed it OR was completely sleep at the wheel with no idea what the children were doing. Butter Da Insider definitely deserves a shot at the 170, since the dealership he ordered from did him the same way. Where was Dodge corporate on his deal and the hundreds of other ADM deals? The dealers claimed it was market driven, but if that's true, then why didn't all the dealerships apply these markups. There were dealerships who resisted the greed and sold all their allocations at MSRP. Thanks OC for your content and making us aware of everything Mopar and automotive in general.
I'm glad it worked out for every one and that the bad actors were removed. I'm a tech at a dodge dealer in Vermont and we would also surfer if everyone boycotted the dealer
I'm feeling everything you said IC! I'm an Army Vet myself and have worked in and out of the car business since the early 90's in several states! And I most recently had to act as an advocate for a customer/friend that purchasing his Ram 5500 through me ( I brokered the deal). I had to fight for him with the dealership and Ram Care to get help with replacing his rear axle with the cost being well over 4k. I was very angry at the family owned CDJR dealership, since the issues first came to light while under warranty with many attempts from to fix it. I later found out there hands where tied and limited to what the could doing based on Ram's warranty requirements. Sometime later the service manger and i had a long talk and apologizes were exchanged from both sides. from me for not having a better understanding of the process, and for the anger I felt towards the dealership after standing for them, and sending them customers. So, forgiveness is an important element in life!!! Thank you for what you do!!!
Thanks for your very principled take on this whole matter. Great point about forgiveness. Enjoy your channel. Hope to see you at South OC C&C sometime.
Lets not forget and thank the people like you who took the time and money to make the original videos to shed light on this business and the disgraceful tactics that were used here. Without these videos, nobody would have known and the positive outcome would not have been achieved.
It would be different if this was a single instance of Mac Haik doing someone dirty, but from reports this was every day business for them. So no, they are not forgiven and should be driven out of business. If I was the CEO of Stellantis, I would give them zero allocation on all of the top of line vehicles, or better yet, pull their dealership. You are telling me the owner of Mac Haik didn't know this is going on, bullshit. We need a new model on buying cars, cause dealerships have been ripping people off for decades.
“Some of you were screaming to burn the dealership down” is wild lol. But atleast the service member will get his vehicle. Being a reservist, prior active duty guys have told me outta pocket things that happened to them while being deployed. Glad they made it right by him 🔥. The dealership only made it right because this incident had gained so much publicity.
Favorite car ever a 69 Charger R/T, but who can afford one? I've been a Mustang guy my whole life. I watched video b/c thumbnail says US soldier, so I watched it. I gotta tell you that this makes me pretty happy, not enough to take on a new car payment, mind you, but that the company took action and rectified the situation for a service member is pretty OK in my book. Well done, Dodge, and thx for your video! Merica!
Agree that the actions taken are a step in the right direction. The issue is this is a national dealership problem. I would appreciate if they lost all premium allocations for 12 months. This needs a manufacturer action as do all dealership markups
Knowing Butter was anearly victim I can think of no better person to end up with this car and the Active service member deserves the specail car he will recieve from Dodge thanks to a CEO who knows how to do the right thing to make things better. Butter deserves this particular car because he invested so much into this situation after being done over himself and the Original buyer deserves what will come his way from Jay Leno and Dodgethanks to a great CEO In both cases they will end up with a Car that gives them a positive feeling and thet is what they deserve if the Axtive Duty buyer gets that 170 it will always have mixed messages for him wheras the Dodge Offer will be a keeper for life positive from the beginning of that chapter of this saga
You give them one chance to apologize, if they do accept it. You give them two chances to apologize, you accept it with a grain of salt. You give them three chances and they STILL do not apologize and do NOT make things right, you Bud Light them! How many chances did they have to come clean and make it right? At least 3 times if not 4 times and it took the FIFTH time to finally do what was right. That is NOT an apology, that is an attempt to salvage the situation that got out of their control. You can forgive, others can forgive, but they took too long to do anything and just continued to try and let it blow over without any sort of apology or rectification!
I can’t believe we are still talking about this, some guy didn’t get his Demon, oh no. I’m a veteran and I didn’t get a demon are you going to shame dodge into making one for me. If you put as much effort into shaming the EPA we could keep them from aggressively killing our beloved hemi.
I said on TK's channel, The car should become an albatross for the dealership, they can never sell it, it should forever be in their showroom as a disgraceful monument to what they became, what they did and what they should strive to become, and all the time they are doing all that that 170 should sit and rust and rot as a symbol of what they used to be This does nopt take away from their redemption their retraining of employees to be better people as well as salesmen/technicians. But it'll always be a reminder
This same company got smacked by GM for shenanigans with ZO6 allocations. Now this. Maybe they learned but suspect they will just be more stealthy in the future
Ok that’s great that they are trying to fix it, but it still doesn’t change the fact that this isn’t the first time with their shady antics. They would have to have killer deals on what I wanted for me to step foot on their property. That’s my take on this.
When this soldier gets his car from Jay Leno, you, TK, Lucky Lopez and Butter should be there with the soldier when he receives the car. You 4 brought so much attention to what happened. TK went petty on Mac Haik and wore them down to getting three people fired.
I don't think they should be forgiving. They are only sorry because they get caught and it get blow up on social media. Who knows how many people, they done this to and would have continue to do until they get caught.
Good explanation on the subject of forgiveness. It can be really tough but if you don't forgive, you will not be forgiven. It doesn't mean there won't be consequences. Look up King David who committed some really bad sins and was forgiven.
Wait so is Mac Haik fired? Isn't he the one who sold the soldier's car? Butter finally gets credit! That would be cool if he got the demon. Big thanks OC to you for also using your platform to get this awesome outcome.
The apology was a desperate move. That green 170 was never posted or spotted by the original buyer. Then this would’ve never got that far. Even firing the so called employees. The general sales manager is truthfully the most responsible for the sale. Rumor is they did this with a z06. I wonder if the terminated employees are gonna speak out now.
I must say, I was worried that the dealer would do nothing. Or worse, continue to double down on insisting that they did nothing wrong. I am glad to be incorrect. Sure, they need to continue to follow through with their reparations. But they did well, in their first steps at making it right. Which is really all I could've hoped for as a resolution to this problem. Hopefully, it got enough attention that other dealers can learn from this rather than repeat it, or worse. Thank you OC, for also jumping in to amplify the message. Every voice that spoke, made a difference.
Butter did get screwed out of his 170, so why isn't the dealership that got him not been held accountable??? Would it be bc that dealership has a big name behind it??
Glad for the apology but this isn't the first time they have been identified as being "bad actors." I guess time will tell and they should be under a consumer microscope in the future.
I’m actually impressed with their statement. It didn’t sound like a cookie cutter generic apology but one they really meant. I don’t live anywhere near there so I don’t have a dog in the fight, but hopefully their customers will give them the benefit of the doubt. As far as the F8 green car, I think they should let the soldier decide. Sell it to Butter, auction it for charity, or other.
Love your program..... listen to all of them even as a Classic car guy... 1969 Chevelle SS 396 all of the 4 are original including a Monaco Orange L-89 1 of 400 made back in 1969. Anyways with that said I also own 2 Scat Pack RT 392. A Last Call 2023 and a 2019 Wide Body Scat Pack.
Bud light never apologized to their customers, they doubled and tripled down on going against their customer base, who was mocked. This is different from what the dealership did, at least they took appropriate measures, took action and apologized. That's great! Bud light needed to do the same.
Honest opinion from someone in the auto industry, they don’t deserve to be forgiven. They didn’t make things right because they wanted to. They did not do anything proactively. The dealership didn’t even begin the process of making things right. It had to come straight down from the top when the news went viral. There was no other option but to make things right for Dodge as a company. The fact that this was done multiple times as part of the same transaction speaks volumes. This is embedded in the culture of the Mac Haik dealer group. As happy as I am for the servicemen making out at the end, how many customers don’t get the same treatment because their experience didn’t go viral? Forgiving them now only leads to this happening again. I think the public needs to be reminded time and time again what happened because this is embedded deep in that dealer group and their business practices. Unless there is serious change from the top down, they don’t deserve anyone’s forgiveness. And the three people who got fired were only the scapegoats. Things like this don’t happen at the lower level unless it’s brought down from the top. That GM needs to lose his job and Mac Haik himself should have to be held responsible. And why am I so harsh? I work for a dealer group who practice good ethics and am throughly disheartened when I hear news like this. There are a lot of good people in this industry but the bad ones make it very difficult for the rest of us. Until every one of them are held responsible, this industry will continue to earn its bad reputation
What lesson did the dealer learn? Only way to implement change in a business is hitting their pockets. That’s why horrible business fail and disappear. There is no way any red blooded American could ever do that to a solider on active duty. I can’t think of anything more disciple then. Blows my mind that a man actively fighting for our county over seas got initially shafted like that. Any gamblers wanna bet that dealership would do this again if they didn’t get caught? I am glad it all worked out but man that dealer left a real bad image. The post they made didn’t even feel like it was written by a human but rather A.I. I own a business and I have made mistakes and when I give an apology I hope the person I’m talking to feels my sincerity.
They were the scape goat while their ceo posts a bs apology. It’s all about saving face, while they will probably go back to scamming people once this blows over. I’m sure the their ceo Authorized the markups and bs tactics.
So what's funny to me about this whole situation is in 2022, a Mac Haik Chevrolet dealership got put on blast for selling a corvette with a 90k markup, and everyone went wild, and the dealership in shame was forced to sell that vette at MSRP. But, I don't see anyone even saying a word about these cars going for a 100k markup.
Far better outcome that he go with Tim Kiniskis' offer - cool experience for the Marine, puts money back in his pocket and will enhance the resale value down the road - hopefully he doesn't wrap it around a tree. As far as Mac Haik - are we supposed to believe no one in the dealership's upper management had any idea about sales practices? They let them go as an emergency PR move. I also notice there hasn't been a word from Mac Haik himself.
All dealerships better take note, This type of horrible dealership practice must stop. Chevy and Ford try this type of crap it could put you on blast. Just treat your customers fairly, without us you have nothing. Glad this guy is getting taken care of.
still haven't seen one yet ,one Dealer told me they turned down $50,000 over he said try $75,000 over we could do the deal , one still want $250,000 over , prices are dropping , ebay motors sellers are stuck with there flips , might have to drive to so oc cars and coffee to see one in person
Guessing the CEO of Dodge basically told the CEO of Mac Haik if you want allocations for anything better than a base model Caravan going forward, shut up and do exactly what we say.
They did their jobs, what they are told to do.Make money. If not for the instant exposure of social media no one would have heard of this and nothing would have changed. The business made money .Sadly for us all , it's really about honor, integrity, morals, principals. These are not particularly taught or lived by anymore
Hey OCM….I believe in accountability for people’s actions….but I also believe that once justice has been achieved and a sincere apology is given…………forgiveness is the next step. 🙏🏾✝️😎⚓️

Someone needs to follow up to see where the 3 that were terminated actually went to?

The corruption at that dealership goes way deeper than those 3.
Probably the minimum the stealership had to do to retain their franchise.

New cars should be sold direct from manufacturer. The public never asked for new car dealerships, they were forced through.
Amazes me that people pay that much money for these Overweight Tugboats. No thanks
It's good they issued a statement/apology on this issue. Now they can move forward and do the right thing. This 170 is tarnished.

I'm glad they tried to remedy the situation. Hopefully going forward their actions will speak for itself.
With people like you, Butter and TK, the mopar community will be just fine. Now hopefully i get a 170😂

This is a good example of what could go on at a dealer, still don't trust them and won't buy from them.
I’ll bet Jay Leno pays for it.. Good for him.. Thank you for his service! 🇺🇸
Butter deserves this particular car because he invested so much into this situation after being done over himself and the Original buyer deserves what will come his way from Jay Leno and Dodgethanks to a great CEO
In both cases they will end up with a Car that gives them a positive feeling and thet is what they deserve if the Axtive Duty buyer gets that 170 it will always have mixed messages for him wheras the Dodge Offer will be a keeper for life positive from the beginning of that chapter of this saga
They are NOT sorry they did what they did. They are sorry THEY GOT CAUGHT. There is a big difference.
Great Video!! Awesome outcome!! Keep the Vibes coming.
Absolutely, we are given the ability to extend Grace as Grace is extended to us.
I can’t believe we are still talking about this, some guy didn’t get his Demon, oh no. I’m a veteran and I didn’t get a demon are you going to shame dodge into making one for me. If you put as much effort into shaming the EPA we could keep them from aggressively killing our beloved hemi.
I said on TK's channel, The car should become an albatross for the dealership, they can never sell it, it should forever be in their showroom as a disgraceful monument to what they became, what they did and what they should strive to become, and all the time they are doing all that that 170 should sit and rust and rot as a symbol of what they used to be
This does nopt take away from their redemption their retraining of employees to be better people as well as salesmen/technicians. But it'll always be a reminder
This same company got smacked by GM for shenanigans with ZO6 allocations. Now this. Maybe they learned but suspect they will just be more stealthy in the future
I've been watching butter for quite a while. And yes, he does deserve a Demon 170. And good call on your part for mentioning it.
Forgive doesn't equal forget.
It would be GREAT if the serviceman asks the dealership to sell that car to Butter.
DIdn't the same company have an issue with marking up a corvette last year?
Glad this worked out! But also having a Demon170 picked out by Dodge for you has more value then his original car.
Definitely agree, Butter da great should have the opportunity to get that 170
Wait so is Mac Haik fired? Isn't he the one who sold the soldier's car? Butter finally gets credit! That would be cool if he got the demon. Big thanks OC to you for also using your platform to get this awesome outcome.
Man, i love that shade of Go Mango! 🤤
Edit - Fully support the idea on Butter!!
Scapegoated these guys, hope they sue the hell out of that dealer
Dodge CEO must put policies in place that will stop this from happening. It’s not just one dealership.
Glad for the apology but this isn't the first time they have been identified as being "bad actors." I guess time will tell and they should be under a consumer microscope in the future.
That was nothing more than corporate damage control......
I still say boycott dealer ships who have contributed the same way dodge did
I’m actually impressed with their statement.
I work for a dealer group who practice good ethics and am
throughly disheartened when I hear news like this. There are a lot of good people in this industry but the bad ones make it very difficult for the rest of us. Until every one of them are held responsible, this industry will continue to earn its bad reputation
I’m glad. This dealer nonsense and greed has gotten out of control since COVID.
Yall make me want a Dodge so bad.. but I told myself the Guila QV would be next.
The conflict inside is WILD😂
"Fired" from that dealership and transferred elsewhere? Or truly fired from the corporation??
They were the scape goat while their ceo posts a bs apology. It’s all about saving face, while they will probably go back to scamming people once this blows over. I’m sure the their ceo
Authorized the markups and bs tactics.
Cool 😎. Great job Brad ! 🎉
Where are THESE meets at? I live in San Diego and would love to attend one of these things! That blond driving the red Demon was hot!
Can we somehow extend this to all dealerships and to all models? Everything is so much more above the MSRP these days it's criminal.
LOL! A Lamborghini T-shirt in a demon video!
Totally agree! Great Video.
I think Butter should be given that chance to buy the Demon 170. I am glad the Dealership has made things right. Forgiveness is in full effect.
Agreed!!!
Butter the Great (Insider) certainly deserves the right of refusal.
Excellent news!
Sweet great to hear 👍
I have no mercy for dealers that price gouge.
We have butter should get the car no doubt about it I think they should give it to him
All dealerships better take note, This type of horrible dealership practice must stop.
Hats off to you fellers
Great idea to sell the Demon 170 to Butter Da Insider!
Why and how was the demon 170 returned to the dealership? Did the guy who bought it return it?
I’m good with Butter getting a chance at that Demon 170. He has gotten screwed out of a couple different vehicles.
They did their jobs, what they are told to do.Make money. If not for the instant exposure of social media no one would have heard of this and nothing would have changed. The business made money .Sadly for us all , it's really about honor, integrity, morals, principals. These are not particularly taught or lived by anymore
"No longer with us"
They were executed?
The only way this unscrupulous behavior stops is if dealers loose their franchise .... there needs to be a code of conduct that has teeth!
The amount of money in sales this dealer lost is got to be a mountain.
Hey OCM….I believe in accountability for people’s actions….but I also believe that once justice has been achieved and a sincere apology is given…………forgiveness is the next step. 🙏🏾✝️😎⚓️
