I interpret it, personally, as him kind of going in between the pov of his mom and his dad. The song mainly talking about how cold and bad of a man his father is, and how his mom struggles with that and doesn't want to leave the family by leaving him. I could be wrong. Idk enough about Matty to know if he is close to his father or not. But that is what I get from this song.

i only have one song i don't like that much by the 1975, fallingforyou. all the rest like chocolate, robbers, money, sex, you, me, heart out, talk!, settle down, girls, head cars bending, antichrist, pressure, the city and more i absolutely love. some of those songs i actually didn't like at all to begin with, then after a few listen loved, like sex and the city. i remember when i first heard robbers, i thought, "wow this guy's whiny voice ruins this great riff." but now i love everything about this band. i could look at any new song by them and know it's probably going to be great.
Weird, fallingforyou is my favourite of all the music they've released and Matty even states sometimes during live performances that fallingforyou is their best song. But I guess everyone has different ways of connecting to music.
