    I'm not sure if you have ever mentioned this, but a lot of places have CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) You can setup with them and have fresh produce delivered weekly. If there is a shortage at the grocery stores then these will continue to provide produce to you even when the grocery stores are out. Something to consider.

    I’m a 3500 acre corn and soybean farmer in north central Indiana. Corn used in ethanol production is still used to produce food. All ethanol has a by product called dry distillers grain which is a high protein feed for cows and hogs. I feed them to my cows and they fatten up well!

    Get yourself an older vehicle with points and condensers without a computer, preferably a stick shift. As long as you can get some gas, you'll be able to keep rolling. But beware, someone will want what you have!

    • @joedoe7041

      I'll add if you get an older vehicle. upgrade the engine seals and hoses to take ethanol fuel, as it's a fuel source that can be made at home with a bit of homework.

    In an emergency, you need to keep yourself clean. Retain you plastic bottles to save water for washing up. Milk bottles are not reusable for drinking water but water for washing... Also bottles for cleaning supplies, bleach, vinegar, etc.

    When it comes to game meat. Here in the UK, probably less than 1% of people like myself have the weaponry (Hunting bow or Rifle) to be able to hunt big & small game, so I believe hunting as an option would be much more sustainable, which is why I'm learning hunting skills & knowledge.

    • @McRod-1
      @McRod-1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is not enough big wild game to feed the general public.

    • @Maddie_Madds
      @Maddie_Madds 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@McRod-1 maybe not in the US as at least 50% of the population has guns so big game would be wiped out much much faster. But in the UK however, the culture is different. Guns, Crossbows, Hunting Bows are hugely frowned upon, so much less that 1% of us have them. So only a miniscule percentage of us in the UK have the firepower capable to hunt big game, so the big game population will most likely be better off. Most people in the UK still think food comes from the supermarket.
      Deer especially are overpopulated in the UK because they currently have no predators.

    I am surprised by the lack of discussion about skilled manual labor and the tools required on so many prepping channels.
    How about interviewing some back yard smiths, leather workers, gardeners, small animal keepers, weavers, tanners, rope makers, and all those skills required to keep a village alive?
    Or if anyone can point me to the channels that do these things. My wife and I garden, preserve food, have planted fruit bushes, canes, vines and trees. We shoot and I reload. She crochets, has done some weaving and rug braiding. I've done a little brick work, but am no where near skilled.

      While water is available, I've heard you can rinse well and/or soak to remove a lot of salt in the product, as in when you are rotating your food. When water (and food) gets scarce, you can save the higher sodium water that is in the can with the food to season and hydrate other unseasoned foods.

    Tips from having lived in a bad neighborhood:
    Assuming you don't drive something high-end, the best camo is to ask fast-food joints for extra wrappers, cups and napkins. Throw this stuff everywhere in the car so you look like a slob but without the smell. Add in some other rando junk by unboxing some stuff you get in your car and tossing the packaging in the back seat or in the footwells.
    Professional thieves have a profile they're looking for and "hiding stuff" doesn't throw that off much. A very clean car indicates discipline and that's associated with having money. Being a total slob, however, does throw off the profile. This won't work against drug addicts since they're either entirely random or they hit every car in the line. Overall rule: Poor people don't generally get robbed or broken into, they've got nothing worth stealing. Try to look poor. You don't need a beater, just an older car in good condition but not perfect collectors condition. Allow a bit of imperfection. People without a lot of money tend to have a cheap car that they take pretty good care of within their means, which kinda provides the sweet spot here, just examine vehicles in your area closely. Especially at a place like a Walmart parking lot. You don't want something that's going to get you pulled over all the time but you also don't something that looks like you have stuff worth stealing either. Add a tint and "trash" and you'll find this works well. If you look like the average Walmart car, peer through the windows and the main thing you see is "trash" you've got it nailed down. [edit] This may work these days with higher end cars too because of the junkie joy-riding habit. If the car's trashed in a way that looks like it was stolen as a mobile crash-pad for shooting up, no one's gonna rob it. [end edit]
    Your best sources of information on the goings-on criminally in your area are children, ladies of the night and drug dealers. In that order too. The last two can be found at bars in most cases. Dealers who are three sheets to the wind are reasonably easy to deal with if you can pump up their ego and buy them some drinks. Ladies of the night are professionals, you'll pay them for information and should be cautious in doing so. Drinks make them more honest but can also bring out some emotional stuff you don't really want to deal with. You'll still fork over cash too, they're businesswomen to the end. Be sure to chat up the bartenders too. A couple visits with good tips (but not too good) and they're great sources of information too because they interact with the ladies and the dealers A LOT.
    Cops are, in my experience, worthless on this front unless what you really want to know is what cops don't know or where they don't go. Really, most won't tell you anything anyway and will become suspicious if you ask them questions like this.
    Finally, the kids absorb information like you wouldn't believe and people tend to talk in front of them. They also have a very limited filter in what they'll tell you if you approach them correctly. I had a neighborhood kid tell me about a murder where the body hadn't even been removed yet, and do so down to nitty gritty details. Damned if two years later that wasn't exactly the case the DA was laying out. Took the cops a bit over a year to figure out what a seven year old knew less than 30 minutes after the fact.
    Food helps with kids in a bad neighborhood. They're usually not well fed. The approach is harder and I wouldn't try this unless you frequent the area, in which case they've probably noticed you before anyway. Keep in mind, yes people talk in front of kids but that's what you're doing too by talking to them. Stand out too much and they'll tell other people about you because, again, no filter. You don't want this to become the way you get known in an area.

    Those 4Patriots, Wise and other brands “emergency food supplies” food are almost inedible! Yes items like the pancake mix is fine and good… but how bad does it have to be to F up pancake mix!? But the other meal items some are just okay while the others aren’t very good to begin with… and they are “always” in family serving sizes. So you can’t really make a single serving of any of it or serving for just 2! All cooking directions are for the whole family size pack. And family size is serving for 4 not 5 not 3. It’s just a waste of money in my opinion! Yes a 72hr emergency food kit will allow you to eat for 3 days “in an EMERGENCY situation” but it WON’T be enjoyable or even good…!
    Any food stocks that you buy and store, you NEED to “prepare and eat” them, try them before sinking $100’s or $1000’s into bulk supplies of them!! There are many, many companies out there that sell the freeze dried meals (individual and 2 servings size packs) and foods in #10 cans. Try different meals, different brands, and different food products before buying bulk supplies of any one! I promise you that if you do this, by the time your done trying all the different ones or even a variety of different ones you will be so GLAD that you DID!

    I might be doing it wrong but I took a month and wrote down each day what I made for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. This list is what I used to fill the extended pantry plus other things like spam and such. As long as there is electricity or gas, natural gas, or propane for the generator we would eat the same way we eat now for at least a year. If you have a well have a hand pump put on that well. This will give you water that you don't have to use the generator to get. Even bad water can be used to flush a toilet. I hate to see this gun is a good fit for most people. I have never met this "most people" lol. I know men who are over 6 foot that a glock has to big a grip for their hand but know women the grip is perfect. Me, I have very small hands. I can't even wrap my hand around a Glock lol.

    Instead of stopping the topic and answering questions maybe try to make the last 10-15 minutes to answer questions might be easier

    I think it’s funny about the toilet paper. However I bought 800 cases of toilet paper ones however I own 1300 off houses. So in my head when there’s only a couple cases at my house even though I’m not the toilet business anymore it makes me nervous. So I usually have anywhere from 5 to 7 cases of toilet paper that’s just me every since I’ve sold that total business. And so when everybody was scrambling for toilet paper I had plenty and didn’t have to go out and fight for toilet paper. I will say that my pastor that I have now he just thinks everything is given to you from the Lord. But I’ll tell you up there was three daughters and his wife and all the sudden they realize they were down to one roll of toilet paper. So they had to go run and find toilet paper and a dollar roll

    Whenever I used to hear a Democrat say Trump was “not my President”, I would think…how immature and ridiculous they sound. So when I hear you say Biden is not some people’s president, I cringe with embarrassment. We have got to class up our Republican Party…rise above the immature comments and pettiness! I’m embarrassed for our country as a WHOLE….both sides of the fence need to grow up!

    I use to watch sensible preppers videos all the time. But not any more as the guy that’s on the these videos with him has the most obvious common sense commentary. Really feel like he provides nothing more for the channel besides making the video far too long. Therefore I’m out. Got to much to do in the day. Which is funny because I’ve put off writing this comment for a year. Guess I had some time.
