I like raw cards simply because I can have them in a binder and look at them. What fun is it to have a chest of card that you have to haul out and look at one by one. It that's just me

4:47 ive said it before, and ill say it again... the "average" person, cannot tell the difference between a "9-,9.5-,10" with the naked eye (without knowing/seeing the garde).
I find the beauty in "raw cards"

    • @nah4215

Most of them time you’re correct but sometimes the 9 is visibly different than the 10

@nah4215 well yeah, and I get that... but you're also referring to the "exception to the rule".
But I've also "8's" that should be "10's" and I've seen "10's" that should be "7's" which just further shows grading is subjective, and really ONLY comes down to the person grading 🤷‍♂️

It was freeing coming to that realization. That everyone and their mom is doing the same thing holding on to the sameeeee boxes and items. In 5-10 years when everyone goes to dump them all the prices will reflect that

    • @lukylex
      @lukylex 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

NOt true , everyone doesn't dump at the same time. And this isnt a 5-10 year market probably longer . IMO i purchase sealed items only on sale , when they have 20-50% off , and EVERY SINGLE ONE of those items is in the green less than 2 years later given not by much but still up and in the green. Soo its all a matter of what and how you decide to purchase and hold. But this mentality of everyone dumping pokemon at the same time and prices crashing never happened and wont , because people just wont sell unless they absolutely need to most willhold it longer . PATIENCE is what counts

    • @premiumpulls
      @premiumpulls 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@lukylex not everyone is gonna hold long term. A lot of people practice buying and selling in 5-10 year increments (pokevault even made a video on it.) a bunch or “investors” that came in the past 2-3 years will burn out within the next 2-3 years and move on to the next thing. It’s happened before. And will happen again. Modern is everywhere and everyone and their mom was collecting and hoarding stuff from the past couple years when more than half the cards were printed.

    • @lukylex

I concur with your sentiments regarding the saturation of reprinted sets, particularly evident post-"Hidden Fates" era in Pokémon. Nevertheless, it's imperative to examine the allure of distinctive sets such as "Celebrations," "Evolving Skies," "Crown Zenith," and potentially "151" in the future. It's not solely about the contents of these sets but also the duration of their print runs. Interestingly, we seem to echo the same sentiment albeit in different articulations. @@premiumpulls

Most people don’t have the financial responsibility nor discipline to hold onto a collectible for 5-10 years, let alone lone a couple of years. The scalpers scalp when it’s good, they move on & will be back when or if another bubble comes. This wasn’t exclusive to Pokemon during the pandemic, nor are bubbles, fads, whatever you want to call them exclusive to the pandemic. This happened in the car used with sought after enthusiast cars, it happened with high end collected watches, it happened with pc parts like GPUs, etc. The scalpers got out as soon as they saw the supply & demand changed & the prices started to return to normal. The ppl that were caught holding the bag are the ones who only came in bc of the bubble & spent too much money on product thinking that the market would continue to rise. These types are the ppl who are the fire sellers, they can’t afford to wait 2-5 years to see a return on their “investments”, so they will continue to sell to stop or recoup their losses. The people who were into the hobby before the bubble &/or actually enjoy the hobby, those are the ones who will continue to collect & they will be the ppl who will have sealed/wanted product that they can sell in 5+ years whether the hobby is as popular as it was in 1999, 2020, or not.
These “investors” that popped up within past 5 years are only partly right about sealed product gaining value, but there’s no way to tell what will be in demand for it in the future. It was the same for Neo Geo, of course the boosters boxes would increase in value but no one knew that there would be people willing to pay 100x their price in 20 years.

As for the vintage quantifier thing, I cut it off at Black & White since that's when card design changed to what it is nowadays. Full Arts started, Abilities, the modern Trainer system, etc all made. Black & White is also the oldest playable set in a supported play format (expanded). That's my take anyway

Black & White isn’t even vintage yet… Jesus XY Vintage…
Pokémon as a damn company can barely be considered vintage (40 years, NOT 20… this is agreed upon statistics definition by actual auctioneers, you know the people that work with vintage/antique stuff as a career); but for the sake of the company’s age, I’d absolutely consider 20 years an ok qualifier for vintage in this case.
So EARLY EX (2004 and before) for now.
E-series is absolutely vintage though and not just in age, it uses a hardware gimmick for crying out loud. Which by that I mean to say that the company was still in its infancy trying that kind of thing out (cool IMO, but mostly a failure hardware side and common for businesses to try many niche things early on!), therefore quite young and now “old/vintage”, haha.
People that say XY is vintage really irk me. I love Nate but when he said that a few weeks back… come on bro, you’re better than that!
Note: Here comes a LONG info dump you all might find interesting:
Sometimes I’ll see FE packs and think to myself; “Surely this can’t be that rare… it still feels so modern in my eyes, lol”. I was ripping into THOUSANDS of FE base too: 9,756 FE Base Set packs is what I opened over 13 months to be exact actually. Additionally, I have my figures/data up to 2004’s Fire Red Leaf Green set, but after that set I quit the hobby as I was starting to get very busy with college and didn’t have time to invest/enjoy anymore, and girls… them too.
It was super easy to do that when you’re only paying around $0.90¢/pk wholesale (keep in mind the MSRP of base set wasn’t much different than today at around $4 for FE product)… We bought A LOT!
Wondering how? I would be too don’t worry, haha.
Not only did my dad own a card shop (that I grew up in) but so did his brothers/my uncles 3 states over in opposing directions, lol. Between him and them, they ordered THOUSANDS OF CASES each time a set was released. I would like clockwork every 2.5 months see WOTC personnel personally drop by to get numbers from him for the upcoming sets as they had to essentially dedicate a crap ton alone to us.
They’d run a single print line assembly for those 3 stores for around 3 weeks alone, lmao. My dad delegated for his brothers (he already had MTG contracts set up before this for years) and my uncles would come pick up their portion/pay him when visiting every so few months. It was a pretty good excuse to get together for the family, I’d say!
Obviously product at the stores would be sold/traded and the like as normal; but what really brought the money in was exporting… hence why I ripped so much product (my 3 cousins did the same but I’d always beat them each by around 1,500 packs/set on average, lmao.
When a trinity pull was only effectively costing around $4.75¢ on average (as a reliable example); but sold around $9-12/$19 peaks per single overseas in places distribution wasn’t great with yet or non existent (Guam), it was a pretty sweet return. Especially when you are BULK shipping them bad boys and your handler contacts were solid people and gave very respectable pricing for their part in it, lol.
Random fun fact: 77.6% Zard spawn rate in the Vena packs. People always suspected, but there’s your actual hard proof from 39,643 packs, lmao.
My dad drilled taking notes on EVERYTHING ad nauseum into me growing up; but more than that, I actually just love numbers to boot.
Hope this was an interesting insight into Pokémon lore. I know a lot more, but my fingers are hurting, lol.
    Ok, one more…
King Pokémon/Gary’s recent video about something he didn’t mention for many years due to possible abuse (re: light packs having holos in certain boxes/cases), I had actually known about; and knew the exact reason: Chinese quality control issues in ink sources in Beijing, along with quality reduction in the paper substrate from the redwood forest trees that wasn’t well regulated then caused weight discrepancies is what it boiled down to.
I’ll end this “novel” with saying to NOT believe anyone when they say that even base FE is about to run out. We are fucking 20 years off from that happening (at the current market rate of sales/openings). I’d wager there’s probably more than 5,000 CASES of base set alone.
Not just those either, stuff like Skyridge is more abundant than you’d think/been told. Yes, it’s a more short printed set, but you gotta remember that this franchise has dominated and had a MASSIVE user base (meaning they would print A LOT) since the very beginning. Even a short print was still millions of cases guys.
EVERY SET SINCE THE DAWN OF THIS WHOLE THING HAS BEEN PRINTED INTO OBLIVION, EVEN FE. The only difference why their prices are even this high right now is 1) We didn’t take care of the cards like we do now and 2) Lots of people are still sitting on it.
An old acquaintance of my friend’s family that is in the “biz” that I talked to a couple of years ago during the big boom, sold 2 cases of his FE Base set; but is still sitting on the other 26 CASES that he owns until he needs/wants the money for whatever project/investment that he fancies next, lmao. He’s not the only one, there’s thousands of people just like him holding warehouses of the stuff.
Good news for the REAL FANS however. In the next 5-10 years, singles for even Vintage will plummet based on many factors/variables I’ve looked at; and singles will return closer than ever to where its price point truly belongs!
Sealed is a done deal though. That boat has long sailed and will never go back. It’ll be drip-fed for the next few decades before it truly is almost all gone (remember, vintage is nowhere near depleted yet).
No idea why I typed all this… lol lack of sleep and just walking down memory lane I suppose.
    Have a good one all!

Perhaps this perspective might not be popular, but I strongly disagree with the notion that you're not unique or special. Let me elaborate. I have a passion for collecting Pokémon card artwork that resonates with me. Rather than focusing on completing full sets, my collection is a tapestry of cards from various sets and years, each telling a distinct story that reflects my personal journey. Similarly, consider those who customize cars. While many may own a Honda Accord, it's the unique modifications that distinguish one from another and convey a narrative of individuality.
It appears this person has veered off course in making Pokémon their own, prioritizing exclusivity over personal expression. If the need for uniqueness stems solely from possessing what others lack, it's a pity. Your journey of acquiring these cards, along with your distinctive opinions and choices, is what truly sets you apart. There's no obligation to complete entire sets or display them in a prescribed manner-being true to yourself is what defines your uniqueness.

Me : Look this Mawile V
People : Is there anything special?
Me : For me yeah, 1 ETB and that's the only chase card I got.
I think as long as you can categorize whatever you collect, you have your own collection.
I have a binder full of Standard V, Vmax, Vstars. categorized by type. Have misc binder that stores whatever chase card I pulled. I like my jumbo cards binders. ETB boxes.
Is it cheap? yes. Does it look great? Yes. That's enough. I think sometimes I prefer the normal V, Vmax to Art Rares. They have orderly looks if put in 1 spread.

this was a nice one to have on in the background. Some interesting points were made for sure. I think you are correct in the general sense that the wild prices on certain things are just people seeing big price, and they think "oh thats special because big price, I want it too" and it isn't for the love of the card, but the fomo and the perception. And as far as the modern Alt arts and SARs I do wonder how many exist vs. 1st edition cards from wotc era or something like the gold stars or the other previous era full art things when print runs were not nearly as big, but much easier to get from a box. I wasn't around back then, but from what I understand you could have pulled a master set in a booster case or less up until the sword and shield era.

Some of these statements are stupid af. If you are buying a few sealed items at MSRP at a sets release it's pretty much always smart if you hold it. Evolving is already up to almost 700 a box. If everyone has it why arent they dumping it now that its 6x + its retail price just a few years ago? Pokemon is big enough to where demand will be there for these few big sets that people want. I mean fusion strike is 250 per booster box right now double its retail in only a few years and that set was printed to the moon. So that statement is already proven false.
Maybe for the bottom half of the regular sets but sets like evolving and hidden fates are bad examples. Its already proven to be a great idea for those who did that because they are tripling their money minimum 😂😂😂. Also vintage cards like shadowless 1st ed cards and 1st ed wotc chase cards will always hold its value.

There are plenty of other products that have performed fantastically. Chilling Reign booster boxes used to be readily available under $100 a couple of years ago-now they’re $175 on the low end. Similar situation with Brilliant Stars, and now sets like Fusion Strike and the later Trainer Gallery sets are following suit. As long as Pokémon remains popular all of these products will gain significant value over time (and we’re certainly not going to need to wait a decade).

Exactly, there is a long list of modern products that have almost doubled in price in under 3 years

@@wyattcorneliusoh I agree it will gain a minimal value. I just don’t have time or space to hold a booster box for $50 profit over a 4 year span. I’m talking true profit not pennys

@miller3441 I don’t think there will be many examples of BB’s only going up by 50 dollars over 4 years.
Most BB’s do a lot better than that.

Did you buy a card for $2k that dropped down to $10 is that why you bring it up all the time?

That TCA Gaming dude use to always push badly graded cards in his online store. I remember watching some videos of his and he would even agree it was a bad grade but it was a 10 and a 10 is a 10. Then proceeds to sell it as a 10. Kinda bad for one of the big names in the pokemon card world.
