    Great video! Also, at 53:10 there was a really weird thing where technically I think it was right to not float mana in response to Saga's trigger cause them reanimating Portal would've given you another chance to make constructs, which is pretty funny given how not floating mana is normally such a classic Saga blunder

    33:09 Nettlecyst is actually bigger than construct since it also counts enchantments. It is using a card but it pushes more damage on subsequent turns.

    • @thekilla1234
      @thekilla1234 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He didn't say "bigger", he said "better". You can cast Nettlecyst whenever you want but you can only make constructs on turn 2 and 3 of Saga. He is weighing up whether or not he wants to develop one of the cards in his hand early at the cost of 1 construct, and he concludes that having the extra construct will be better overall. It is 1 card at the cost of 2 damage with the line he described, since the construct gives the Nettlecyst 1 extra power it would have been missing if the construct wasn't created, and if the construct is dead by that point that is removal that wasn't used to kill the Nettlecyst.

    • @NoticemeSinPi
      @NoticemeSinPi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thekilla1234 but it isn't clear that it is better. Nettlecyst does more damage, at the time he makes that decision it's only going to be 1 more damage, but later ends up 2. But what does that lost damage wind up meaning, it would take away opponent's line of going Snuff Out on Lodestone Golem then Serenity, get hit by construct to 1 and then wipe our entire board.

    Here's a possible brew suggestion for Urza's Workshop (not saying it would be good)
    What about adding in a couple Vesuvas
    I think the main issue would be the tempo loss of it coming into play tapped, but I feel the power of having 6+ effective copies of Urza's Saga, Urza's Workshop, or Ancient Tomb seems pretty good (plus if your opponent plays a good land, you can have Vesuva copy that land)
    Like I said, I don't think it would be good, but if we're brewing to get Urza's Workshop going without using Tron, why not use the land that made 12 post a thing?

  • @boccipiles
    @boccipiles ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't understand the school of thought where you don't board Leyline in against UR Delver, it just invalidates so much of their deck. I was always afraid of Leyline as an UR Delver player in the EI days.

    • @GeoQuag
      @GeoQuag ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It certainly constricts delver when you randomly have it in your open 7 but at what cost? Are you willing to mulligan down to like 4 to draw the leyline? If you don’t open with it it’s hard to cast and is mostly a dead card slowing down the deck. If you do mulligan down to it, it slows down the delver deck somewhat, but you will also be slowed down a lot because you will be missing the critical mass of cards to get your opals, constructs, and other payoffs going. Incidental graveyard hate might be good against delver, but all in graveyard hate is not great when it doesn’t force an answer before your opponent can even try to win. Delver can still bash you to death with their 3/x creatures while using counter spells and meltdown to collapse your small hand.

    • @boccipiles
      @boccipiles ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeoQuag Well I definitely wouldn't mull to 4 like we're playing against Oops or Reanimator.

    • @GeoQuag
      @GeoQuag ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boccipiles because leyline is such a dead card when you don’t mulligan for it (unless you are playing a black deck that would be okay spending 4 mana for it), if you wouldn’t mulligan for it then it’s probably not worth being in. It’s going to be a mostly dead draw that would have been better as pretty much anything else unless it’s in your opening hand in this deck. Loadstone golem is a better 4 drop against delver and it’s easier to cast.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s about opportunity cost. I want to keep 7 and draw gas in the matchup. I’m not going to take even 1 mull looking for Leyline, if there’s 2 in my opener I’m down a card, if I draw one ever after opening hand I’m down a card, it’s just fundamentally not the game the “tax you and kill you quickly” deck is trying to play.

    • @thekilla1234
      @thekilla1234 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boccipiles The main issue with Leyline is that it is a dead card after turn 0. If you aren't putting it in to mull to it you are just making your deck worse for a 40% chance that you see Leyline in your opening hand that sort of slows down Delver but doesn't stop it from playing a slow game with Wasteland, Bolt and Meltdown while they dig through their deck for Brazen Borrower to undo everything you did to get Leyline in play. There is also a 6% chance you get 2+ Leylines as well which is bad because it's basically a mull to 6.
      So 54% of the time your Leylines weaken your deck and do nothing to your opponent, 6% of the time you start with Leyline but have a 5 card hand and 2 dead draws, and 34% of the time you get what you want with Leyline in play that can just be undone with a 2 mana play from the opponent. Even if you mull only once for it you only have a 64% chance of seeing it and then you are playing a 5 card hand at most. If you aren't boarding in Leyline to actively mulligan for it and win immediately using it you probably shouldn't board it in.
      Sure, you can sometimes win as a result of Leyline, but you will win a lot more games as a result of just having a good deck and playing it.

      It plays just like the monolith with all the sol lands but it also can make constructs with urzas saga. Instead of viewing it as cute, view it as mana ramp... Of course I see the other side is you have to have the lands to untap and this deck is trying to kill before you have enough lands to make it a value. Just a thought.
      *Edit:* after watching the video I still think it's probably worth the try. In place of a voltaic Key (they are doing incredibly similar roles) of course they're at the end.
