    I love Howard’s feed-n-wax it just makes the wood look so beautiful. I do wood working as well as furniture restoration and that is all that I use to polish my projects.

    This buffet looks so much like one I have in my dining room. If it wasn’t so heavy I would pull it out to look for a label on the back. I can’t wait to refinish it. You have inspired me.

    Those colours matched up beautifully. Another great job as usual. 👍🏻 not sure if you ever get comments on this, but I love the raw sounds of the sanding, scraping and brushing ☺️ nice little bit of ASMR right there, so I’m glad you don’t speed up that process or drown out the sounds with music. Very relaxing.

    As usual excellent execution and excellent presentation! I wish I had found your channel five years ago, perhaps I would then have had the courage to salvage a very nice piece of damaged furniture from my grandparents estate, but alas, now it is lost.
    Another wish: could you, please, consider ending the videos with a brief outline of time expended on the different steps?

    Larry what is the difference between Howard's Feed & Wax, and Tung Oil finish. Your video as usual is on point. You're sooo good.

    • @LostMountainRestoration
      @LostMountainRestoration  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True Tung oil is an oil extracted from a Tung nut. What is mostly sold as "Tung Oil" is a blend of oil, mineral spirits and varnish. It's really a penetrating top coat. Feed and wax is just a blend of wax and orange oil.

    Hello, Larry! I have a dresser with a dark brown round spots on the top,,,, maybe after a glass.. don't know. Tried to remove it with a sander 80 and 100 - was unlucky. Remember you used acetic acid (??) or salicilic acid for this. Could tell me more abt this procedure? Thank you in advance!

    • @LostMountainRestoration
      @LostMountainRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oxalic acid is what I use. You need to take off all of the finish first and light sand. You then mix up a solution of oxalic acid and apply to the entire surface. Let dry. Rinse off with clear water. Let dry. Often this will remove or lighten black rings from water. I show it on a number of videos, but I don't remember which ones off the top of my head - good luck!

    • @lydiaflower6030

      @@LostMountainRestoration Thank you very much! Now a new question - what is the % of oxalic acid you use? I have oxaloacetic acid only. Do you think it will work as well?? My warm regards from a snowing and cold Minsk!

    • @LostMountainRestoration
      @LostMountainRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lydiaflower6030 This is what I use www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0145TH0HM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      I heat water to near boiling and then carefully add just a bit more powder then the water will dissolve. Please, if you choose to use it, follow the instructions on the container and be careful.
      I am unfamiliar with any other oxalic acid other than what I have used and demonstrated. Best regards and stay well.

    I can't say for certain without actually seeing the piece better and a little research, but looking at the way it was built I would say this is from the 1900's. A lot of this piece was machined and the nails don't look period for late 1800's.

    • @LostMountainRestoration
      @LostMountainRestoration  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In general after the late 1800's, it's pretty much manufactured furniture being mass produced. Things like square nails, hand planed panels, pit sawn bords and hand cut dovetails are usually gone unless the piece was hand made. I was comfortable with dating this to 1880 - 1900 based on the construction, data I found on the company, wood species, style, and the family history. But, as you know, dating manufactured furniture accurately can be a bit of a challenge. Thanks for watching and best regards.
