It is interesting to note that the Australian accent has changed drastically since this was made some 45 years ago. We will probably sound a lot more like Americans 45 years from now. 😱😲😨

Those old microphones picked up a lot more "mid-range" frequencies and not so much on the low range or high range, which is why old radio announcers have that stereotypically high pitched voice

Interesting point on the technology involved. Of course any historical film or audio recording brings with it an element of the equipment used at the time of recording. And now the contemporary technology used to disseminate that historical recording must be factored in too. Thanks for bringing that up.

HOOROO TV It depends on what part of Australia you live in. Sydney has a different accent then say, Adelaide where they talk a lot posher.

I think it has more to do with how people thought they should speak in media than on the street, as if there was a mentality that, if they spoke with a clearer and more official tone, they would be taken more seriously than the man in the pub.
You'll still see a big difference in the way newscasters deliver their information. They have a certain rhythm and tone to certain subjects and even though we are use to hearing it, it is completely unnatural for it to come up in casual conversation.

I remember we didn't have TV in Darwin when I lived there in the 60s but they must have done by '72.
