Alan was the one who truly, truly lost a lot with Jason's accident. Jason was Alan's whole world. Jason was his best friend, his confidant, his light and his legacy. He lost so much when he lost Jason.

Robin wanted him to have a relationship with them, any kind of relationship. Jason couldn't give them a full time family relationship of Thanksgiving and Christmas, no matter how much Robin tried to push it.
