    Nice resto. My brother had the CB72 here in Australia back in the 60s. He was in the Navy and when he was on a ship I had the bike, when he was on a land base he had it. I'd previously owned a BSA Bantam 125, which had a 3 speed gearbox. When I first started riding the CB72 it must have taken me several weeks to discover fourth gear. That was a good day. :)

      I remember back in the late 1960's a buddy of mine who live a block away bought a brand new one exactly like yours. I always drooled when he rode it past my house. My folks wouldn't let me buy a motorcycle while I lived with them. Once I moved out, I got a procession of motorcycles and to this day still have a Harley and two scooters.
      Those 60's Hondas were great bikes and very affordable. That's why they sold so many.

      My first motorcycle was a used '66 Kawasaki 175 twin two stroke. It had a cool 4 speed transmission that you could upshift or downshift and when you came to a stop sign in 4th gear, all you had to do was push the shifter down one more time to go into neutral. Then down again for first gear, etc. Even had little lights in the tachometer to tell you what gear you were in as well as a separate larger green light for neutral. Way ahead of its time.
      I used that bike to deliver newspapers in the mornings, 7 days a week, when I went to college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
      My folks sold the bike after I joined The Navy with my blessing and sent me the money.

    These engines came in three different stroke variations. The super hawk, I think the one in this video, the Pistons went up and down together, and they Fired at the same time, that’s why the super hawk had 2 carburetors. The Honda dream had the same crankshaft, the Pistons went up and down together, but they took turns firing, That’s why the dream engine only required one carburetor.then there was The scrambler. In that engine, one piston would be at top dead center, the other piston would be at bottom dead center like the pedals of a bicycle. I had to Keep that in mind when I was a Honda mechanic

    • @davidbernardi3393
      @davidbernardi3393 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong.. CB72/77 (Hawk/Super Hawk) had Type 1 crank. 180 deg crank throws, 2 sets of points, 2 carbs. Uneven firing, which is why they needed 2 carbs and sound "lumpy". C72/77 (Dream) had Type 2, 360 deg cranks. Pistons rise and fall together. Alternate firing. One set of points with wasted spark ignition. Even firing means they could run 1 carb. No Honda twin ever had pistons that rose and fell together and fired at the same time (infact, no parallel 4 stroke twin ever made, that would be just silly...)

      @@Anton-ce9du cool.. I live in Japan. I wanna put it on my old Kawasaki but the regs don’t permit sealed beams anymore. The bulb in the Stanley is sealed into the beam and you have to replace the whole thing. You can’t just remove the bulb, or if you do you have to drill out the base and smash it to bits and suck it out of the bowl through the hole. What a mess. Anyway I like the speedo and light set up so I’m gonna give it a go.
