      For me, it'd be the buffs Gen 9 gave to Mist Ball and Luster Purge, boosting their base power from 70 to 95.
      Now Latias and Latios have a reason to actually run their signature moves.

      Hypothetical question, as stronger moves get added to the game, would you consider Metronome to be buffed 🤔

    Idea for a vid: Overshadowed moves and abilities.
    Highlighting moves and abilities that over time have been powercrept or forgotten about as new moves and abilities and items are introduced.
    For example, Clear Body has been overshadowed by Clear Amulet, Liquidation overshadowed Waterfall, and Return overshadowed Body Slam

    • @MattBudYT
      @MattBudYT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      That's a really interesting idea. There definitely are a bunch of moves that aren't seen anymore because new ones dropped. Abilities and items would be fun to research into. Thanks for the comment!

    • @jimtsap04
      @jimtsap04 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Clear body is a good ability tho, it's a viable choice for dragapult against webs for example whereas clear amulet takes up an incredibly important items slot

      Close Combat overshadowed High Jump Kick and Superpower

    • @oireal7261
      @oireal7261 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jimtsap04 My point moreso is that the value of Clear Body as an ability is less valuable since it can effectively be replicated on any Pokémon with Clear Amulet.
      The logic follows as "oh, this new Pokémon has Clear Body, but I could've just used Amulet instead". Both effects are strong, and have different synergies, however Clear Body is less valuable by proxy

    • @oireal7261
      @oireal7261 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@goGothitaLOL I tend to disagree. High Jump Kick has higher base power at 130, meaning it has some breakpoints for OHKOs that 120 doesn't reach, even at the risk of missing, it's still extremely strong.
      Superpower is also better for Contrary Pokémon than Close Combat due to the constant attack raises (Think of Enamorous with it). All three are situationally good and have niches

    I wanna point out that Multihit moves also really benefitted pokemon with the technician ability, turning them into at least 75 base power moves that could break Subs and ignore focus Sash or endure

    A few more cool buffs:
    - Moves like Tri Attack, Rock Slide, and Waterfall didn't gain secondary effects until Gen 2
    - Substitute got massively buffed in Pokemon Stadium onward. In RBY, it didn't protect you from things like Thunder Wave. Now that's obviously not the case
    - Before either Gen 4 or Gen 5, all priority attacks were +1 priority only. Now in the modern day, attacks like Extreme Speed and Fake Out go before other priority moves like Quick Attack and Shadow Sneak
    - Leaf Blade got a nice BP buff from 70 to 90 in Gen 4
    - Gunk Shot used to be a clone of Focus Blast, until they buffed its accuracy from 70 to 80 in either Gen 5 or Gen 6
    - Rock Tomb in earlier gens was 50 BP, 80% accurate, but come Gen 6, they added 10 to both values
    - Mystical Fire's BP in Gen 6 was only 65. Gen 7 onward sees it at 75, very appreciated by everything that gained the move in Sword and Shield
    - One of the biggest buffs in recent memory, Latios and Latias had their signature Luster Purge and Mist Ball buffed from 70 to a whopping 95 BP in Gen 9, stronger than Psychic itself. Latios especially appreciates its Psychic STAB getting a bit stronger
    - Roar and Whirlwind used to do absolutely nothing in Trainer Battles. Come Gen 2, both moves gain the ability to phase out the Pokemon of opposing trainers
    - Spikes got a massive buff in Gen 3, being the first time you could stack 3 layers instead of 1
    - Power Gem used to be a pitiful 70 BP. 80 BP is much more reasonable

    If I was given the opportunity to bring back moves that were deleted in gen 8, this is how I would buff/change them
    -multi-strike moves (Barrage, Bone Club, etc) get a power increase and if the move’s accuracy is lower than 90% then set it to 90% accuracy
    -buff power of some moves (Dizzy Punch = 80, Magnet Bomb = 70, Needle Arm = 80)
    -buff accuracy of some moves (Egg Bomb = 95, Mirror Shot = 95, Mud Bomb = 95, Rolling Kick = 100)
    -remove secondary effect (Flame Burst = remove splash damage, Ominous Wind = remove stat buff chance, Silver Wind = remove stat buff chance)
    -Rock Climb, increase accuracy to 95 and change typing to rock type
    As for the other moves, some are removed due to having unique battle mechanics (I.E. Magnitude), the move is a less powerful version or an exact copies of other still existing moves (I.E. Bubble), or the move is fine but GameFreak chose to remove it anyway (I.E. Pursuit)

    A ton of moves got buffed going from gen 2 to gen 3 with the introduction of double battles by making them hit both opponents. For example, Icy Wind - introduced in gen 2 - went from nearly worthless to one of the best supporting moves in doubles. Similarly, some moves got buffed in gen 5 by being given long range in triple battles, but that wasn't as big of a deal, especially since no one played triple battles

    The funny thing about Jump Kick & High Jump Kick is that in gen 1, they had a crash damage of 1 HP. What was even the point of it? Were they serious?

    • @MattBudYT
      @MattBudYT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The funny thing is that it would still be considered a recoil move and reckless boosted. I think 50% damage is a little much for the crash damage maybe 1/3 or 1/4 would be fair.

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    IIRC Mega Drain was buffed a lot in Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee to 75 base power cuz Giga Drain wasn’t in the game. But what if they kept that Mega Drain buff and made Giga Drain even stronger? Like 100 base power or something. That could be interesting
    Also Charging moves like Sky Attack and Solar Beam were buffed to 200 base power in Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee and I find that funny lel

      Matcha Gotcha is I think the highest lifesteal move, and it makes Sinistcha incredibly difficult to deal with. A 100 power Giga Drain with 100 accuracy is completely busted and waaaay too much. I'd go with 80 BP at most, but it's a really good move as is and doesn't need the boost.
      The charging moves are sorta limited by Mental Herb. If you make them too strong, then you have another Z-Move situation where your opponent just has an automatic KO button whenever they want

      @@oireal7261 Matcha Gotcha is tied for the highest power of any draining move with Oblivion Wing, though Oblivion Wing outclasses it in most regards due to it draining 75% of the damage dealt (as opposed to the 50% of Matcha Gotcha) and having 100% accuracy, though Matcha Gotcha still competes thanks to its Scald-esque burn chance.

    • @oireal7261
      @oireal7261 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Hyperneosonic97 Did some research cause I was curious lol. In singles, Matcha Gotcha has 80 BP and Oblivion Wing has 80 BP. In doubles, spread moves are reduced by 25% in power. Matcha Gotcha goes to 60 BP and 120 if it hits both targets. Technically speaking, it is the highest damage spread move. However, Dream Eater is actually the strongest draining move at 100 BP, then Bitter Blade at 90 BP, then Oblivion Wing and Matcha Gotcha (singles) at 80 BP.
      In terms of healing, since Oblivion Wing restores 75% of damage dealt, it would heal for 75 health if it dealt 100 damage for example. For arguments sake, lets say Matcha Gotcha hits both enemy targets and would deal 100 damage to one. That gets reduced to 75 damage (due to doubles modifier) and then 50% of that is healed twice resulting in 37x2=74 health. Healing always rounds down, but always is a minimum of 1, which is why the healing is 37 and not 37.5. In the most technical manner, Oblivion Wing is a better healing move than Matcha Gotcha in the best case scenario.
      This was not worth the effort lol
