I've never had Infinite Warfare, but this is truly sad. Knowing I lost a family member in my life, this is what reminds me of. Me and my grandma that I had. This is really emotional.
It's a great game and while they both survive this situation, they don't survive the game. They sacrifice themselves so that what's left of their crew can escape and blow up the enemy's shipyard. Ethan self-destructs to blow up the docking mechanism while Reyes is blown out into space and hit by debris that breaks his helmet, suffocating him. During the credits there's a series of letters from the dead crew to their families and in his, Ethan talks about how proud he is to have served with Reyes and how he finally knows what it's like to have a family, referencing Reyes calling Ethan his brother. For what it's worth, they DO get their revenge for this in the end: Reyes leads an assault on that ship that left him and Ethan stranded in space. He kills the captain who is the game's main bad guy and hijacks that giant ship for himself. While using it to attack the enemy's shipyard, Reyes leaves Ethan in control of it while he goes outside to defend the ship from attackers. Sadly, both ships are destroyed in the process, but they continue the mission until the shipyard is gone. Out of 767 crewmembers, only 4 survived the game.
