Jefferson, Texas is located in East Texas and has a population of about 2,500 people. Jefferson was founded in 1841 and is known for its many historical markers in the town. Many of the historic houses in Jefferson now operate as a bed and breakfast, making Jefferson known as the Bed and Breakfast Capital of Texas.
There are many historic buildings and tourist attractions in the town including the Gould Railroad Car and the Jefferson Carnegie Library which was constructed in 1907 with money donated by Andrew Carnegie.
Jefferson was able to benefit from being an important port due to the natural formation of a log jam that kept the Red River at high enough water levels for significant amounts of commercial traffic coming in from the Mississippi River. After the Civil War the town was one of the largest in Texas, with a population rumored to be approaching 30,000 people. In 1873 the army corp of engineers cleared away the log jam, which then caused the river and Caddo lake to drop their level to the extent that commercial traffic was no longer able to reach the town by boat.

I get a lot of questions about the cameras I use. Here are my main cameras:

This little handheld camera is very easy to pack and carry with you because of its size.

Wow! What a nice quiet drive through one of the best quaint and historic small towns in Texas. Nearly every time I've visited "the lone star" state I've made it a point to stop at Jefferson going back to 1983. You picked a beautiful day for a beautiful drive through a beautiful town. Thanks for sharing!

I remembered. At first, I have visited Jefferson in 1989 for a few hours. And again on cooler Easter weekend of 2007 with a friend from Japan who enjoyed seeing lot of historic places and took many pictures and videos. There were lot of visitors from everywhere including far places such as Wisconsin. Lodgings was so full plus lot of campers and RV. We have eaten lunch at Auntie Skinner 3 times and dinner elsewhere. And we visited at Caddo Lake in Karnack, he loved it too. Later back to Houston not enjoyable.

Yeah well Texas pays more in federal road taxes than any other state and is last getting them back. So, you're welcome.
