They are fantastic! The main differences are the wood type of the neck, It’s a bolt on neck, and there’s no preamp (I believe) in it. So it probably won’t have a Spector classic growl, as much… but it’s a GREAT bass!

We have the same taste in basses, I also have a Zon Sonus and a 30th Anniversary Stingray. ... and I'm currently looking at Spectors. I'm leaning towards an LX with Barts and the Darkglass Tone Capsule, but it's good to know that the EMGs with the Tonepump aren't bad either.
That is awesome!! I definitely prefer the new ones that have the Bartolini’s and Darkglass. They are PERFECTION. They have a perfect recording signal and sound amazing! I have the Euro LT 35 scale BEAD and the Euro LT 4 string. Both with PJ configuration.

It depends on where the serial number is placed basically but that still doesn’t tell you the scale. I would say unless you specifically ordered a 35 scale, it’s most likely a 34 scale. I special order 35 scale basses.

Did you take it to a luthier to see if it’s fully functioning? I’m asking because I had a base that I thought the same about, and I took it to Luther and he said that the pick up actually wasn’t working. I wasn’t a spector it was a different base. But that might be and I’m sure you’ve tried putting a new battery in… which model is it? You could also replace the pick ups as a last resort

Someone gave me a great tip the other day for a base that sounds to metallic like you’re speaking of is to put flat wound strings on it. I’m doing that with my music man which I had the same issue with
I don’t believe the town pump Junior is adjustable. Do you have one of your base? Open up the back and take a look if it doesn’t have a dial knob it’s able to be turned with a Phillips head and it’s definitely not adjustable but from what I’ve seen of them they are not adjustable
I had similar issue with my Spector Pulse 5. The first time I played it at home the Singal from straight out of the box was so hot and clipping like crazy. It Doesn't have trim pot on the Tone Pump Jr. I had to basically lower my pickups to around 5-6mm and dial the volume knobs to no more than 3'oclock, set Bass Boost Knob to 9-10 o'clock and treble to 12-1 o'clock (if your looking down at your bass from your POV).

Nicki, I just rewired an existing active emg bts system in a Spector NS-2000/4. On the small green prewired circuit board is a small black square component with 2 very small switches. Do you know what those are for?
I've never tried one, but I believe the concept is the same. I think these were used in other models of the Spector. I'm only familiar with the "regular" tone pump, and NOW I have the new Euro LT spector which uses darkglass electronics and I'm really enjoying that. I think they are really for different applications. The tone pump is just to kill it live on stage and the LT sounds great LIVE and has a better signal for recording. Are you finding a used on that has that? Is that why you're checking it out?

Jesus, about the only bass that didn't get destroyed by the Spector, was the Stingray. I have a new "Mike Starr" white (as I like to call it) Euro5 coming in this week...Tone Pump pre with the TW pickups. This should be good.

I'd make them more, but my downstairs neighbor has been home with that goofy flu. Anyway, Mike's tone is some of the best ever. His singled-out master tracks on YT are sick as hell. I read AIC's bio recently, and found out that Evan Sheeley, of whom used to run Bass NW (now sadly defunct), was friends with the band. He was solely responsible for Mike's tone on Facelift and Dirt (and the Sap EP). I later contacted him on FB, talked to him about the gear, and he's a good dude...seems like a guy that could talk gear all day. Mike Inez also has simple, crushing tone as well. "Stone" is ridiculous, even if involves distortion (as opposed to clean).
Indeed, and the tone you've copped with your NS-2 comes darn close, or is that a Euro, too? So I did check out Sea of Sorrow...nice job! Isn't that just such a badass tune? People don't get that the Tone Pump is close to the coveted Haz Lab pre, which Mike had.
it was such a great help for me ! thanks again! :) i got my spector without a manual and thought it was broken because of the enormous high output. so i never touched it for years and many times i considered of selling it but i never could do it. i just played my warwick basses instead. this week i played my dream bass, the thumb, and i was so hooked up that i had to hold me back buying it. instead i rekindled the love for the spector again and did a little research about the tone pump. next step is setting it up to low b! Thanks again Nicki!
Yes, overall output increases quite a lot, i had to turn down all my TP's as the signal was far too hot, especially when hooking up with a B7K. I think it's sitting at just over a 1/4 turn from off.
It would just blow out the levels and be out of control. It might sound good through an amp and would probably give the amp overload. But in general, it would be a very hot signal. Way too hot. Mine was basically at 90% when I started the video and now it's around 70%, so you basically heard it (almost on 100% in the video.

Such beauty AND plays Spector? I am swooooooon!!!! The thing with the Euro's is you don't get a lot of options but the later models where you can dial the TP Up/Down helps but once you get into the US models with the Haz its another world entirely. I had a Euro435LX that was to me the best sounding Euro I have heard, wish I still had it. :(

:-) I've owned half a dozen or so P basses over the years including several Hot Rods. However, i did switch them all to an active set up as the passive dull thud made my eyes bleed! I am currently fitting a couple of EMG TBDC's and Tonepump to a Gibson T-bird then tune it BEAD, if that doesn't perk it up a bit i'll encase it in concrete and drop it over the rim of Mount Etna. Love the vids...keep up the great work...TTFN. :-)

Lol..cheers Nicki, i love the dirt and grind that comes out of a Spector, especially when digging in, mind you, if i do it too much my hand cramps up and it feels like my arm has been amputated at the ear!! It must be 10 years now since i started out using them and i like you it was that twang and thud that got me hooked, amazing bit of kit. I think i wet myself when i first hooked one up with a Darkglass!! Really looking forward to getting the T-Bird up and running, just to see if i can cure it of that passive pokey tone, makes me wanna' chew my own leg off! As for the neck i think i have handled thicker dental floss, i'll post a vid if it's a success....if not i'll be mixing some concrete!! Laters potatoes.

By the switches you can select different curves for the high frequencies pot. Search un the emg site for the bts circuit users manual.

If it’s a TW the knobs should be push pull amd yes the tone pump should be adjustable!
