    Very clever. Just got one of these this week. Going to be doing alot of miles, hope it doesn't go wrong... Now obsessed with getting that little eco sign lit up in the cockpit..

    Very ingenious and very clever system of camshaft. We are targeting fossil fuel economy. Next is the electric.

    If you deactivate the actuator cables, is there a problem, or would the car hold up?

      Many fail with less than 3000 km. Mine with 9800 km on Kodiaq 2022. The VW MQ281 is the worst gearbox currently in production.

      Me as octavia owner i deal with an issue at second gear only when the car is cold. I need to put it very smoothly so i wont hear or feel the scratching thing. All though I'm thinking to program the car for the act system. The engine is dpca. @EnVildKat

    Why VW does not recommend overhauling its 1.0 TSI engine, due to the change in the dimensions of the connecting rods, pistons and crankshaft not being in accordance with the original standard, making it necessary to change the engine?

    Two of the four cylinders bear a larger amount of wear due to the fact that those cylinders are always working while the remaining two cylinders are deactivated for a certain period of time. The long term result is an unbalanced wear of cylinders that causes vibrations and other undesired effects. This whole thing of cylinder on-demand is good only in the short term when everything is new and the engine has only a small amount of operating hours. On the long run what you have is an engine with a severely reduced lifespan.

      agree unless they swap cylinders from time to time

    • @XPbIM3
      @XPbIM3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That might not be the case. Deactivated cyliders remains rotating and wearing, while other two works under low-load(and low wearout) conditions. When high-load work is on its way - all cylinders became active - and high load conditions with stress wear applied to all 4 cylinders.

    • @safewaycart
      @safewaycart 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@XPbIM3That might be true, and it might be true also that cylinders do work in pair so symmetry is preserved. What it is certain is that ignitors positioned in the center don't work under modest engine load so they undergo a shorter number of cycles. Consider that the force on the crankshaft bearings is uneven with the external bearing wearing out before the bearing in the middle of the shaft. Not only that but if the shaft is not reinforced it may deform into a shaft with uneven distribution of weights.

    • @alexandremoskovits4123
      @alexandremoskovits4123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Answer: Indeed two of the four cylinders only work, when the ACT is engaged, i.e. on a range, between 10 km / hour and 80 km / h. So at low or very low speed.
      Why ? Because it’s the city center mode, very urban mode.
      Outside this range of use, the ACT will put the four cylinders on the national road or motorway into play.
      So we can say that the wear is low.
      Let’s not forget that ACT may be completely unplugged. And there we find a standard four cylinder.
      Now in time, of course, some wear can be felt ....
      So perhaps, that VW engineers predicted that the cylinders could swap. And there, the wear problem would be uniform and resolved.
      If by then ... less material

    Ich würde gern ein VW Motor mit 150 PS kaufen, aber nicht mit Zylinderabschaltung, Grund, wer die Kurbelwelle ungleichmäßig belastet, hat bald Probleme. Soweit ich gelesen habe, geht VW wieder davon ab. Also arme Willis, die diesen Motor gekauft haben bzw noch kaufen werden. Bei Audi heißt der EA211 wohl COC.

      I had several cars with TSI engines. Never had a problem with them. It depends mainly on the driver and his foot on the gas peddle. TSI engines can't be pushed to the limit if they are cold. So to avoid damage you should keep in mind that you first warm up the engine before you kick the pedal to the metal.
