First show I ever been to was The Aquabats and ever show since then has never been as good. That's when we still had a decent venue though. RIP Huntridge.
Last ska fest I went to in Canada there were a bunch of new and young bands. I can't speak for other countries, but in terms of ska-oriented festivals, record labels and the general number and scope of bands, most scenes seem far more vibrant than the US, just from what shows/fests I've seen in Canada, England and Australia.
It seems to be going through a revival here in England, but I mean that I have seen quite a few good bands come out of the U.S in recent years. Which is nice.
It's big in South America, prominently commercial in Japan, and still has varying degrees of mainstream and underground popularity throughout the UK, Europe and Australia. North America had their chance but blew it. :(
Hank is a race of evil cyborg creatures shaped like salt-shakers from the planet Skaro. Hank is regularly known to fight a man called the Doctor, and recently is known to be wiped out entirely... and come back. Hank is known for it's catchphrase of "EXTERMINATE!!!", but Hank's coolness was lowered when he turned all multicoloured in the most recent appearance.
@Mrnateman2296 Guest star!? Dramatic understatement. The band IS yo gabba gabba. Literally. Some of the band members created the show, and are the guys in the costumes.
"Aquabeat" means nothing in real life. It's a fictional genre that is part of the band's nerdy/goofy mythology. That said, this "Charge!" album has Ska elements on several songs, this one included, despite being mainly Punk and New Wave music. The main difference is that the synthesizer plays the main melody instead of the horn section now. Now on the other hand, the previous LP "The Aquabats vs. The Floating Eye of Death" had almost no Ska at all, but still had horns.
Just becuase they use upstrokes in the song doesn't make it a ska song. Not that it isn't awesome, haha. Who knows. All we know is that their ska days have been over for a while. Plus, there are other bands that use uptrokes that aren't ska bands (Ex: Storm in a Teacup by Milburn).
"Like Mexican candy, we got some complex flavor runnin' up in here."
Best simile in the history of music!

Love these guys, funny as hell and they are Ska. They know how to use their instruments too.

"Get stupid on your time" best lyric I've heard in some time.

Can't stop listening to this album. Fashion Zombies is my favorite song from it.

Put it this way, would The Aquabats want you to argue over their sound?
Stay loyal to the principles, if not the sound.
And I think this is awesome :D
@conman385 it'll def be back. It never totally dies.
The memories.. OH the memories.
Well, yeah.
Whatever, let's stop agrueing and listen to this awesomeness.
You, my friend, have found several; silly, decadent, but yet relevant gems. Shiny and valuable are they, hey hey!

i love that people are complaining about this not being ska when the band claims to play its own unique blend of music called aquabeat not ska
They used to be ska, which is where the confusion comes from.

Ska-punk bands, maybe, but it's been a long time since I've seen any good *ska* bands - be it trad or 2-Toney - come out of the States.
Ska even.... Damn auto correct
Just becuase they use upstrokes in the song doesn't make it a ska song. Not that it isn't awesome, haha.
