I love how they keep calling it the "Community Grid OPTION" there is no option, this is the plan they are going with. The EIS is complete and they are releasing it for bidder pre approval in the coming weeks.
I'm not a traffic planner, but the southern portion of the Business loop looks like it's going to cause some problems. It's a very short distance for 3 lanes of traffic that will be going 65mph to join with traffic from the Colvin St ramp and condense down to 2 lanes going. Maybe making the right lanes of the 3 exit only at Colvin St would help. It just looks like it's going to be as much of frustrating bottleneck as the current set-up at Harrison & Adams is now when it's busy. The added traffic light at Dewitt Interchange 3 should really help with traffic there. Traffic getting on and off not having to cross each others paths is definitely needed. The added 690 on and off ramps at Crouse and Irving should help with congestion at Teall Ave.
Can't wait to have my commute time doubled and even more pollution in Syracuse from all the unnecessary stop/go traffic. I'm just glad it's not going to happen for a few years, I've got enough time to move away first.
MLK roundabout at 1:45. Stuff like this drives me insane. You have three lanes going back down to 2 and back to 3 in the span of like 50 feet southbound on the new business 81. WHY? Just have it be 3 lanes the whole way. Why make it 2 lanes for a microsecond and back to 3???
Cute now add a foot of snow the tea bag in a hemi who is late for work (if hes late one more time hes done) 65 college kids with a phone in their face (jaywalking)and a 3 car pile up with 2 dead
All bicyclists get is a glorified sidewalk which forces bicyclists to stop at every cross street and get run over by cars turning right, or cars pulling up to a signal.
Not even a reality and the community is already getting run over in the grid. 2:35 the person crossing E Adams St. Needs an ambulance. 2:57 cars are already running red lights. 3:13 will get in a T-bone or raise money through tickets and the police department. 3:30 cars stop in the middle of the intersection and are jammed waiting on the next intersection light. 4:12 a moving truck enters 690 E and directly proceeds to cross 3 lanes of traffic. 4:20 is a high speed collision between the black and red car. Good luck everyone. But I'm sure this design was just poking fun. I mean these things won't foreshadow anything will they? Will they!
I am not fully understanding how a city, county, or even state has the right to tear down a federally funded interstate highway? We ALL payed for that freeway, not just NY residents? Like many people said, what about emergency response times? There is more things wrong here than right. I am surprised owners of Destiny USA are not fighting this, this is what will probably kill what hopes that mall has to survive. Get out your horse and buggy Syracuse area commuters! Hope you are fighting this! What a disaster!
If you both live and work in the city, this will be great. If you commute from outside maybe not so much. Hopefully more Syracuse workers will choose to live in the city, but some jobs might migrate out as well. More suburbanites may have to choose suburban jobs. There’s always win and lose. Either way commutes will decrease in length and through truck traffic will be reduced. And having once lived directly overlooking that smoking grey-green beast of a viaduct, I’ll be happier once it’s been slain.
Ridiculous, did they install transporters in the Hospitals and SU? Where is all of that traffic? Nice totally unrealistic look at somebody's pipe dream !
I'm open to the idea, but I do have some concerns. Like what about Binghamton- and NYC-bound traffic coming from the West? Will they be forced onto Erie Blvd and Almond St? Or are they supposed to take 690 all the way to the new 81 (currently 481)?
I wish these simulations included pedestrian commuting from home to work also
this is like an old Disneyland concept of "Tomorrowland". But is nothing like the reality of our todays.
This is gonna be a nightmare and death knell for Syracuse
Why Syracuse cover and tunnel I-81?

Its all irrelevant because you wont be able to drive 70 mph down new erie boulevard
@@DS-mo6md the posted speed limit through the whole section that's coming down is 45 mpg.

Stop and Go. Sounds to me like Stubbed Toe.
At 3:30 -- even in this simulation, a truck is blocking Erie Blvd traffic because there's no room for it turning left onto Almond St.

Traffic calming is probably why because you go from 55mph to 30

Yeah, it's really safer for pedestrians to cross an at-grade arterial compared to what was a grade-separated freeway. LMAO
All bicyclists get is a glorified sidewalk which forces bicyclists to stop at every cross street and get run over by cars turning right, or cars pulling up to a signal.
Another black hole project that will end up with an overblown budget and COMPLETELY miss the mark of intention !
Current Almond street looks better for bicycles now than this to be honest.

Bro this is looking so bad, they should either build a tunnel or just rebuild another elevated highway
@@antocapone I would not be surprised if after a while they do build another elevated highway.

OMG. Community Grid is looking like an oxymoron.
I too can make fantasy videos not based on real life. There's no way that's anywhere close to peak morning traffic on 81 north.
You need to keep in mind that not all of the 81 traffic will be driving on the upgraded Almond Street. Thru traffic will be rerouted onto 481.
All the more reason to avoid Syracuse. Same reason I avoid Rochester.
Is this a joke?
Well then... this doesn't at all look like a move we'll ALL come to regret. 🤦🏻♂️
