Sometimes a stop sign is there because of bad vision to the left. If you have good vision to the right and you are turning left, then it may be safe to roll through the stop sign. (The cops will still do you for it though.)

Well if memory of that road serves (s)he was ~20% below the posted speed limit, and ~11% below the red P license limit, and being overtaken on a KLUO-marked road. I expect it wasn't just for a few seconds either given they hopped BACK into the wrong lane again. But this is likely to be at least 50% the fault of the instructors too, who all too often break the same road rule.

Yes, most states 1km over is still speeding, but there is a little give due to not ever speedo is accurately calibrated. Just got to get the right cop I guess.

In fact I remember like 9news or one of those actually enquired about this from each state's police force and most came back with around a 3km/h leeway. Given the car's speedo for most city speeds is about 2-3km/h slower, 5 over is a safe speed for cruise control
5km/h+ over the limit is a ticket. They can technically get you for less but you can fight those tickets. The speed limit is just that here, a limit on how fast you can and should go. So doing over 60 in a 60 zone isn't a good idea.
eric ray I didn’t say they give the 1km over tickets, but yes legally speeding is speeding and if you get an asshole cop, they’ll give it to you. I know in Queensland they don’t need radars. They can guesstimate your speed and fine you based on their perception, just got to fight it in court.

I travel on the German autobahn regularly and if I had to sit on 100kmh I would slit my wrists. So painful coming back to Australia. Especially oblivious drivers sitting in the overtaking lane. Doing that over here you will get a instant fine and you will have to pay with cash on the spot. If you don't have cash they will take you to the nearest bank to get the cash..

Legally you're only required to practice lane discipline when the posted speed is over 80 km/h or when signed. Our lack of discipline is largely a consequence of how our roads are designed, where on suburban roads the leftmost lane is impractical to use as it often ends suddenly due to parked cars, and on motorways the left lane is constantly being fed merging traffic-and we do have a problem of people not getting up to speed before merging.
The sanctimonious arseholes on Australian roads seem to be more intent on policing everybody else's speed (with inaccurate speedo) instead of choosing the correct lane.

Yes, most states 1km over is still speeding, but there is a little give due to not ever speedo is accurately calibrated. Just got to get the right cop I guess.
@@doobee84 I've never heard of 1km over being an issue. In fact I remember like 9news or one of those actually enquired about this from each state's police force and most came back with around a 3km/h leeway. Given the car's speedo for most city speeds is about 2-3km/h slower, 5 over is a safe speed for cruise control
5km/h+ over the limit is a ticket. They can technically get you for less but you can fight those tickets. The speed limit is just that here, a limit on how fast you can and should go. So doing over 60 in a 60 zone isn't a good idea.
eric ray I didn’t say they give the 1km over tickets, but yes legally speeding is speeding and if you get an asshole cop, they’ll give it to you. I know in Queensland they don’t need radars. They can guesstimate your speed and fine you based on their perception, just got to fight it in court.

I travel on the German autobahn regularly and if I had to sit on 100kmh I would slit my wrists. So painful coming back to Australia. Especially oblivious drivers sitting in the overtaking lane. Doing that over here you will get a instant fine and you will have to pay with cash on the spot. If you don't have cash they will take you to the nearest bank to get the cash..

I learnt to drive in Germany. Came back to Australia and my mates told me how easy it is to pass a driving test here. Easier than passing wind. You can't compare Aussie drivers with German drivers.

So my house in Dandenong got broken into three times in the space of four weeks, the bastard cops said literally, to my face "we're not going to look for your stolen items" even after I provided serial numbers... Yet they have all the time and resources in the world to go after speeding drivers for operation revenue raise. To hell with these idiots.

Lane discipline seems to be terrible in Australia
Legally you're only required to practice lane discipline when the posted speed is over 80 km/h or when signed. Our lack of discipline is largely a consequence of how our roads are designed, where on suburban roads the leftmost lane is impractical to use as it often ends suddenly due to parked cars, and on motorways the left lane is constantly being fed merging traffic-and we do have a problem of people not getting up to speed before merging.
