You May Have the Tithe Wrong - What God Told Me About Tithing | Troy Black

  • The Holy Spirit spoke to me a prophetic word about the tithe, offerings, and biblical stewardship. What God showed me about tithing in the bible may come as a surprise, as this word is different from what most of us may have grown accustomed to in the modern American church.
Note: In this video, I say Jesus only talks about tithing one time, but I misspoke. He also mentions tithing in Luke 18:12.

You do not fear God he told you to write about the time but you never said what the scripture says about who's supposed to tithe and what's supposed to be tied he told you the foundation was wrong and you're afraid to say it you're going to pay for it he told Ezekiel if you don't say what I tell you to say and they die in their sin you're going to be accountable. Quit trying to be a man pleaser like your pastor and everybody else and try pleasing God. You're not telling the truth about time no one ever ties except those who raised animals and grew crops. There's no scripture that says you're supposed to tithe your wages that you earned it's not there brother quit not telling the truth or you going to hell that's what the Bible says but you don't want to hear it you're afraid to pray and ask God if you're right or wrong the god you're listening to is not the god I listen to cuz he told me to tell you this I don't gain nothing from telling you this except your blood's off my hands you're wrong and your soft open the word of God being a people pleaser. You're afraid of people not God.

It’s important to understand WHY we do what we do so we can challenge ourselves to know what. BREAKS us when things get hard. Troy thank you for your obedience in sharing this message. My husband learned this years ago through an experience where he had ask the church he was tithing to where the money was going. They told him it was none of his business. God spoke to him that he should indeed know. So he decided to set up a bank account just for the tithe. He tithed off of his gross income including what he paid his employees. He would listen for God to speak to him on where to give his money. One day God spoke to him to give more than what was in that account. He said "God, you don't have that much in your account." God didn't respond. He then realized that EVERYTHING he owned belongs to God. From that point on he listens to God on how to give and what to give. There is great importance in listening to Holy Spirit, whom Jesus Himself said would be the one to lead us into ALL the truth. The one thing missing greatly in the church is truly teaching people to seek to hear God's voice and obey what He says. God does speak specific commands to us as individuals. He has specific plans for each of us. We can only know those specific plans if we hear them from Him. I pray that His family, we can trust and believe in God's ability to lead us by His Spirit. 🙏

This is exactly what I had heard about in the church that I grew up in. A lady asked where the money was going and the church elder coldly and seemingly hatefully told her it was none of her business. If it were me, I would have said, okay, if it is none of my business, I will give it somewhere else.

    • @gianaturella237
      @gianaturella237 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@DebraB406 actually after writing this comment the Lord lead me back to Deuteronomy where it talks about the curses and blessings of breaking and keeping the law. I was reminded that when you break one law, you have broken them all. I am realizing that by teaching tithing as law, or as some may refer to it as a "requirement"(which is basically a law) that could bring a curse upon you, ministers are doing a very dangerous thing. People are being taught to keep this one law when they are most likely breaking all others. We are either under the whole law or not. To bring forth and keep the tithe itself as law or requirement is keeping people tied to the whole law. People need to understand that not tithing does NOT mean don't give. Ministers need to trust God for provision for what HE has called them to, not manipulate the people to give by using one law that somehow transferred into the new testament when other laws didn't. This is very dangerous. Listening again to this video, Troy said God told him he was removing a FOUNDATION stone from the church. That is a major thing. Yes we need to communicate in love, but ministers should realize the severity of what is happening here. God has been for centuries trying to get His people to LISTEN and OBEY His VOICE. Jeremiah even points that out in the old testament. When Jesus left, God gave us His Holy Spirit to live within us that we can be guided by Him daily. That should be emphasized far more than tithing. If people were taught with the same fervency to listen to the Holy Spirit daily, our entire world would be very different right now. There would be more than enough provision for what God wants done because people would be giving according to obedience rather than manipulation (fear of being cursed) and the blessings would flow freely and abundantly. Even to give out of the goodness of our hearts could still be too much or too little. Holy Spirit knows the exact amount and will gladly tell us. The word says He will not withhold one good thing from us. It's a good thing to know what mount of money to give to WHEREVER GOD wants the money to go. Let's not forget the widows, sojourners, orphans, prisoners, and the sick. That's a whole other subject!

I am glad I saw this video, for years I went to a church where they did teach on faithfully tithing and you couldn't even be involved in ministry if you weren't a faithful tithe payer. I remember one Sunday after church services, my husband and I were invited over to the pastor's house. When we got there, we were lectured about the importance of paying your tithes and was told that if we didn't pay our tithes, that we were under a curse. This conversation with the pastor lasted about 2 hours. When my husband and I left there, we were fearful that God had placed a curse on us and this is the reason why we don't have this or don't have that. For years, my husband and I were beat upside the head with Malachi about being cursed with a curse and I always thought I was cursed. It took years to be free of living in fear of bad things would always happen to us because sometimes we didn't pay our ten percent. Thank you for this video, my husband and I give out of love for Christ and we give cheerfully. I thank God for his word and may God continue to use you in this time.

I,m sorry paula today that you were subjected to this, nowhere in the new covenant is tithing taught to the new testament church. We are redeemed from the curse by our Lord Jesus Christ(Gal 3:13.)To tell you the truth, those who tithe according to Malachi are cursed because they are putting themselves under the law of Moses as our brother stated. Now people say they do it for right motives but it does not change the fact they are sinning, yes sinning doing it because they walk away from grace and put themselves under law. They go into darkness and when the sin is full grown it brings forth death. All these things are discussed in Galatians and the new testament. It was a constant challenge the apostles faced keeping the people from being put under Moses law. Those who espouse it are deceived at best and theives at worst. My brother talks of unity and it is important but also deception is to be exposed,This sin will send many in the end to be estranged from Christ.(Gal 5:1-11)v 4 particularly.

This is a subject I have had on my mind. I am so glad you shared this today. You have no idea. I have seen people who are checking all the boxes yet I’ve never seen them show a real sense of love and generosity to Christ’s brothers’ and sisters’. I, like you, would pay my tithing when I was babysitting at the age of 12. I thought I would be punished if I didn’t. Another example, my 76 year old Mother was crying and she said “I’m not going to Heaven. I don’t pay my tithing”
It made me so sad. I thought oh my goodness, this is not what it’s all about. Some people really can’t afford it. But, like you said, it’s what is in your heart. Anything you can give, and I don’t believe it has to be monetary. Maybe you can help someone who needs some extra assistance due to age or illness. Pray for guidance and ask God to lead you to who needs your help. Things like that have always made more sense to me. Thank you, Troy for another great video.

However, I would go go further by saying that the tithe law was strictly for the tribes of Israel and has nothing to do with Christians. Christians aught to give cheerfully out of love and not out of any commandment.
I only recently subscribed to Troy and I discern he is quite genuine.

When you are obedient to God He blesses you more abundantly, my husband and I are blessed since we started paying our tithes, from our pension. Glory to God, thank you Lord Jesus.

Mind you, this was not in accordance to the law but God was testing my obedience and strengthening my Faith in Him at the time. I still give 10% out of obedience to what God told me that day but I don’t believe this is a requirement to all. God does things to test our hearts and obedience and trust in Him. It was a personal conviction. Listening to this helps though because I felt bad because there were times when I wasn’t able to give. God won’t condemn. This now reminds me to ask and seek the Lord before I give. Thank you for this video.

Don’t be so quick to believe Troy even though he means well and is a man of God, but take into consideration this biblical perspective since you and Troy mention the word “give” when it comes to tithing as if it is a sacrifice or offering and you don’t really owe God something or all of the money is yours, God said “BRING the tithes” in Malachi 3:10 not “give the tithes” because tithing is about bringing back as in “returning” what was God’s in the first place not “giving” like an offering. Tithing didn’t start with the Law but actually started with Abraham and his relationship with the Lord way before the Law came in which Troy does not talk about, Jacob also practiced it and was blessed, so if tithing went all the way back to Abraham because God taught it to them then it’s not about being under the old covenant law but about being in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ as a way of drawing closer to Him... and God also wants us to walk in the steps of Abraham like Paul says in Romans “but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham”. So for example, say that you borrowed my car keys for a drive and then came back to me and said “hey I really felt led by God to give you these car keys and bless you” that would sound strange because I would think “umm no you’re not giving me MY car keys you ‘brought’ me them because you owed them”. When God says “bring the tithes” he’s saying you’re not “giving” it to me, you’re “returning” what was already mine and I’m just letting you keep the rest of the 90% because I’m a good loving Father of grace. If you don’t return the 10% then you become a thief and that’s why God said in Malachi “you have ROBBED me in TITHES and offerings” and then he says “you are cursed with a curse for you have robbed me” so you end up cursing yourself if you don’t immediately separate your financial increase in what belongs to the Lord (just like you would bring curses upon your life and allow the enemy to get into your life with the sin of gambling), therefore if you were given $100 it should be natural to put aside $10 without hesitation (as natural as it is to put your clothes on in the morning - you don’t think too much about it) as if you are seeing the person actually really giving you $90 because you quickly in your mind automatically subtracted what was God’s the moment you knew you were receiving it (now if you understood real true biblical tithing like this then there can never be an excuse to forget to do it or not be able to do it). This principle of the Kingdom of God is to keep your heart in check with your money because God owns everything and returning the 10% is a way of trusting and acknowledging him, then he will bless the rest of the 90% and you should be and feel GRATEFUL, not feel “generous” like you are giving in generosity what is yours but “grateful” in wanting to worship him because he was the one being generous in letting you keep the rest of what was always his. If you’re continually obedient just with tithing then your heart will stay prepared in humility to give an offering of 50% or even 100% if he asks you to one day.

I think the tithe should only go to your local church; offerings can go anywhere, but if your church is Spirit-filled and Spirit-led, why not just give all your offerings to your local church too, or at least most of them. Tithe ( 10% of gross income) is different from offerings. Tithe goes to your local church. Offerings can go to any Spirit-led of Spirit-filled ministry that is teaching/preaching the gospel. But if your church is Spirit-led and Spirit-filled and preaching/teaching the gospel, why not give most of your offerings there also? I'm sure they have ministries ( like Children's church, youth ministry, etc.) or missionaries that they support. For offerings ( not tithe), you can specify where it goes ( like to which ministry) in the church. Or for an offering ( not tithe), you could say " this offering goes for any ministry in the church that you need it for." I don't think you should specify what they use the tithe for; that is for the leaders to choose what to do with it and they will be held accountable to God for how they use it.

The Old Testament is clear about tithing. CHURCHES have established budgets based on 10% from most members who give, but if they gave as the Lord purposed in their heart, the church can't have huge multimillion dollar budgets because the amounts would be different each week. The bottom line is CHURCHES have trusted in people instead of God. Whatever God ORDAINS, He MAINTAINS so if it's His CHURCH, He is FAITHFUL to keep the DOORS open for His WORK to be DONE.

Blessed is the person who has never gone to church, whose parents, grandparents etc., never went to church and never was shaped, twisted, and warped by religious dogma handed down and taught from generation to generation, who one day received Jesus into his heart, and truly received Him as a little child. With a new found hunger that person could begin to read, study, and mediate in God's word and follow the Holy Spirit's teaching of Jesus. That person could receive miracles from Jesus with a purer, child-like faith. Personally, the church has served to screw-up my walk with Jesus and make walking by faith and being led of the Holy Spirit difficult, very hard, extremely complicated, and complex, with its recipes, witch's brews, and twelve step programs to serving and pleasing God. I have had many a shouting match at God, not with God, mind you, but at God. I can't count the times that in anger and frustration, I cused, not cursed, God out, and I mean I really railed on Him, until I had completely vented that build up of anger and frustration. I am still here and living. Nope not struck down with a lightning bolt by God. I question God much and I question Him often. I want whoever reads this to know that my walk with Jesus has never been better and stronger. By questioning what I have been taught through out my life about God, that very questioning has made it possible for me to discover Jesus in an intimate and personal way that I was not able to know Him before. Jesus has been working in me steadily by renewing my mind in His word, and is continuing to slowly break man's religion that has been so deeply entrench into my mind and soul, and give me a glimmer of hope, and allowed me to glimpse His light of truth for my life, and even then on many days, I think that I would benefit from professional therapy. I have truly begun to love people because that is what Jesus wants me to do. I deeply love Jesus in a way that goes much deeper than the superficial, surface love of the past, and more important than my love for Jesus, that continually grows daily, is my deeper understanding of just how much that Jesus loves me. I ask Jesus to continually reveal to me His love for me, and now I am able to begin to love other people because of the way that Jesus loves me. Keep on keeping on Troy. You be the man, one of God's men. I respect what your saying, and I respect that you are being faithful to what God is calling you to do and to say. God bless you.

@@frick6946 There's not one verse of scripture in the New Testament that instructs believers to pay tithes. Tithing is not in the Ten Commandments, that were brought forward after the cross. Tithing is an ordinance of the law, "For I testify again to every man that is circumcised [an ordinance], that he is a debtor to do the WHOLE law [ALL the ordinances]" Gal. 5:3. Paul says if you bind yourself to one ordinance of the law [as paying tithes] you bind yourself to do ALL the ordinances [and there are over 600 listed in the Old Testament]. When Jesus died on the cross, He done away with the ordinances of the law, "Blotting out [banishing] the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it [the law of ordinances] to his cross;" Col. 2:14 The age of law died on the cross, and the age of grace was born. "Every man according as he purposeth [determines], in his heart, so let him give; NOT grudgingly, or of necessity [tithing was a necessity of the law]: for God loveth a cheerful giver [not payer]" 2 Cor. 9:7, you don't GIVE tithes, you PAY them. Thanks for preaching this. Me and my wife were faithful tithers until our son was born and our childcare expenses overtook us. I tried to believe for a miracle believing God would miraculously fill in the gap and attempted to give the same amount as before. However that month we didn't just encounter a tremendous number of overdrafts, but $240 in just the overdraft fees alone nearly sucking our savings dry. I didn't tell my wife any of that and struggled with the guilt of failure thinking I didn't tithe with enough faith. Our finances improved some as our careers progressed so we made our meager savings back, but never tithed as generously and still carry some credit card debt. Being the one managing our account I struggled with my giving disobedience and never shared it. Internalizing it as my failure led me to stress, not taking proper care of my body, and developing an auto-immune disorder I still struggle with that put me through six hospitalizations. I try to take a faith approach in everything, confess that I am healed and God will make our finances stronger to give to every good work. But this autoimmune disorder caused me to stay home from many family vacations and robbed our finances with medical bills. I really needed this kind of teaching to remind me I'm still loved and that Jesus is my righteousness, not my works or lack thereof. I'm resilient, I've been through way more medical turmoil than I can post here, and believe I'm completely healed and God will make all this go away some day. But some days it's hard to find my joy. I've also questioned why God would give us a son, a blessing from Him, if He knew it would tax our finances to the point it'd interfere with His tithe. Thanks for helping set me free from all that. One of my chains just got weaker.

I still give an offering to the church that I can afford regularly. Praise God

Let Confirm the words of God from both of The *Old* & *New* Testament at the first :
      God said in Malachi 3:10,
“Bring all the tithes into the
storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” *Says The LORD* of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
      (Please check on 3:8-11 also)
These words👆 wasn’t a Law from Moses, but it was The Words which from The Mouth 👄 of God Directly...
      👆Old Testament
      👇New Testaments:
*Heaven & earth will pass away* but
*My Words* will by *No means pass away* . - Mathew 24:35
      ............Lord Jesus declared:
Do not think that I came *to destroy* the LAW or the PROPHETS.
I did *Not* come *to Destroy*
but *To Fulfill* . -Mathew 5:17
      So,
We know that: God do Not Lies.
The revelation about this video in my heart is :
There is plentiful Churches ⛪️ ministries, Pastors which *wasn’t called by God* , but they Ordained themself for their own profits( which in purposes for their own wealth gain or Self honoring & much more comes from their worldly flesh desires, which leads by demons to astray the way of God and destroying many souls whom in following them).
So as these👆kind of worldly reason, people might *Avoid* decrease their own daily bread🥯 💵 to gives to those wrong places.. in this case, If the Holy Spirit guides you to gives *Offering to those True* servant of God whom in spreading the Gospel, it shall be a pleased things in God sight, the Scripture in The NewTestament:
“He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall *Receive a prophet’s reward* .
And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall *Receive a righteous man’s reward* .
And whoever *Gives* one of these little ones only a cup of cold water💧in the name of a disciple, *assuredly* , I say to you, he shall by *no means lose his reward* .”
      ‭‭- Matthew‬ ‭10:41-42‬ ‭
So if you give Offering More than 10% , God will be pleased for your heart for to support those whom in spreading Gospel for Souls harvest. It is in The Purpose of *Filling up the house of God* already as Malachi 3:10.
Then, *Tithes* or *Offering* shall become as a Title only. Because your heart to support to spreading the Gospel for the souls is the fulfillment of the Commandments of God in His abounding blessings💗🕊

I then understood that God does things to us His children purely out of love and compassion because we are His children not because we are good or faithful . He is our father and He provides for us. I remember that during that time when He showed up for me i skipped my tithe for that month. According to me i was not deserving that favour, but He showed up and showed off because He is our father. His love and faithfulness does not depend on our faithfulness or our unfaithfulness ,He is forever loving and faithful. Since then it's close to 4yrs now i have never skipped my tithe! Thank you, Troy, for sharing your heart. Personally, I give my tithe, my offerings and my alms joyfully to the Lord, because I love Him. He knows that all He has to do is ask and I will immediately give whatever He desires. When I did not give my tithe for a season, I struggled financially. The moment I began tithing in obedience to God's Word, I immediately began to be blessed in my finances. I can recall when the Holy Spirit convicted people for not giving their tithes. The moment they obeyed God, He turned their finances around. I agree with much of what you are saying, but so many believers are looking for a way not to give even ten percent of their income at all!

when you said you struggled financially when you didn't tithe ( 10% of your gross income), says it all; I'm afraid this teaching will draw people away from tithing and giving offerings to their local church and then they will struggle and not be in God's will. Jesus is our High Priest now ( see Hebrews 5, 6 and 7). The tithe was instituted before the Jewish Levite law, when Abraham gave tithes ( plural) to Melchizedek. See Hebrews 7:6 to see the word " tithes" for when Abraham gave.

I've been tithing ever since I became a christian in my youth. It's only now after 40 years that I've been seeking God re tithing. Abraham tithed before the law and he is the father of faith. Though there is no more a literal temple, we (believers) are the temple of the Holy Spirit. So I thought of giving to a brother in need... until I was reminded of the scripture, "The laborer is worthy of their wages." and Paul asks in 1 Cor 9:11 "If we have sown spiritual things amng you, is it too much if we reap material things from you?" Therefore, I still find it right to tithe to my local church where I get my spiritual feeding or to the one God directs me to give it to.

Troy, you are an insightful young man. The discernment you have comes from the time you spend with the Holy Spirit, and in the word. This video has helped me, I have recently became a representative payee for a mentally disabled senior lady whom I love and cherish like a sister. Her previous rep payee didn’t tithe off her income, she said the Lord didn’t tell her to, and I wrestle with that. Me, as the person who is accountable to God for how I manage her finances, feel that tithing should be done, no matter what, but this lady doesn’t have the capacity to understand the concept or the principles behind tithing, so she would most likely not agree to do it. So, I am taking my heart to God, and asking Him to show me if it’s out of legality that I feel I must tithe her money, or basically what my heart motive is. It’s always about the heart. So, thank you, you’re helping.... blessings....

Say it because God tells you what to say, and not what to say. Many prophetic or visions and dreams Christians have, and when they go to TH-cam or Facebook and preach, they apologized and say sorry, to the audience as if its their own words. Its not your words, it belongs to God, say AS IS. Do not think, you are dividing people, or that you are better than others, or you are better this or that...say it the way God wants you to share and we listen okay? I agree, tithing is an OT teaching and commandment we incorporated into the New Covenant. With tithing we are mixing law and faith. No where in the New Testament letters do you see the command to tithe, if tithing was commanded for the Church don’t you think the NT writers would have put it in the New Covenant. All the scriptures Troy shared are biblical. The New Testament teaches us to give to the church cheerfully, we are to give financially so the church is blessed but the gift is not a set amount as it was in the Old Testament. The tithe is law we are not under the law Jesus spoke on the tithe in NT as it related to the law. I was in bondage to tithing until the Holy Spirit and teachers of the word pointed it out to me. If it makes you feel better to tithe 10% go ahead but it’s not a commandment. We give willfully and cheerfully out of the heart, excellent teaching!

Amen brother that is a message that the Lord had me bring to a church in San Diego last year... he's been sending me to deliver messages to churches"
this is basically what happened ...now these words that I used for them were the words he gave me... And some are mine but you know the difference
.. my words are not his words and his words are not my words.
    "Jesus paid it all...
There's no requirement to tithe .
It's what we should feel like we should do as cheerful giver & a follower and a believer in Christ to further the kingdom and help the church.
It should come from the righteousness, transformation of us as followers from old to new & through the nudging of the Holy Spirit.
I realized myself that I am blessed more when I tithe as Jesus said I would be.
He provides for me so in good conscience I should tithe.
I am so grateful to him. I want him to be happy and pleased with me, I want to be helpful to others and it gives me joy to give and serve... all glory to God!
It comes with the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your savior and the Holy Spirit as your guide, before when we used to take now we want to give.
That's a fruit of the Spirit, the transformation of not feeling like you have to but feeling like you want to through through seeing and witnessing the difference and blessings.
I went to a church in San Diego The Rock Church where the pastor was basically mentally emotionally and spiritually beating people down into tithing.
Saying that they will not be blessed and that they are stealing from the Lord and that they will not see heaven.
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG, UNTRUE AND WICKED.
The Lord had me deliver his message of grievance to that church."

Thanks Brother Troy for the confirmation. I have been saying the same also whenever tithing is preached in bible studies. Giving should be Spirit led and since God owns everything we have, we should be always ready to give when led. There is even now a teaching of tithing from gross vs from net. Like you mentioned, if this is supposed to make us fear we are not following the law, then it is not Spirit led, but if the Spirit asks us to give a percent from gross or net, just obey and do it with a joyful heart. God bless brother!

I was worried until you got to the middle when you started talking about giving out of obedience. I was wondering if I heard God wrong. When I first got saved, I read scriptures that also convinced me that I was no longer obligated to tithe. But then the Holy Spirit told me to. I disregarded it. I felt a “hold back” from God and asked what was up. He said that I told you to tithe, so I started doing it, although with the wrong attitude and motives which He has since changed. Now and then He asks me to give specific amounts over that either to the church or specific people. He’s really blessed me letting me see other people He’s blessing through me. Once I praying before work about a financial situation of someone and God said that I couldn’t just pray for him if I had the ability to help. So when I got to work, I asked him how much he needed. I wrote him a check for part of it then went on break and God said, no, give him the full amount he said he needed. I went back in and did and the guy cried and told me his story about His obedience to sacrificially give what God told him to give and how God uses me to restore all that and more, meeting his need. God’s also been delivering me from greed and teaching me that it really is better to give than receive.

So many of the Lord's people tithe out of generational habits, habits of error I like to say: the church is so divided on many areas of doctrines that it's sad to watch. True the division is sound doctrine according to the bible, but what's missing is the RIGHTLY DIVIDING the word of truth. God bless you my brother.

This is so good. I don't believe it's a sin not to give, but God's word says that you should give, and give *happily out of love* (2 Corinthians 9:7) and *obligation* to Him. If it's done out of fear, the expectancy of blessings, and/or for bragging rights, that doesn't sound right to me. In that case, I think it's better not to give at all and then seek God about your intentions for giving. In Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus Christ also states that you shouldn't brag about giving, but just keep it between you and God. God bless everyone who's reading this in Jesus' name and remember: Maintain your contact with God. Always. It's vital.
