Hello, Kuya Kurt! I know you're probably in Utah by the time you read this but here's some tips (for your next round of vlogs when you get back here):
    1) Refrain from saying "Pwede po bang patikim lang?" but instead say "Pwede po bang half-order lang?". The former literally translates to "Can I just have a taste?" which, in the mind of an ordinary hardworking Pinoy, connotes you only want to get a FREE sampling of the food -- hence you'd notice their hesitation to agree.
    2) Instead of saying "pa-shoutout", ask passersby instead "May gusto ka bang i-shoutout?". The former connotes you're INSTRUCTING them to give your page a shoutout, whereas the latter translates to "Do you want to advertise yourself or do you want to greet anybody?".
Hope that helps. Looking forward to your next trip back and to your next round of food vlogs! KITAKITS!

Ahhhhhh that makes so much sense! Someone told me to use "tikim lang" but it makes sense that I always get a confused face from the people I'm talking with haha thank you po!

@@tagalogkurt ... In addition to saying 'pwede po bang half-order lang' you can then say, 'pero magbabayad ako ng full price'. this way very clear sa mga tao taking your order that you only want a small portion of the food but will pay the full price.
      great suggestion @excalibrium!
      cheers

Kuya Kurt! you are setting a good example to other foreign bloggers. You have humility and a genuine heart that can easily captures the hearts of the Filipinos. It's a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of Filipinos around the world. They adore people who sets standards of respect, courtesy and joy of your heart. Filipinos are very easy to please.... just be natural just like the way you are. Keep on laughing and spread love and kindness all time. These are the basic human qualities that endures a lifetime. Positive action attracts positive results.... What you give you'll received in 10 or more folds. Gratitude is one of the best enduring human quality that we can always practice regardless of our condition in life. Continue spreading positivity!!

if would be easy for someone to go to the Philippines, whether it's their first time, or highly immersed like yourself, to be judgemental, and complain, and say alot of disparaging things about the Philippines - but you never do that. You always keep it positive and are very giving, you are very respectable to the people, and always give the benefit of the doubt to the people. I commend you for that. You have definitely earned your Pinoy 'membership' card =)

Thanks for the kind words. I think growing up only knowing western culture (or at least US culture) and then getting dropped into a foreign country for two years during the beginning of my adult life gave me an ability to contrast the differences and appreciate them.

@@tagalogkurtpares means "pair" like pairing it with garlic fried rice and soup making it a complete meal. just like what ate said, may ka-collab na soup (may kapartner or may ka-terno). usually pares is made of beef boiled with its broth for hours making it thick and savory. but with babes', they make use of lechon kawali (deep fried belly) instead of beef. slicing the lechon kawali and the pares broth poured over it calling it lechon pares. yum! 🤤😋💕

In the states where Kurt is coming from napkins are what we have at the table during mealtime & when you buy it in the supermarket, tissue is what you sneeze upon or wipe your nose, pads are feminine products. Let's be patient , cultural adaptation takes time, especially if it is a 'second language'.Godspeed!

Manila is over price and they use too much MSG (magic sarap) you are not showing your viewers the different place I. the Luzon Area. Please leave the Manila area and go to the poorer karenderya and I promise to that you will love there cooking better and cheaper.😊😅😮 stop asking people about ‘if you want to shout out’ .
